This Leadership Team consists of the Priest together with a group of parishioners chosen from the parish communities who will work to- gether for the development of the pastoral life of the parish and its people. The role of the Team is ‘to promote the Church’s mission to live and communicate the love and values of Christ in our world.’ It is probably worth borrowing from the Holy father’s Exhortation when talking about future directions for our parish. Rejoice and be Glad the Pope tells us. This is his opening paragraph: “REJOICE AND BE GLAD” (Mt 5:12), Jesus tells those persecuted or humiliated for his sake. The Lord asks everything of us, and in return he offers us true life, the happiness for which we were created. He wants us to be saints and not to settle for a bland and mediocre ex- istence. The call to holiness is present in various ways from the very first pages of the Bible. We see it expressed in the Lord’s words to Abraham: “Walk before me, and be blameless” (Gen 17:1). That is perhaps what a Pastoral leadership team can do for our par- ish and its people. Let’ us move forward into this new future. Sounds Alive at St Bernardine’s In a short while, Laurie Rogers will be upgrading our sound system at St Bernardine’s Church. It will include choir microphones in the music section, as well as a more settled hard-wired system from the lectern. New speakers will also be installed outside the Church for those crowded Liturgies that take place every now and then. The cost of this work will be in the vicinity of $11,000, and hopefully what will be done will be of benefit to the Community that gathers so faithfully each week. See how we go. GAUDETE ET EXSULTATE Pope Francis has issued a new Apostolic Exhortation called ON THE CALL TO HOLINESS IN TODAY’S WORLD. The opening line of the encyclical is simply “REJOICE AND BE GLAD”, not a bad way to start an opening address to the faithful people of God.
