~PASTOR’S NOTES~

I recently came across this quote from St. John Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests: "There is no doubt

about it: a person who loves pleasure, who seeks com-fort, who flies from anything that might spell suffering, who is over-anxious, who complains, who blames, and who becomes impatient at the least little thing which does not go his way - a person like that is a Christian on-ly in name; he is only a dishonor to his religion, for Jesus Christ has said so: 'Anyone who wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross every day of his life, and follow Me.'" Unfortunately in our culture the cross is something to be avoided at all costs. Contraception is used to avoid liv-ing a chaste life before marriage so one may indulge in selfish hedonism. Abortion is justified as a means to do away with the inconvenience of an unexpected pregnan-cy so a person can fulfill their own selfish personal goals. We’ve seen in the spectacle of the Supreme Court nomi-nation process the radical and demonic actions of those siding with the Democratic Party to keep the horror of abortion legal at all costs. Our Lord tells us that with Him our cross is easy and our burden is light. Even so, many abhor the idea of having

to suffer at all at any time. How many sick and elderly are abused and even killed or left to die under the guise of compassion when it is really because it is a burden—a cross—caregivers, insurance companies, etc., no longer wish to be bothered with? Even religions that profess a belief in Christ have removed His body from the cross and preach a gospel of prosperity. They will give from their abundance rather than trusting in God and giving from their sustenance as we see in the Gospel of the widow’s mite. How many great saints like Mother Theresa, St. Francis, Mother Cabrini, etc., began with nothing but true faith while trusting in God to help them do great things for Him. Only when we die to ourselves can we truly live for our Lord Jesus Christ. In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Frank Samoylo
