This year we will once again be using the new Growing Success Report and this will give parents an early opportunity to review the progress level of your child. This first report will be a checklist and the Parent Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 12, from 5pm to 8:30pm and on Friday, November 13 from 8:30am to 11:15pm. This will be a great opportunity to partner with your child’s teacher in determining ‘Next Steps”. Finally this month we celebrate the Virtue of Peace. We recall all those men and women who served us at the cost of pain, and death. Many we knew, many remain known only to you. Help us to be worthy of their sacrifice and of their example of courage, loyalty, steadfastness, and perseverance. Let us continue to teach our students, your children, to never forget those who have gone before, whose names are etched on our cenotaphs across Canada. Principal’s Message
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As we reach midterm, our students need to be asking themselves if they have
been striving for excellence in their daily lives. It is our responsibility as the
adult members of this vibrant community to ensure that we are helping them to
go beyond mediocrity. Let’s continue to be positive role models for our youth.
Thank you to those parents who volunteer in and around the school. We are
very grateful for the contributions our parent volunteers play in helping us to
address and achieve student achievement. You certainly are making St.
Cecilia’s a much safer, healthier, learning focused school. This commitment
solidifies the home and school bond that continues to thrive in our community,
especially during this special year when our Three Year Pastoral Plan focuses
on the special role of FAMILY in our schools.

Peace “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)
Prayer of Saint Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
On our trip to Whittamore's Farm, as an extension to our Science
unit, the students had the opportunity to see and discuss the
changes in seasons. The students explored the colder
temperatures, the changing trees, and the animals. It was a
wonderful opportunity for students to work together in small
groups to problem solve, communicate and listen to each other’s
opinions. It was a really fun day filled with meaningful learning
experiences!
Congratulations to our Cross Country Team!!
A Visit to Runnymede Senior Centre To Toronto Catholic District School board’s theme this year is
family. To recognize the importance of family, the Mrs.
Kowalenko's grade 7 class went to the Runnymede Healthcare
Centre to spend some time with our local residents. Students and
seniors worked patiently and collaboratively on a water colour
activity. Each resident was given a Thanksgiving card, which the
students had prepared themselves. Students look forward to our
next visit to spend time with our local community family!
Our Day at the City Cross Country Championship
It was a perfect day for the 2015-16 City Cross Country
Championship at Earl Bales Park. The weather was cold, but not
too cold, and we had dry conditions on the course. When they got
off of the bus, they were both nervous and excited. It wasn’t their
first time at City but they still got nervous each time. The all felt
like just not running, but they knew that they couldn’t let the
school down. Once the Grade 8 Boys’ race began, they started
warming up. Our A’s, B’s and C’s, just like Mr. Biagini taught us.
After that, they started getting loose. When there was five minutes
until the race, they just relaxed and tried not to think about it. Then
the call came for Grade 7 Boys and everyone wished us luck. All
eighty-eight of the best runners in the city lined up at the starting
line. Everyone was nervous, so there was a lot of edging forward.
No one wanted a bad start. Then the starter sounded the air horn
and everyone took off! Everyone was close at first but then a lead
pack started to break off from the rest. Leke and Quentin kept up a
good pace near the front of the middle pack while Jacob caught the
end of the lead pack. One of the favoured runners hurt his shin. As
Leke, Jacob and Quentin passed him they all showed good
sportsmanship and encouraged him. Then they slowly passed
runners during the rest of the 2500m race and they all pushed hard
at the end. Jacob sprinted and came very close to catching the 8th
place runner but ended up in 9th place. Quentin pushed hard and
passed 3 runners and placed 17th. Leke also sprinted and had a
strong finish of 14th. All of the runners were happy that the race
was finally over. Later, the greatest surprise of the day was when
Leke, Jacob and Quentin won the championship for Grade 7 Boys!
They were very happy and represented St. Cecilia with pride!
Congratulations to our Junior Boys who placed second overall! Go
Tigers!!

Project Snowman
We need your help, St. Cecilia
We are a group of Toronto Moms who want to make a
difference this winter to the Toronto students living at or
below the poverty line. This winter Ripple Clothes for
Kids wants to outfit 1000 Toronto area babies and
children with quality snowsuits. We want to help kids
enjoy their morning recess, rather than shivering and
counting the minutes until it’s over. We want new moms to
safely take their babies out to their doctor’s appointments
even on a cold January morning.
Here’s how you can pitch in: Beginning November 2nd- November 27th - Donate your
kids’ hand-me-down snowsuits
We ARE looking for winter jackets, snow pants and
one-piece snowsuits in excellent or very good
condition (no rips or stains) sizes newborn to 16
We CANNOT accept: boots, mittens, hats, other
children’s clothing or adult winter wear
Please wash donated items, bag them in clear
plastic bags and label the bag by size and gender
There is a bin located outside the music room to
place your snowsuit.
Our campaign isn’t glamorous or global, but it’s a way to
make a concrete difference in the lives of local children this
winter using items stuffed in our own closets and
basements.
Snowsuits will be distributed to our partner agencies
Humewood House, North York Women’s Shelter, Hope for
Children Fund (Catholic Children’s Aid Society), The
Redwood, Rosalie Hall, Dr. Roz’s Healing
Place, Nellie’s and Horizons for Youth, as well as students
