cash which was used to send 13 cribs, mattresses and sheets to Catholic Social Services courtesy of St. Ephrem

you for always being so generous!
This & That (Fr. S. Katziner)
“Becoming a Child of God” (**corrected from last week**)
Our hearts should always be asking, “What more, Lord? What do you want of me? What is still wanting? Show me anything that is preventing your love having full scope in me. Show me. Help me to hear the answer
to the question: 'what still’?”… What our Lord asks, what he realized was so bitterly
hard for the human heart, was “conversion”: that accepting to turn right around, to be uncoiled from
the self-possession, self-centeredness, and self-orientation that is our native condition, to become
God-possessed, God-centered, God-directed. It is what he means by becoming a little one, a child, who alone is capable of receiving the kingdom, of knowing the mysteries of the kingdom. This re-making is God’s
exclusive work. ~Sister Ruth Borrows, O.C.D.,

This & That (Fr. S. Katziner)
A Medieval Legend
There is a medieval legend about what happened after
Jesus ascended into heaven. The story goes that the angel
Gabriel and Jesus looked back down at the earth and
noticed that it was all in darkness, except in one place, Jerusalem. In that city there were 12 lights burning.
Gabriel asked why that was so. Jesus responded, “They are the 11 apostles and Mary, and they are to spread my
message to the ends of the earth.”
Gabriel caught his breath and asked, “Lord, suppose your
plan doesn’t work?” Jesus responded, “I have no other plan.”

This & That (Fr. S. Katziner)
The quotes below are some highlights from The Joy of the Gospel– as Apostolic Exhortation, published
by Pope Francis in 2013.
“The Earth is our Common Home” “We love this magnificent planet on which God has put us, and we love the human family which dwells here, with all its tragedies and struggles, its hopes and aspirations, its strengths and weaknesses. The
earth is our common home and all of us are brothers and sisters.” #183
“The Most Defenseless and Innocent Among Us” “Among the vulnerable for whom the Church wishes to care with particular loves and concern are unborn children, the most defenseless and innocent among us. Nowadays efforts are made to deny them their human dignity and to do with them whatever one
pleases, taking their lives and passing laws preventing anyone from standing in the way of this. A human being is always sacred and inviolable, in any situation and at every stage of development.
Human beings are ends in themselves and never a means of resolving other problems.”
“Precisely because [Church teaching on abortion] involves the consistency of our message about the value of the human person, the Church cannot be expected to change her position on this question.
I want to be completely honest in this regard. This is not something subject to alleged reforms or
‘modernizations’. It is not ‘progressive’ to try to resolve problems by eliminating a human life.”
#213-14
“Every Person Deserves Our Love” “Every human being is the object of God’s infinite
tenderness, and he himself is present in their lives. Jesus offered his precious blood on the cross for that person. Appearances notwithstanding, every person
is immensely holy and deserves our love. Consequently, if I can help at least one person have a
better life, that already justifies the offering of my life… . We achieve fulfillment when we break down
walls and our hearts is filled with the faces and names!” #271
“Be Guided by the Holy Spirit” “There is no greater freedom than that of allowing oneself to be guided by the Holy Spirit, renouncing
the attempt to plan and control everything to the last detail, and instead letting him enlighten, guide and
direct us, leading us wherever he wills. The Holy Spirit knows well what is needed in every time and
place. This is what it means to be mysteriously fruitful!” #280
