Loving Creator God, we thank you for the gift of creation and for the beauty of the Earth

that you have given us. As we celebrate Earth Hour we ask for your guidance in our attempts

to care for your gift of creation. Encourage us to minimize our ecological footprints, keep our air pure, our earth bountiful,

our waters clean and life‐giving, and to remember that your gift was meant for all who live on this planet. Help us to live simply that others may simply live.

May this simple action of turning out the lights for one hour increase our awareness of our role as stewards of creation.

Plant in each of us an appreciation and love for your sacred Creation. Breathe into us gratitude for the earth today and every day.

We make this prayer through Jesus Christ, Amen.

Social Justice Thought for the Week: (21 March – Harmony Day)

Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about

inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. The

message of Harmony Day is ‘Everyone Belongs’.

Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths. All people

who migrate to Australia bring with them some of their own

cultural and religious traditions, as well as taking on many new

traditions. Collectively, these traditions have enriched our nation.

Did you know that:

around 45 per cent of Australians were born overseas or

have at least one parent who was

we identify with about 300 ancestries

since 1945, more than 7.5 million people have migrated to Australia

more than 60 Indigenous languages are spoken in Australia.

These facts are taken from ABS 2011 Census Data.

Laurie Reedy Collection: The next collection for the fund, which supports refugees and needy families in our local area, will be held this weekend.

Project Compassion 2017

In a small town in Vietnam, a severe disability kept young Nguyet behind closed doors. Constrained by the high demands of her condition, her parents were also isolated from their neighbours. There is a high level of disability in Vietnam, particularly as a legacy of war, but little support for families whose children have disabilities. People with disability have poorer health outcomes, lower educational achievements, lower economic participation and higher rates of poverty than people without disability.

The future seemed bleak for the whole family, until Nguyet’s family became participants in a program supported by Caritas Australia. A

neighbour kindly introduced the family to the Capacity Building for Parent Associations Supporting Children with Disabilities program, which has given them support on several levels. The neighbour, a teacher, has been able to offer Nguyet home-based education, and there is capacity building for her parents and others in the same situation, through their local Parents’ Association. At Association meetings, Nguyet’s mother has been able to increase her skills for managing her daughter’s condition, and share her experiences with other parents of children with disabilities.

Nguyet has learnt to read and write and better manage her physical needs, and her creative gifts have been unlocked. Now she is increasingly engaging with her neighbours, and she and her parents are more confident about her future.

With limited support in Vietnam for the education and social inclusion of children with disabilities, young Nguyet lived an isolated life. Then, through a neighbour, her family became involved with a Caritas-Australia supported program offering her education, creative outlets and community interaction, and strengthening her parents’ skills and support networks. Now Nguyet’s mother has great hope for her future.

Please donate to Project Compassion 2017 and give children living with disabilities in Vietnam the opportunity for education and inclusion in their community.

Please collect a box or envelope on your way out.

“Lighting Pathways for life….”

St Paddy’s Pot Luck: Last Saturday approx. 70 people gathered after Mass for the first Pot-Luck this year. A great time was had by all, to be sure!

Next Pot-Luck will be held on June 10th to mark St Anthony’s Day

(June 13th).

Hello Everyone, I wish to begin by saying that our P&F Executive has yet again spent many hours preparing for our fundraiser held last Friday night. The organisational skills of this group are very good and as such the evening was

extremely well run. We were fed and watered and we sat in a room decorated in theme. Thanks to An and her team. I know An would be very quick to acknowledge the support of others and what these parents did to ensure the success of the evening. I also acknowledge the work of Richard Reading our caretaker for his efforts in preparing for this evening. Thank you Richard sincerely. One of the things asked of me was to offer myself up to wear my “bogan” outfit at school on Monday. The hope was to raise $500.00. On the first go-around, we raised about $350.00, however, on hearing that it was school photos on Monday, the hat went around again and we raised over $1000.00. I was more than happy to be present at school in costume if it meant raising that amount of money. So, our staff photo is an interesting one this year. I have been going on to the staff about presenting themselves professionally in a corporate shirt and making sure they all wear that shirt in the staff photo, only to be photo-bombed by me, dressed like that. To the staff, I say sorry! I also appeared in one of the photos with Year 5/6. This is a collector addition photo for those interested in purchasing. Paul

APRE NEWS – Caritas Caritas began in Germany in 1897 and was named after a Latin word meaning love and compassion. It has grown to become one of the world’s largest humanitarian agencies. Caritas, the Catholic agency for Aid and Development began in Australia in 1964. Caritas focus all year on raising money and awareness for people throughout the world who need a helping hand. Their ‘Project Compassion’ event, held through Lent each year, is a major source of income for them. We remember the people who need our prayer and support throughout the world, and we also remember the many people who dedicate their lives to providing this support. God of all life, we praise you for your abundant love given to us in the gifts of each individual person. May we be affirmed in our giftedness and strengthened in your Spirit, that we may do good for all your people. This we ask in union with your Spirit. Amen. HOLY WEEK LITURGY OF THE WORD

On Friday 31 March at 9.15am, we will have Liturgy of the Word to remember the events in Jesus’ life that occurred during Holy Week. Following the Holy Week Liturgy, we will have a shared morning tea in the school grounds. Parents and community friends are very welcome to attend. Kathy Doherty
