July 31, 2016 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of posses-sions.” Luke 12:15 The Gospel message today is so contrary to our mod-ern culture where advertising continually tries to con-vince us that our value lies in the things we possess. Jesus showed us that our true value lies in the way we live our lives. He challenges us to not store up or hoard material possessions, but rather to live a grateful and generous lifestyle. MY INFLUENCE: MY LIFE SHALL TOUCH A DOZEN LIVES BEFORE THIS DAY IS DONE, LEAVE COUNTLESS MARKS OF GOOD OR ILL, E'ER SETS THE EVENING SUN. THIS, THE WISH I ALWAYS WISH, THE PRAYER I ALWAYS PRAY; LORD, MAY MY LIFE HELP OTHER LIVES, IT TOUCHES BY THE WAY. --SELECTED PROSE FROM ENCYCLOPEDIA OF 7700 ILLUSTRATIONS.

Adult Question of the Week
WHAT DOES THE CREED MEAN?
ANSWER: Creed is a Latin word which means “I believe”. It is a formulation of beliefs that contain our chief tenets, the fundamental doctrines of Christianity. The oldest Creed is the Apostles’ Creed, a summary of apostolic teachings that were later written down. The Nicene Creed was a product of the Council of Nicea (4th cen-tury), This Creed is the text for the Profession of Faith and is used at Sunday and Holy Day Masses.

Youth Question of the Week
IF GOD CREATED EVE FROM ADAM’S RIB, WHY DO MEN HAVE THE SAME NUMBE OF RIBS AS WOMEN?
ANSWER: The creation of Eve (Gen. 2:21-22), where God puts Adam to sleep and takes one of his ribs to fashion Eve is not a feat of genetic engineering. It is not to be understood literally. The use of Adam’s rib is a poignant way to describe the union of husband and wife in marriage because, after God creates Eve, Adam takes her as his wife and says “This one is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh”.
CATHOLIC LEAGUE FOR RELIGIOUS AND CIVIL RIGHTS
Violence Abroad, Vandalism at Home July 26, 2016 Bill Donohue comments on attacks on the Catholic Church: The terrorists who beheaded the elderly priest in Normandy, France did so in the name of ISIS; two nuns and two lay persons were taken hostage, one of whom is near death. The Muslim madmen who stormed the church during Mass were shot dead by police. We also have problems at home. Hatred of the Catholic Church in America has turned ugly this month with a series of violent attacks. • In Providence, Rhode Island, vandals smashed a custom, hand-crafted pulpit, de-
based a statue, and stole property. • Las Cruces, New Mexico is home to several incidents of vandalism, including
smashing a stained-glass door, damaging the altar, and desecrating Communion hosts.
• In St. Louis, a large statue of Our Blessed Mother was smashed, and a door was spray-painted.
Vandals have struck many times in Lebanon, Missouri, breaking statues, and decapitating others. • Two churches were targeted in Redding, California, including an estimated $70,000
in damage to a stained-glass window. Human feces was smeared on statues, the crucifix, a Bible, the baptismal font, and
adoration chapel in Bowling Green, Missouri. The most egregious non-violent attack on Catholics this month was the firing of a Catholic employee at Macy's who expressed his reservations about a policy allowing men to use the women's bathrooms; the security guard said he would abide by the policy, but was fired nonetheless. From beheadings abroad, to desecrations of the Eucharist at home, the assaults on Catho-lics are gaining momentum. And now that Macy's is engaged in religious cleansing, Cath-olics risk their livelihood for merely holding to beliefs that offend the Macy's Thought Po-lice.
Perhaps those running for president would like to address the new barbarism. Catholics would surely like to hear from them.
