ST. GEORGE “CARE COMMITTEE” ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MEMBERS
What a wonderful way to be involved in our St. George community while helping others!
The next Care Committee meeting is to be announced. For more information or if you know of a need the Committee could meet,
Please contact Presvytera Lisa (947-4709)
Dear Fellow Members of the St. George Family,
As we continue to celebrate the Resurrection of Our Lord, it is a pleasure
to take a moment and reflect on all of the wonderful services that we
shared at Saint George. It is always a blessing to be able to gather together
with Our Family in Christ. Thank You to All who helped in action,
financial support and in spirit.
Spring has arrived and with it comes the opportunity to help out with
spring cleaning around the church. If you are interested and able, please
contact Kathy Fitzpatrick to help our Sunday School children make the
outside of our church look beautiful.
As you do your own spring cleaning at home please save items to donate
to our yard sale this summer. Summer is always a “financially lean” time
of year for Saint George. The yard sale helps us to raise some much
needed funds in order to keep our church running.
Welcome back to our snowbirds who are returning to us for the summer.
Please pack a little sunshine to share with us and enjoy safe travels.
With joyous hearts let us always keep in mind the Resurrection of Our
Lord and the sacrifice He made for us. Xristos Anesti!

We Give Thanks
To everyone who participated in and contributed towards the Palm Sunday Luncheon! In particular,
special thanks to James Markos, Jr., and Maine Shellfish Company, and to George and Kim Brountas of
Captain Nick's Restaurant for once again generously providing the delicious fish for the meal. Thanks also
to Sherri Cox for her great management of the kitchen and to all the St. George young people for serving. It
was a lovely event!
Holy Week and Pascha went beautifully! Special thanks to Fr. Adam and the altar boys for their faithful-
ness and endurance; to Lee Speronis and the Parish Council for their organization; to chanters John
Mihalopoulos, Kyriacos Markides, Catherine and Marina Smitherman, Presvytera Lisa, and the whole
choir, who did exceedingly well - (But we did miss you, Lambro!); To Cathy Speronis, Lucia
Smitherman, Luke Flanzala and assistants for arranging all the beautiful flowers that filled the church; To
Maria Flanzala and Karen Kelley for sewing the beautiful, new Kouvouklion covers. God bless you! To
the Holy Friday Myrrhbearers (Rose Petal Girls) Mary Moody, Elena Speronis, Lucia Smitherman, and
our little visitor, Sabrina, and to their organizers Kathy Fitzpatrick and Callie Cox. And to everyone
who offered the Red Eggs to be blessed and contributed food towards the Resurrection Celebration! (In
particular, to Michael Kelley and his farm animals!) Christ is Risen!
Last but not least, to the Gospel Readers at the Sunday morning Agape Vespers: The Gospel was
proclaimed in Greek by Fr. Adam, in Russian by Elizabeth Markowsky, in Ukrainian by Nina
Tyutyunnyk, in Portuguese by Alex Tyutyunnyk, in German by Ari Dimoulas, in French by Catherine
Smitherman, in Spanish by Joel Smitherman, in English by Ivan Flanzala, and in
Latin by Presvytera Lisa. It was a blessing! Truly He is Risen!
To Kyvele St. Peter for kollyva for her husband, Sheldon's, 40-Day memorial.
To Prosforo bakers Marina Smitherman, Maria Flanzala, and Presvytera Lisa.
To the Brick Oven Bakery on Hancock Street in Bangor for contributing the rolls
on behalf of St. George Church to the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen on April 20th.

Summer is on it’s way! As I write this we are having a beautiful, sunny day here in Bangor. We’ll enjoy it as
we prepare for some more rain in the coming days - I like to think of it as God’s way of watering the plants.
May He also bless us with some sun and warmer temperatures so that we may enjoy all of the beauty of His
creations.
Congratulations to all of the 2011 Graduates including Lori Panakis and Scottie Mitchell!
Congratulations to Father Adam! Father Adam will be celebrating the 10th year of his Ordination to the
Priesthood by his Eminence Metropolitan Methodios on the feast day of Sts. Constantine & Helen, May 21st.
News Needed! I’m always looking for news to put in Ta Nea. Anything that you would like to share with the
St. George Family would be greatly appreciated - anything at all! Even just a shout-out or weather reports
from wherever you are - we’re interested!
Well, Stephen Speronis has wrapped up his AAU basketball so no travelling for a while - phew! I’m
relieved. Especially with the price of gas lately! He’ll be heading to Bangor High School this coming fall.
Elena will be going to middle school. They grow up so fast!
I am going to be cooking like crazy this summer, preparing for Food Network and Masterchef auditions this
fall in MA. I’ll try to keep my blog updated. You can follow me at www.thedowneastdish.blogspot.com.
Safe travels to all this summer! Looking forward to the Festival!!
TA NEA (The News) By Cathy Speronis 118 Poplar Street Bangor, ME 04401 (942-7822)

Coffee Hour Sponsor
On May 1st the Coffee Hour was
sponsored by Kyvele St. Peter in
loving memory of her husband,
Sheldon St. Peter.
Thank you.
A Notice to Parents
We all want our St. George children to be safe. Please
keep aware of where your children are, especially
after Liturgy during Coffee Hour. Children should be
supervised and should not be in the church sanctuary,
church office, or in the upstairs meeting room by
themselves.
Thanks for being vigilant in this regard!
St. George Bottle Redemption Site
St. George Church has a redemption “account” at the
Bottle Redemption on Broadway in Bangor across
from the Irving Station and next to Tri-City Pizza.
Just drop bottles off there - 7 days a week (they do not
need to be counted) and make sure to specify that they
are for the “St. George Church Account.”
Every little bottle adds up!

Recent Deaths
Parishioner Mihail A. "Mike" Margaronis passed away peacefully on April 21st after a
valiant struggle with cancer. He was 60 years old. Mike loved life, loved his Greek
heritage, and loved people. He and his ebullient spirit will be greatly missed. Our
prayers go out for the comfort of his family and friends.
Past parishioner Anastasia Predaris passed away in Florida on April 10th. Her niece,
Paula Page, writes that she was "my mother's sister, and the last one of the family. She
was 84 years old." Our sincere sympathy goes out to Paula and Brian, Dianna Christakos,
Georgia Paul, and to all who knew and loved her.
May their memories be eternal
