We are called to “take stock”, if you will, of what we have done this past year and how can we make the coming year a better one. At this time, especially, we are called to rate our past performance and to see where we need improvement so that we can meet the Prince of Peace with peaceful hearts and good will towards all. Unfortunately, we seem to have fallen in that these past few months and perhaps years. We have, for the most part, centered on ourselves and the center of all things and judge everyone and everything by our wants and desires. Rather than working together we have fallen into factions and the idea of “one nation, under God” seems to have given way to the idea that “I know what we really want and can’t understand why t he rest of “them” can’t see it. I really don’t want to focus in on our political difficulties but they seem to be obstacles in our lives for what we should truly be looking at and for. This Advent season as we prepare ourselves for the birth of the King of Nations let us put aside our own “issues” and focus in on the Common good. Let us begin to change first in ourselves and by changing ourselves, bring about change in others. Let our example be a guiding light to all those we meet. As we prepare for Christmas, doing all the many things that need to be done, let us pause occasionally to reflect on what the Will of God is for us and try to bring out actions and thoughts closer to that goal. Let us find ourselves at the end of Advent able to stand with the angels and proclaim, Peace on Earth and Good Will to All! Have a Blessed and Peaceful Advent. I would like to thank the Knights of Columbus for putting up our outdoor Nativity on Saturday and the Altar Rosary for putting up the wreaths. Thank you to the ladies who served them breakfast and lunch. Readings for this Week, Second Sunday of Advent FIRST READING: ISAIAH 11:1-10 - In this beautiful passage, a messianic prophecy, Isaiah exults in the coming of the Lord, who will bring justice and peace for all. Please join us for a peaceful evening away from the busyness of the day to be with Our Lord.
MEN OF ST. JAMES
The “Men of St. James” come together for prayer and discussion to make what the Pope is calling for a reality here at St. James Church. It is also a place to re-kindle the fire that may have grown dim or just to meet other men who are also trying to be faithful Catholic men. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Saturday’s at 7:00AM in the Carriage House. Come. “Open the door.” They called the church together and reported what God had done with them and how he had opened the door of faith..." (Acts 14:27)

ST. SEBASTIAN’S TERRACE AND COLUMBARIUM
197 Purchased - 255 Niches Still Available
We have celebrated Mass at the Altar of our Terrace and Columbarium many times. There are 90 niches engraved and interred. The price of a niche is $2,500, which gives you the right to inter the cremains of two people. If you have been thinking of purchasing a niche, and would like to schedule an appointment, please call Mrs. Maureen Larkin at 845-225-2079 on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
For those of you not familiar with a Columbarium, it is a Latin word that describes a collection of niches to house urns containing cremated human remains. Usually inscribed with the person’s name and dates of birth and death, columbaria are constructed to serve as permanent resting places for our loved ones in a ‘churchyard’ or landscaped terrace. We pray that the Lord who has blessed this project, become a final resting place for many of our loved ones.
National Night Prayer for Life
Please join us in praying a rosary for life, religious
freedom and family on Thursday, December 8th,
the feast of the Immaculate Conception. We will
pray the rosary, along with the Respect Life Group,
immediately following the 7:30pm Mass.
Respect Life Meeting
The Church is called to proclaim the gift of life, to
serve life and to promote the culture of life. Life in
abundance must be the heart of the new
evangelization. Join the Respect Life Group every
first Monday of each month at 7:30 for Mass and
Novena. The meeting will follow in the Carriage
House. Fr. Adolphus will facilitate the meeting.

Letter from Confirmation Candidates to Msgr. Marchitelli
Each Confirmation Candidate was asked to write a personal letter indicating their desire to be confirmed. Please pray for these young people as they prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. My name is Eric Brandt and I’m 13 years old and in the 8th grade in George Fisher Middle School. Last year I achieved honor twice. I live with my mother, two older brothers and younger sister. I’m of Italian and German heritage and participate in Italian religious events that my grandfather holds at his home.
Being Catholic is important to me because it gave me my faith. It lets me know other than my parents someone else loves and cares about me. It teaches me how to be kind and helpful to others. My grandmother is a person who has given me the example of being a good Catholic. She attends mass every Sunday despite her handicap which makes it difficult for her to walk. She always thinks about someone else before herself. I find it very easy to talk to my grandmother about life. She is loving and caring and knows how to forgive. My uncle was killed in a car accident while his friend was driving and he survived. My grandmother never placed blame on him as she felt it was an accident and no one was to blame. Her kind heart makes her a good Catholic. Jesus asks us to love our neighbor and forgive; my grandma does that.
I do have one question about my faith. I am afraid of death and I still don’t understand how my soul will go to Heaven. How will I know that I’m really going? Maybe the fear of it has me confused or questioning what really happens when we die. I believe in what we have been taught but I’m still wondering how it all happens.
I promise to attend mass regularly before I make my Confirmation. I will participate during mass and listen to what the priest is saying carefully and see if I’m able to follow what I learned throughout the day.
I look forward to the upcoming months in preparation for my Confirmation. I feel I’m ready to receive my Confirmation and I feel as I’m growing physically it is time for me to grow with my faith. I feel I’m mature enough to receive this sacrament. I am ready to receive the Holy Spirit and have it guide me through my life. With my Confirmation I am part of the Catholic Community. This day is very important to me. It will be part of something bigger than me.
