230 South Law Street Aberdeen, Maryland, 21001 Phone (410)272-1387 Fax (410)272-1959 [email protected]May 16, 2020, Dear SJA Families, I would like to request the help of the SJA community. The Ogbe family has suffered a devastating fire this week. Thankfully, no one was hurt but they are now displaced due to extensive damage to their home and loss of most of their belongings. They have daughters in 2 nd and 4 th grade and a son entering Kindergarten. We are asking that you donate gift cards for grocery stores, restaurants, and clothing (Target, Walmart, Amazon) to support the family. You may drop off your donations at the school office, from 9AM until 4PM on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week. (Please remember that masks and social distancing are required.) We are always amazed by the support provided by the St. Joan of Arc School community for those in need. Contracts are due to be submitted in School Admin by May 27 th . If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Maid [email protected]or myself. Payment plans may be set up in FACTS to begin in June for up to 12 payments, in July up to 11 payments, or in August, up to 10 payments. Please submit your contract as soon as possible so that we can begin to order materials for next year. We anticipate being fully prepared for the 2020-21 school year and look forward to welcoming students back into St. Joan of Arc School on August 31 st . Due to the safety of our campers and employees, and the stringent health restrictions at this time placed on camps for COVID-19 we are cancelling summer camps this year. We will be fully refunding all deposits by check, which you will be receiving in the mail. (If you registered your child for Camp Invention, please contact them to cancel and for your full refund.) I would like to share some exciting news regarding next year’s schedule. We will be going to a nine period schedule. Each period will be 45 minutes and the school day will run from 8AM-3:05PM.This extra period in the school day will allow SJA to once again offer two PE classes per week, a new STEM/Robotics class each week, and a new Study Skills class for middle school. We are constantly striving to improve the excellent education offered at St. Joan of Arc School. We have also received partial funding for completing roof repairs through the MSDE Non-Public Schools Aging Grant and for replacing/upgrading the security doors from the MSDE Non-Public Schools Safety and Security Grant. These repairs will begin immediately after the close of this year on June 13 th . Please post and share this PreK video to your Facebook account and send to anyone who may be looking for quality PreK instruction next year. I am attaching the Catholic Discount Form for you to forward to your parish for completion. Once we receive this by email, the discount will be applied to your FACTS account. SJA families should email the form for signature to the parish office [email protected] Returning students will also receive a $375 adjustment to FACTS as remediation. Thank you to those generous families who have donated their remediation back to those in need. Also attached are flyers for uniform purchase (Flynn & O’Hara) and a coupon for the required Buck shoes (grades 2-8). The uniform guidelines are attached. It is important that every family completes payments on their FACTS account for this year. Please check to see if you had paid all the incidental expenses, such as field trips. Please contact Mrs. Sandy Jacob if there is a question regarding your account. [email protected] We are making arrangements for the end of this school year. We will have scheduled times for parents and students to come by and pick up materials during the first two weeks of June. Also, we intend to have the calendar and handbook available at that time also. Finally we are arranging the 8th grade graduation celebration for June 4th at 4PM. Although this year’s graduation may be different depending upon the restrictions in place at the time, we expect to honor our graduates in the best way possible. We are missing each and every one of you and praying for every family! Peace and all good, Mrs. Bahr
