First Sunday of Advent “Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.” (Psalm 122) Retirement Fund for Religious Collection Next Weekend In the United States today, there are more than 33,000 sen- ior Catholic religious sisters, brothers, and order priests. These reli- gious worked tirelessly in Catholic schools, hospitals, and agencies, usually for little or no pay. As a result, many religious communities lack adequate savings for retirement and eldercare. For more infor- mation please read the insert in today’s church paper or visit www.retiredreligious.org. Next weekend a special collection will be taken up in all Catholic parishes of our country allowing us the opportunity to support the Retire- ment Fund for Religious which helps provide prescription medications, nursing care, and more. Envelopes for this collection may be found in the pew racks of the church and can be returned next weekend with your contribution. Please give to those who made a positive difference in so many lives. Thank you for your continued support and prayers for our senior Catholic religious sisters, brothers, and order priests. Sorting and Packing Toys On Monday, December 2nd, we will be sorting and packing toys for St. Leo’s Christmas Party. Please join us at 10:00 am in the Social Area to work on this fun project. All are welcome!! Toys Needed-Due This Weekend St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen in Detroit is again looking for toys for the Children’s Christmas Party they host at the beginning of December. GOSPEL MEDITATION -
ENCOURAGE DEEPER
UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE
1st Sunday of Advent—December 1, 2019 “I’m never getting enough rest! How can I
possibly be ‘asleep’?” In a world of jam-packed
schedules and high anxiety levels, physical rest may
be hard to come by. Yet relentless pursuit of our to-
do lists and social calendars may keep our minds off
of the things that really matter. Jesus knows all too
well a pattern of busy, harried ignorance. “In those
days before the flood, they were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage … they did not
know until the flood came and carried them all away
… two men will be out in the field … two women will
be grinding at the mill; one will be taken, and one
will be left.” When it comes to the spiritual life, we
can be at work or at relaxation and still be spiritually
asleep.
Each year, we are called back to remember
the essential things. God comes to save His people.
He becomes flesh to dwell among us. Supernatural
light pierces the world’s darkness and our own. Ad-
vent wakes us up. “Stay awake! For you do not
know on which day your Lord will come.” Every Ad-
vent, we prepare to celebrate Christ’s first coming at
Christmas, and we anticipate his second coming at
the end of time.
“At an hour you do not expect, the Son of
Man will come.” There’s another hour, too, both
known and unknown. It’s the present moment.
Whether it’s a lazy Saturday morning or a major
business proposal, whether it’s attending a kinder-
garten play or an elderly relative’s bedside, at every
moment the Lord wants to enter into our hearts. This
Advent, let’s pray for the grace to stay alert. Christ
is coming soon. LPi

Parish Staff
To the Parish Family of St. Colette: It is our parish policy that all registered members of St. Colette Parish use their contribution envelopes each
week when they attend Mass, as we do need your financial support. If you are going through financial difficul-
ties, please put your empty envelope in the basket so we know you are practicing your faith as a parishioner at St. Co-
lette. If we do not receive envelopes in a calendar year, you will be contacted by the Parish Office to confirm if you are
still worshipping here.
Pray for the Sick of our Parish The names included in the Sick List should be parishioners, their relatives
and friends. If you would like to add a name, please contact the parish office. Every 4-6 months the prayer list will be updated.
