Baptisms: Celebrated on the first Sunday of the month at 12:30 or 3:00pm. Parents should call the rectory at least four weeks in advance, and must attend instructions, which are held on the third Thursday of the month. Church Law requires that only Catholics in good standing are eligible to be Godparents. No Baptisms will be scheduled during Lent. Annointing of the Sick: We offer this sacrament to those who are seriously ill, at home or in the hospital. We

urge you to contact the office before someone goes to the hospital for an operation. (A priest may not be available later). Ministry of the Sick: Holy Communion will be brought to the sick, upon request. The bedridden or chronically ill

can be placed on the “Eucharistic Ministers” visitation schedule. Wedding: Engaged couples must make arrangements in person, at the office at least six months in advance.

person. Registration forms are available at the entrances to the Churches. Also, please notify the office if your address has changed or if you would like to be added to the weekly envelope system.

Keefe. Rectory & Office Renovation Project – Please support the rectory and parish office upgrading and renovation project. One of the essential facilities for the pastoral care of our church is the rectory and parish office. Our rectory at the Buchanan location, sadly, is urgently in desperate need of repair. We need to upgrade all electrical wires in order to meet the current building code. We also need to replace all old plumbing works and install new cable and telephone lines. We have a few parishioners who have volunteered their time and resources to begin the project. Fr. George is seeking donations to be able to start the repair of the rectory and office. It would be a great help if parishioners could sponsor certain items or memorialize certain projects. If you contribute $1,000.00 or more your name will be inscribed on a plaque and placed in our new offices. All donation amounts are welcomed and appreciated, large or small. If you have any suggestions for fundraising events or organizations or businesses that might like to help with this project, please speak to Fr. George. THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: 1 Kings 19:16b, 19-21 Elijah the prophet followed God's instruction to appoint a man named Elisha as his successor. Elijah threw his cloak over Elisha, who went and said good-bye to his family, then followed Elijah without question. Second Reading: Galatians 5:1, 13-18 Paul reminds us that people were freed from the old law through Christ. But he makes it clear that this freedom does not mean giving in to evil desires. Instead, we must be guided by the Spirit and most importantly love our neighbor as ourselves. Gospel: Luke 9:51-62 Jesus set out for Jerusalem, and passed through a town where he was not welcomed. He reprimanded his disciples for desiring vengeance against the town. One man wanted to follow Jesus when he had finished his duties at home. Jesus expressed that a man who begins a task, but constantly looks back is unfit for the reign of God.

DECIMO TERCER DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO “Te seguiré a dondequiera que vayas”, no necesariamente quiere decir que ese “dondequiera” se conocerá. A otro, que Jesús invita personalmente y que se había ofrecido a seguirle, parece negarle cruelmente un razonable deseo familiar. ¡Ni pensar en nuestros propios compromisos y excusas! Pero aun antes de desafiar a los discípulos a seguirlo sin otros compromisos ni demoras, Jesús prohíbe juzgar a los que deciden no hacerlo. Jesús “se volvió hacia los discípulos y los reprendió”; les gruñe a esos discípulos que querían “bajar fuego del cielo para acabar con ellos”. Elías hizo bajar fuego del cielo tres veces para consumir el sacrificio y a sus adversarios. Para Jesús el rechazo de los ajenos es menos importante que la violencia vengativa de los discípulos. Los discípulos parecen haber aceptado Jesús, pero claramente rechazan las consecuencias prácticas de aceptar, sin otros compromisos, el Evangelio de amor de Jesús, esto es, la compasión que no es justiciera y la misericordia inflexible aun para aquellos que rechazan a Jesús. El Año Jubilar de la Misericordia nos recuerda lo que Pablo les recuerda a los gálatas; que los verdaderos discípulos han de abandonar la violencia, que no se “muerden y devoran mutuamente”, sino “háganse servidores los unos de los otros por amor”, “porque toda la ley se resume en un solo precepto: Amarás al prójimo como a ti mismo”.
