FFrom the Pastor’s Desk... The Catholic Charities Appeal is the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's single most important annual fundraising initiative, and your supported is greatly needed.

Poverty, hunger and homelessness remain serious challenges in our community. Please join us in supporting the Appeal as it continues to impact those in need all over the Greater Philadelphia Area. Visit catholiccharitiesappeal.org to make your donation today!

POOR BOXES - All funds received through our Parish Poor Boxes during the month of February will be used to support the Code Blue Overnight

Emergency Warming Center. To learn more or to volunteer visit www.annsheart.org

ONGOING FORMATION – We invite you to take advantage of the life-long learning opportunities available to our members through

our parish subscriptions to FORMED and to Word on Fire ENGAGE. To subscribe to FORMED, go to FORMED.org and register with our parish; to subscribe to Word on Fire ENGAGE, visit our church at flocknote.com/StAnnPhx.

SERVICE – We invite you to explore our Parish Ministry Opportunities booklet under the Ministries tab on our Parish Homepage to learn of the many opportunities to serve our

neighbors both through our parish and also through the many other local human service agencies. Even in this context of pandemic we might find a way to help someone or to receive help ourselves.

UPCOMING EVENTS

SPECIAL COLLECTION – Next weekend we will join with the other Catholics of our nation in the SOLIDARITY FUND FOR THE CHURCH IN AFRICA. www.usccb.org/catholic-giving/opportunities-for-giving/solidarity-fund-for-africa/collection

Each year you give us this joyful season when we prepare to celebrate the

paschal mystery with mind and heart renewed….

As we recall the great events that gave us new life in Christ,

You bring the image of your Son to perfection within us.

(Preface #1 for Lent)

– I think there is something off (“fishy”)about the fish symbol on many Catholiccalendars on Ash Wednesday and the

Fridays of Lent. Lent is not about eating fish (formerly a food of the poor). Lent is about those who have the regular option of eating “high on the hog” choosing to abstain from eating meat so that in their bodies and in their bellies, they may experience one day a week during Lent what most of the people on earth experience most days of their lives. This experience of abstaining from meat is meant to: 1) raise our consciousness; 2) promote human solidarity; 3) provide material help to those in need; 4) name, face and change social structures and economic arrangements that exclude billions of our brothers and sisters.

SACRAMENTAL CONFESSION - Part of living a penitential life (that is, a life open to growing in Grace through Jesus Christ) is living a sacramental life. Part of living a

sacramental life, is celebrating the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. As a communal point of examination this week let’s try: “Save me, O God, from my unknown sin” (Psalm 19:13). During Lent each week we are offering three scheduled opportunities for Confessions in Chapel: Tuesday at 8:30 AM and at 6:30 PM, and Saturday from 3:15 to 4:00 PM.

HUNGER IN OUR WORLD - Jesus told us that whatever we did for one of these least brothers of his we did for him. Reflect on the challenge of global hunger— it is a reality for millions of our sisters and brothers. What will you do to support the hungry in our community and around the world? Visit crsricebowl.org to learn more.
