Come meet some faithful Catholics who love the Lord and would consider it a privilege to get to know you. Our parish will soon begin a set of sessions to share with others the truths of the Catholic faith and the fellowship of our church family. We invite you to learn what Catholics believe, in an open and welcoming environment. These sessions also are opportunities for you to ask those perplexing and difficult questions you may have about the Church. Sessions are always held on Sunday, 9-11 am. The first session is on August 30 in the parish conference room. Feel free to come to any session. Please give us a call if you have questions or would like further information at 957-7100 or email us at [email protected]. You also may wish to visit scschurch.com/rcia. Parish News No Greater Love Series to Begin: September 10 No Greater Love, a five-part series filmed on location in the Holy Land, will meet on Thursday evenings starting September 10, 6:45-8 pm, in the Melancon Center. The cost is $22 (includes full-length accompanying book). Call or email Mary Jeandron, 858-4464 or [email protected] to register. No Greater Love reveals Christ’s amazing love for us and features best-selling author Edward Sri guiding participants in this biblical pilgrimage through the last hours of Christ’s life. Every step of the way, biblical experts reveal how Old Testament prophecies, messianic expectations, biblical symbolism, and historical context shed light on the mystery of Christ’s suffering and death. These insights can help Catholics come to a deeper understanding and appreciation of God’s immeasurable and unconditional love and draw closer to Jesus. Bible Timeline to Begin: September 14 The Bible Timeline bible study program will begin meeting on Monday, September 14, 7-9 pm, in the Melancon Center St. John Paul II Room. Beginning in Genesis, this course takes participants through "The Story of Salvation” over 23 weeks. Classes meet for two hours, and there is assigned homework, but the effort is well WORTH IT! It is an excellent way to read through the Bible and deepen one’s relationship with GOD! Class size is limited to 10 so if interested please sign up soon. Cost: $40 for workbook. Register through email to [email protected]. SCS 100th Anniversary Committee Founded in 1921, St. Catherine of Siena soon will celebrate its centennial year! A committee is forming to plan and execute the observance of this milestone anniversary. If you are interested in serving on the St. Catherine of Siena 100th anniversary committee, please contact Fr. Tim, [email protected] or 835-9343. School of Religion 2020-21 Registration Registration for our 2020-2021 Parish School of Religion is open. We are working on a safe alternative for both programs for this upcoming school year. If you would like to be added to the email list about upcoming changes please register your youth. See scschurch.com/psr for information and forms; contact Meagan Barras with questions. Confirmation Registration Registration for High School Confirmation for the 2020-2021 school year is now open. Teens who are in their junior or senior year in high school are eligible to prepare for this Sacrament. Visit scschurch.com/confirmation for the registration packet, dates, and more information. For any questions or concerns, please contact Meagan Barras, [email protected] or 835-9343. Current Eucharistic Adoration Chapel Needs Following are the days and times when committed adorers or prayer partners are particularly needed for the St. Catherine of Siena Chapel of the Holy Innocents:
Adorers: Sunday—3 am.
Prayer Partners: Monday—1 pm; Friday—8 pm and 9 pm; and Saturday—3 pm and 7 pm.
Is your schedule for the fall such that one of these times now will work for you? Would your prayer group, card playing group, or tennis, golf, or other sports friends consider committing to an hour and taking turns spending time with our Eucharistic Lord? The willingness of dozens of committed adorers and prayer partners makes it possible for our chapel to be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you are interested in taking an hour in the chapel, please contact Mary Jeandron, [email protected] or 858-4464.
General Guidelines for SCS Mass Attendance
Wearing a mask is mandatory at all Masses and in the adoration chapel. • Every other pew in the Church is roped off. • Every household should sit six feet away from the other
household. • Be mindful of social distancing, and maintain six feet of
distance from others at all times. • The collection baskets will not be passed throughout the
Church. Two baskets will be placed at the foot of the sanctuary for anyone who wants to make an offering before Mass or during the offertory of Mass.
• The sign of peace may be expressed by means of a smile and/or a nod of the head. No physical sign of peace will be exchanged.
• When Mass is over, please do not gather in groups in the Narthex and continue to maintain social distancing.
Guidelines for Receiving Holy Communion
• Please bring hand sanitizer to use before receiving Communion.
• During Communion, please maintain social distancing in the line by spacing out six feet from the person in front of you.
• Communion will be distributed by means of the sacred Host only. There will be no distribution from the chalice.
• Out of consideration and concern for others, we ask everyone to receive Communion in the hand rather than on the tongue.
• When approaching the priest/minister for Communion, place your hand flat atop your other hand. The minister will place the Host on your hand and then let go of the Host to avoid any contact with your hand.

Above: Back to School! Teachers completed their faculty in-service. It was great to have them back on campus! Faculty members spent the day reviewing the new safety procedures to protect our students so that we can have a healthy year of learning. We are thrilled that our students have returned to campus! Right: One of two outdoor hand washing stations recently installed to help facilitate more hand washing after recess. This is just one of many things that have been done to help ensure our students’ safety. Below: The new faculty nursery at SCS has opened and is very lively! We are blessed to have so many teacher babies on campus!

Above: This year’s faculty picture looks a little different! Faculty and staff looked forward to “Meet the Teacher,” which took place this past week. Below: Thank you to the Ochsner Safe to Return to School Team for presenting to SCS school parents about opening school in the midst of a pandemic. Some families attended in person in church, but many joined via Livestream. After the initial presentation on Covid19, the Ochsner team of doctors answered medical questions. When the Ochsner representatives finished, the school administration fielded non-medical questions about school reopening. If you missed the presentation and would like to view it, please see https://youtu.be/QJf4-_UG058.

Creation of Archdiocesan Department of Catholic Education and Faith Formation In an effort to better serve the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond has created the department of Catholic education and faith formation. This new department will include Catholic schools, parish schools of religion, RCIA programs, evangelization, adult education, and catechist certification programs focused on a shared ministry of forming lifelong disciples. Dr. RaeNell Houston will serve as executive director and superintendent of Catholic schools and will be supported by deputy superintendents Dcn. Michael Whitehouse and Mrs. Martha Mundine, along with additional professional staff. By creating this department, it is hoped that duplication of efforts will be eliminated, enabling the Archdiocese to focus resources on Catholic education and religious education for all ages in both parishes and Catholic schools. Catholic Counseling Service Catholic Counseling Service (CCS) has resumed face-to-face counseling services, including safety precautions, and continues to offer telehealth services to individuals, couples, and families. Through the generosity of a donor, CCS has received a grant to increase the number of clients that it is able to assist with the cost of counseling, including providing pro bono services when necessary. Anyone interested in counseling can speak to the CCS intake coordinator by calling the CCS main office at 861-6245; please leave a message with name and preferred contact phone number if no one is able to answer at the time of the call.
