Your Voice Urgently Needed to Stop Taxpayer-Funded Abortion on Demand “The House of Representatives voted to pass the most radical abortion bill ever. The so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, H.R. 3755, would: · Allow abortion on demand nationwide throughout EVERY STAGE of pregnancy. · BAN pro-life laws in every state and local government. Force Americans to support

abortions with their tax dollars. · Likely eliminate conscience protections for doctors. Of those present, all but one House Democrat voted for the bill and all House Republi-cans voted against. Archbishop Joseph Naumann, Committee on Pro-Life Activities Chair-man, called this bill ‘the most extreme proabortion bill our nation has ever seen.’” The USCCB Action Center brings two other threats to human life to our attention as well: funding of abortion through “Human Infrastructure,” and President Biden’s proposal to eliminate the Hyde Amendment. Collar Commentary- Fr. BurishPraised be Jesus Christ!

Holy Ghost, St. Bridget, and Notre DameOur Lady of the Falls Catholic Community

Q&AQ: What is happening with our parishes?A: On July 6, 2021, our parishes came under the care of one pastor and associate priest. Since then we have been working together to unite under one mission: to invite all people to en-counter Christ and inspire them to become saints. While our parish finances remain separate, we are collaborating with staff, office space, communications, and other gifts and talents. One of the ways our parishes are working together is by calling our-selves collectively Our Lady of the Falls Catholic Community.

Q: What is a “Catholic community”?A: A Catholic community is a community of distinct parishes working together and sharing resources to advance its mission.

Q: What is “Our Lady of the Falls”?A: Our Lady of the Falls refers to Mary, our spiritual mother and mother of the Church. Mary, under this title, is the special patroness to all of our parishes and schools. Mary is also Spouse of the Holy Spirit and Queen of all the saints. Our La-dy of the Falls is a title that honors both our spiritual Mother and our parish histories.

Q: Why are we going with a collective title for our three parishes?A: A collective title helps to bring us together as a local Catholic community and is a visible sign of our working together. Many other parish communities successfully use a collective title for

ease of communication. Simply put, it’s just easier.

Q: Will our parishes keep their exist-ing names? A: Yes.

Q: What have we done to work together over the last three months?A: We have organized our staff to better communicate and work together more effectively. Some programs like religious education, RCIA, youth, adult, and young adult ministries are now collaborating and complementing one another. We have streamlined the work of our parishes to an Administration Of-fice at the Notre Dame Rectory and a Ministry Office at the Holy Ghost Rectory. Effective the week of October 25th:· Karin Hawkins will be at the Notre Dame Office. For

all Holy Ghost financial and administrative needs, please contact Notre Dame.

· Joanne Oleson will remain as a receptionist from 9am-12pm Tuesday-Friday directing visitors and answering phone calls.

· John Shakal will be at the Holy Ghost Office.

Q: How does this affect me?A: You can expect streamlined communication and overall bet-ter use of our parish resources.

Q: What is going on at each office?A: Administration Office - Notre Dame Campus:For all the parishes, we will assist you with Mass intentions, new parishioner welcome and registration, financial matters, meetings with Fr. Burish, and serve as initial contact for baptism, marriage preparation, and anointing of the sick.A: Ministry Office - Holy Ghost Campus:Joanne, our receptionist, will be available to greet and direct visitors. Our ministry staff will work and collaborate on youth, young adult and adult faith formation. Fr. Guenther will con-duct most marriage and baptism preparation meetings.

Q: What can I expect going forward?A: In the coming weeks and months we will be working toward a shared bulletin, website, and social media under the title of Our Lady of the Falls. When you call either office, you will hear, “Our Lady of the Falls, Holy Ghost Office” or “Our Lady of the Falls, Notre Dame Office.” For office hours and staff listings, see page 5 in this bulletin. We are also in the process of updating our office phones. Stay tuned for possible changes to staff contact information.

Q: How can I help?A: Undoubtedly there will be bugs to work out as we go along. Change is hard for everyone. Please be patient and continue to pray for a smooth transition. Be engaged and continue to support your parish with your time, talent, and treasure.

McDonell Area Catholic Schools During the month of Oc-tober, we have been observing Respect Life Month. On the McDonell grounds, a pro-life flag display has reminded us of the tragedy of abortion that goes on daily, behind the scenes of our lives. We are also in the midst of a Diaper Drive to support the mothers in our community who have wel-comed the gift of new life even in challenging circumstances. Let us contin-ue to pray for the end of abortion, for soon-to-be parents who find them-selves scared and in lack of support, for families who struggle to make ends meet, for the elderly who deal with loneliness and aging, and for nurses, doctors, and politicians, that they may recognize the great gift of every life and the dignity we all have of being created in God’s image and likeness. May we ourselves witness to this dignity by the respect and love we show to every human being in our lives. As Venerable Fulton Sheen reminds us, life is worth living. -Fr. Ethan HokampAnnual Diaper Drive The McDonell Student Ambassadors and the McDonell Student Council are planning a Diaper Drive Oct. 22-29. A Bit of This & That by Sr. YvonneARE WE BLIND? Most of us have no idea what it is like to be physically blind. In the Gospel, (Mark 10:46-52) we meet the blind beggar Bartimaeus, sitting by the road. He hears that Jesus was passing by and so he cries out for help. The people around him ‘shushed’ him. The crowd thought Jesus had better things to do than care for such a sinner. In the time of Jesus, being blind wasn't only a personal burden but also would have been viewed by many as a punishment for one's sins or the sins of one's family. Thus Bar-timaeus would have been ostracized and unable to earn a living and be part of the community. He yearned for an end to his darkness and suffering. Sometimes we feel like Bartimaeus, sitting dis-heartened by the side of the road. We don't see where we stand or where we are going. We don't know what we have to believe or do. We can turn to Jesus and ask him, "Lord, let me see again". It may seem odd to us that Jesus would ask Bartimae-us what it was that he wanted. The man is blind, what else might he want but to have the blindness cured?. What on earth could he ask for but that? If God has given us good eyes, we are grateful for the gift of sight. But we have to see with the eyes of our heart what the Lord is asking of us. Spiritual blindness can be rooted in being self cen-tered, wishing to gain more money, or more power or more possessions. We need to be reminded of how we think about people with disabilities or blindness. We must see them, acknowledge their presence and contributions and include them as valuable members of our society. Without even raising his hand toward Bartimae-us , Jesus tells him that he can see. All that is need-ed is faith. A faith that restores sight, a faith that allows the blind not only to see, but to see the face of God. Faith can help us find our way when we are blinded by confusion over what is important. There is no need to wait for a miracle because we have been given our call loudly and clearly: "Go on your way, your faith has saved you". Bartimaeus became a disciple and followed Jesus. As we re-ceive Jesus in the Eucharist this Sunday, let us ask for the graces and blessings for a closer walk with the Lord. Keep safe and have a song in your heart. God bless us all!

Our 100 year old parishioner, Lil White is now in rehab at the Chippewa Manor after falling and breaking a hip. God bless her with healing!
