The New Year is almost here and everyone will be making their new years resolutions. If you want to live

green in 2015, here is a list of 11 ways to go green this year.

1. Turn down your thermostat. Using less energy reduces both carbon emissions and your energy bill. Just turn it down in the winter and put on more clothing. In the summer keep your AC unit on a temperature you can withstand without completely over heating.

2. Reusable Bags. Some stores take a certain amount off your bill for each reusable bag you bring, such as Target, CVS, Whole Foods and Giant. Depending on where you live, bringing a bag can also save you money because some places, like Washington, DC, charge you for plastic bags in order to reduce plastic bag consumption.

3. Recycle household items. There are many things that we purchase that have more uses than just what is intended. Save plastic containers and reuse them instead of buying Tupperware and research food products that can be used for other things, such as beauty products, household cleaners and more.

4. Recycle. Most neighborhoods make it part of the trash fee anyway, so recycling doesn’t have to cost any additional money. Even if you live somewhere where a recycling company does not normally visit, ask local stores if you can use their recycle dumpsters.

5. Start Composting. Use food scraps, coffee grounds, paper towels, grass clippings and leaves to start a compost. It is easy, cuts down on trash and can provide enough nutrients to your garden so you don’t have to buy fertilizer or topsoil.

6. Get a rain barrel. Sometimes there are programs that give out free rain barrels that are easy to install, which can reduce your stormwater runoff. Large amounts of contaminants from air pollution accumulate on your roof and then wash down during a rainstorm. With rain barrels, you can help clean local watersheds and the water collected can be used to water your plants, saving money on the water bill.

7. Make baby food. This can help cut costs by making baby food in bulk. Here are some tips to get you started.

8. Buy a reusable water bottle. Buying bottled water can add up in costs and contribute to plastic consump-tion. The EPA has higher water quality standards than the FDA, so most of the time bottled water is not much better than the water that comes out of your faucet.

9. Energy Star Appliance. If it is time to get a new appliance, buy one that is Energy Star certified. This can save you energy costs in the long run.

10. Keep your car as light as possible. Keeping heavy items in your car can add weight, using more gas.

11. Make eco-friendly gifts for birthdays and holidays. When you have a long list of people to buy for, look for creative things you can make with items that are already found around your home.

Are you still telling yourself that one of these days “I’m going to get organized?” I know just what you mean with so much going on, seller appointments, showings to schedule, customers to call, contracts to negotiate there’s never enough time in the day.

I am here to help you organize the one thing that is in your hand all day long, and that’s your IPhone, lets clean it up!

Is your phone cluttered with icon’s on page after page, is your background picture so busy you can hardly see the names of all your apps? A cleaned up phone can save you valuable time and keep you from searching for that app you need.

Let’s start at the beginning, always a good place to start with, and that would be your background picture. It should be a solid color, I found that I didn’t like the colors in the ready-made backgrounds provided so one day I pointed my IPhone at the ocean and now my background is subtle and my icons are more prominent, using a clear blue sky works well also.

Notice the first page of my IPhone you can clearly see everything, including the folders I have created.

You can see that on the task bar I keep my favorite icons, I only have three there because I leave a space for when I decide to move an icon, it’s a lot easier to move an icon to that line then to try and move it to another page. If you do this moving icons and creating folders will be quick and easy.

This is the last and most important step towards cleaning up that phone. Create folders so that everything is easily accessible and yes organized. For example if you use social media on your phone you have several apps that you can put in one place.

Let’s Begin: hold down your Facebook icon till all your icons begin to shake and have an X showing in the left hand corners. If your Facebook icon and your LinkedIn icon for example are not on the same page then put your Facebook icon on the bottom taskbar, go to the page where your LinkedIn icon is and place the Facebook icon directly on top of your LinkedIn icon and a folder will automatically create, this is also your opportunity to name this folder, I named mine Social. Now that your folder is created you can drag more icons in there. When you open a folder you can see its contents, no more looking for an app. Look how nice and neat that looks! To close a folder just hit your home button.

As you collect more social media apps you can put them in this folder, there is no limit since you can have many pages in one folder. You just continue this process to create folders reducing the number of pages on your phone and find everything in a flash. This photo shows another folder I created I named utilities with more than one page of icons as indicated by the two dots at the bottom of the folder, this shows this particular folder has two pages. Notice how nice and neat it looks with a clean background. Remember neatness counts! I also have folders for news, county info, documents, etc. You can be creative and neat at the same time.

I hope this tech tip helps you get a smooth operating IPhone since you’ll be using this each and every day. If you’re wondering how I took pictures of what’s showing on my phone at any given time, I’ll tell ya.

Simultaneously (at the same time) hold down both the end button and the home button, release and you have taken a screen shot. Go to your Photo’s and it will be there ready to text and or email as a photo. This is also useful if you want to take photos of a short conversation in message or even a game level. Anything you can see on your IPhone you can save as a photo.

Be organized and carry on.

WASHINGTON (February 27, 2015) — Improved buyer demand at the beginning of 2015 pushed pending home sales in January to their highest level since August 2013, according to the National Association of Realtors®. All major regions except for the Midwest saw gains in activity in January.

The Pending Home Sales Index,* a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings, climbed 1.7 percent to 104.2 in January from an upwardly revised 102.5 in December and is now 8.4 percent above January 2014 (96.1). This marks the fifth consecutive month of year-over-year gains with each month accelerating the previous month's gain.

Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist, says for the most part buyers in January were able to overcome tight supply to sign contracts at a pace that highlights the underlying demand that exists in today's market. “Contract activity is convincingly up compared to a year ago despite comparable inventory levels,” he said. “The difference this year is the positive factors supporting stronger sales, such as slightly improving credit conditions, more jobs and slower price growth.”

Yun also points to more favorable conditions for traditional buyers entering the market. All-cash sales and sales to investors are both down from a year ago1, creating less competition and some relief for buyers who still face the challenge of limited homes available for sale.

“All indications point to modest sales gains as we head into the spring buying season,” says Yun. “However, the pace will greatly depend on how much upward pressure the impact of low inventory will have on home prices. Appreciation anywhere near double-digits isn't healthy or sustainable in the current economic environment.”

The PHSI in the Northeast inched 0.1 percent to 84.9 in January, and is now 6.9 percent above a year ago. In the Midwest the index decreased 0.7 percent to 99.3 in January, but is 4.2 percent above January 2014.

Pending home sales experienced the largest increase in the South, up 3.2 percent to an index of 121.9 in Janu-ary (highest since April 2010) and are 9.7 percent above last January. The index in the West rose 2.2 percent in January to 96.4 and is 11.4 percent above a year ago.

Total existing-homes sales in 2015 are forecast to be around 5.26 million, an increase of 6.4 percent from 2014. The national median existing-home price for all of this year is expected to increase near 5 percent. In 2014, existing-home sales declined 2.9 percent and prices rose 5.7 percent.

The National Association of Realtors®, “The Voice for Real Estate,” is America's largest trade association, repre-senting 1 million members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.
