Our Mission Statement
As committed Christians of the Roman Catholic Church in Richmond, Indiana, we are a com-
munity, centered in Christ, rooted in the Eucharistic communion, journeying together in our call
to be holy, constantly discerning the charisms of the Spirit,
making one another disciples of Christ and seeking God’s kingdom
in service, stewardship and charity.
“It will do us good to take the Gospel of Matthew and read the beatitudes -- perhaps a few more times during the week -- to understand this road so beautiful, so sure of the happiness that the Lord offers us. The beatitudes are ‘a Christian’s identity card’ which reveal the “the face of Jesus himself.”

Last Friday, we met for the first time as Evangelization commis-sion. I am very pleased with this new group of our parishioners who show a huge interest in advancing our mission of evangeli-zation in our parish. As a group we are reading a book written by Fr. James Mallon: Divine Renovation: Bringing your parish from maintenance to mission. I read this book a couple of years ago. Fr. Mallon talks about what happened to his parish when he sphere headed initiatives for intentional evangelization.
He begins with an important question: What is our mission? Our mission begins with Christ’s great commission. The great com-mission as recorded in Mt. 29:19 has four verbs: to go, to make, to baptize or to teach. He explains then that the hinge verbs of all these four verbs is “make” - that is make disciples (matheteusate). Over the last 50 years, we have witnessed the most accelerated social change. Culture greatly supported our faith and what we believed. Everything was normal. Very rarely people opposed the Catholic faith, if they did they either joined another church or they were not Catholics. Making disciples was not really part of the efforts. Fr. Mallon says, “As long as we bap-tized and taught in our schools, we pumped out good “practicing Catholics. In a sense, we got away with not making disciples, be-cause the culture propped it all up.” He also points out that a large number of believing Catholics carry a huge burden of chil-dren/grandchildren who have abandoned “the faith.” We live in a time our culture does not support our faith.
Whether we like it or not, we have an important rediscovery - “make disciples.” The heart of evangelization is a person whose name is Jesus! Being a disciple simply means that we know more about Jesus, believe in each and every word he spoke, love him and to be in love with him. Knowing and loving Jesus brings joy into our hearts. Making visible that joy is evangelization. That joy made Mary rush to the hill country to see Elizabeth, her joy was truly the joy of our salvation - not her salvation! We exist to evangelize!
On Monday, February 24th, I will be presenting on Evangeliza-tion at Holy Family during the Bible study. On May 1st and 2nd, we will have with us one of our nation’s greatest pioneers of the new evangelization, Dr. Ralph Martin. Please do not miss this opportunity to deepen your faith. Please keep in your prayers all the members of the Evangelization commission of our parish.
In love of Christ and his holy Church, Fr. Sengole T. Gnanaraj

I was born in Connersville, Indiana where I attended St. Gabriel School, grades 1-8. It is at St. Gabriel that I started singing when I was still in grade school. I graduated from Marian College with a B.A. in Music Education, go-ing on to teach Junior and Senior High Choir around the Frankfort, Indiana area. I
sang in the Indianapolis Symphony Choir and also played bass violin with the Indianapolis Philharmon-ic Orchestra. I returned to Connersville in 1976 and sang as a cantor and played string bass in the Folk Group for many years. I was music director at St. Gabriel for a number of years. I have participated in Parish Councils, Deanery Councils and Archdioce-san Councils in the past. I have recently retired and am looking forward to helping in any way that I can to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ wherever the Spirit leads.

We understand your concerns regarding Mass intentions to
be said on a particular day to honor your loved one, but we
do encounter problems to accommodate everybody. As
you know, one Mass for the people of the parish is cele-
brated each weekend. Please know that Masses are said
through the week whether or not you attend the Mass.
Each Mass is just as important as a weekend Mass.
