Dear Friends and Neighbors, February, another month and a LOT to report on. The New Year’s Eve Spectacular received high accolades by all who attended. The ambiance, entertainment, food and comradery combined to make the evening a GREAT one. Our social committee demonstrated AGAIN how outstanding they are and hats off to Ed Rice, Barbara Golden and Mark Kleiner for knocking the ball out of the park event after event. Shortly (very shortly) after New Year’s we had the 12th Annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Tournament and Gala - which has become a cornerstone of our winter season. In addition to our community raising over $1mm for the 3rd year in a row (for a total of $8.5mm) we had a sensational time. Over 300 members participated in golf play, and pre and post play galas. Morgan‘s friends (since they have been coming here for over 10 years - our friends) included Paula Creamer, Lexi Thompson, So Yeon Ryu, Brittany Lincicome, Gerina Piller, Brooke Henderson and Julie Inkster — the very best of the LPGA. It was a wonderful two days. Of course, our own Morgan Pressel is the glue that makes all of this come together for a great cause. If that were not enough, we enjoyed the Ladies’ Card & Mah Jongg Party attended by over 500 women. Queens, Aces and Jokers were all over the place. Another annual event of which we can be proud. A special thank you to Ellen Liebman and her committee for handling all the details year after year. The Men’s Golf One Day Member Guest was equally outstanding. Our invitees were all gushing about how we do things differently at St. Andrews. It too was great and Paul Clivio led the effort with his incredible staff. The Dolphins Cheerleaders were there to cheer us on.We are wrapping up the final aspects of the CIP. We finally received our Certificate of Occupancy. Notwithstanding the diligence which was applied to the project we always find things that remain to be finished and some things that need tweaks. We are now in that process. The 3 year $25mm Club Improvement Plan which included among other things, the new Fazio II Course and upgraded practice facilities, expanded Ladies’ Card Room and Promenade Room, new Sports Field, new 11,000 sq. ft. Spa & Salon and the renovated Fitness & Tennis Center and two new Pickleball Courts came in On Time and Within Budget. The items which remain to be tweaked are also well within budget. Our focus on the merger of the Club and POA continues. The Club recently received confirmation of the State of Florida of the very favorable tax consequences which would be a byproduct of the merger. We urge you to attend one of the three town hall meetings so that we may present all of the facts which we now have in hand.On the financial side, we are within our operating budget. At this time home sales are good and are on pace with sales during the same period last year. As of this writing we have eight homes closed and four pending. The Membership Department is reporting an increase in real estate broker activity with many requests for information and tours of our Club. All best,

Steve IrwinPresident, Board of GovernorsP.S. St. Andrews is Moving Forward!

Dear Members: The season is very busy and in full swing. It is great to see the Club performing so well for your enjoyment. The staff continues to ensure you are receiving the very best in service delivery and programming. The members continue to sign up for all scheduled events well in advance to ensure they get into the event they desire and we are selling out more and more than ever before. We ask that you please review the Club’s Rules & Regulations and help your children and grandchildren understand the Club has policies that must be adhered to in order to ensure everyone enjoys their time here. We find during the holiday period of time that your guests are not made aware of the dress code policies, cell phone and other frequent violation of Rules. Management is responsible for enforcing the Rules that your elected officials created for the Club over the years. The most frequently abused Rules are cell phones being used in the dining rooms and card rooms along with golf carts being driven through the parking lots which is a violation and potentially puts your life in danger with cars being parked and pulled out that could cause harm to someone. Thank you for your cooperation and adherence to your Club’s Rules. We are gearing up for the President’s Day weekend. The Spa & Salon will restrict use of the showers, saunas and wet areas during this period of time to those members and guests with a scheduled service treatment. The Fitness Center Locker Rooms offer the same amenities for your convenience and we encourage you to enjoy the outdoor hot tub in the Pool area. The Spa & Salon continues to increase in member usage and the number of treatments is up 20% over last year’s business. We see high demand for many different treatments and have added a Salt Therapy treatment for a nominal upgrade fee. With the elections around the corner, we are seeking qualified individuals who have time to devote to the Club’s Board. If you are interested, please contact Karil Kuntz, Executive Assistant to find out details on how you may submit your information to the Nominating Committee for consideration. We need qualified individuals who seek to serve on the Board for a three year period and understand organizational and strategic planning along with learning from our professionals how our team works together to ensure the long term success of St. Andrews Country Club. What are the new trends for private country clubs? If you would like to learn and hear from me on this subject, please join me on March 6, at 10:00 a.m. where I will be sharing the latest and new initiatives evolving in the Club world. I will be attending the Word Club Managers Association of America Conference later this month and upon my return, I will share the insights from the other best Clubs in the country.

The 2019 Golf Season kicked off with the 12th Annual Morgan & Friends fight cancer tournament. This year Morgan was joined by seven other LPGA stars and the two day event raised 1 Million dollars for the 4th straight year bringing the 12 year total to over $8.5 million. The event was covered by News Channel 12, the Sun-Sentinel, and live on the Golf Channel, as well as many other news outlets. Most of the monies raised are due to the generous donations made by the St. Andrews Membership. Way to go St. Andrews you are amazing!

Happy President’s Day! We should always be thankful for being here in America (and being able to be a part of St Andrews). January started the new 2019 season with our own President’s Cup. The matches were played on January 15 and 22, the first round was a two-person scramble score that was then added to the second round which was best ball of the twosome. The 18 holers had four flights and the nine-holers competed in one flight. Winners in each flight were:

Congratulations to all who participated and those who won!

Over NetTHE

Aaron Krickstein Director of Tennis

Greetings everyone! I hope the recent holidays were enjoyable for you and your families. A quick December recap shows we were jam packed at our beautiful, newly renovated Fitness & Tennis Center. The Tennis and Pickleball courts were very busy throughout the holiday period and the new Tennis Shop was buzzing daily with energy, excitement and of course new merchandise that brought smiling faces to all. Our Jr. Holiday Clinics had between 30-40 kids each day and the Jr. Tennis Pizza Party was also a big hit with the kids. Thanks to all for your continued support with our tennis program. The annual Professional Tennis exhibition (played on December 18) was a resounding success. Over 300 members and guests came to watch current world #6 Kevin Anderson take on yours truly in an eight game pro set. Luckily for me, Kevin didn’t crush me too bad, as I actually played fairly well and hung in there for the most part. Thank you goes out to my good friend and MC for the evening Jimmy Arias. As always, Jimmy did a tremendous job entertaining and amusing the crowd with his constant comical banter. Special thanks to our Head Tennis Professional Simon Evelyn, who played great in the doubles exhibition and of course kudos to my entire tennis staff for all their hard work and support in making this year’s event a terrific experience for all. One other recent event to report on is our annual Men’s / Women’s Pro-Am. Like most of our recent tournaments, the Pro-Am was sold out with a record 56 players! All courts were used as we had twenty-eight members compete with and against twenty-eight of the best South Florida tennis professionals. The weather was beautiful and everyone had an amazing time. On the Men’s side, newcomer Craig Shapiro played inspired tennis and used his solid overall game to win 1st place. Craig edged out the always tough and two - time former winner of this event – Finalist Dr. Steve Rosenfeld. On the Ladies side of the draw, Champion Candy Mesner used her awesome net game and incredible reach to barely get by Finalist Susan Emby. Thanks to all players for supporting this fun event. Congratulations are in order for two of our Men’s Palm Beach Open teams, whom both recently won league titles. Captain George Meireles led his Division 2 team to victory and Captain Paul Shafran also led his Division 4 team to a first place finish. Well done Men and go St. Andrews! In closing, please be sure to sign up for all of these awesome upcoming events in February/March/April: Mixed Doubles Club Championships (Saturday, February 9), Men’s Member – Guest (Friday, March 1), Ladies Member – Guest (Monday, March 11), annual Color War event (Saturday, March 16), Spring Tennis Event and Luncheon (Saturday, April 6) and our Parent – Child Event (Friday, April 12). See you on the courts!

You will probably be as shocked as I am to read in this article that it’s time to start training for the St. Andrews Annual Color War Competition. With such a competitive group and so many fitness enthusiasts living in and moving into St. Andrews Country Club, this is going to be the best year ever between Red and Black.

We are leaving off a couple of events that have not proven as popular as we would like and we are adding new fitness events so so please take a look at the signs posted on the cardio and the strength machines starting this month. Start training NOW to be Color War Fitness Champion of 2019. Mark your calendars and don’t even think of leaving town and for this fun friendly competition.

Spa Industry Trends 2019!Salt TherapyKeeping up with industry trends in all aspects of our club is very important to us at St. Andrews Country Club. We recognize that the real estate market is quite competitive and being ahead of the competition is especially important in areas that are highly concentrated with private club communities. It is important for our members to feel confident that club management is staying informed of trends in all areas in order to consistently increase home values. Providing stellar facilities and innovative services is our goal!

Dry Salt Therapy (Halotherapy) was identified as a trend in the US spa industry in 2013. Originally, the primary market was stand-alone facilities, franchises and additions to other wellness businesses. The industry has seen extensive growth and currently there are over 675 facilities offering Halotherapy due to positive wellness benefits. Organizations have been formed inclusive of over 700 members throughout the country.

Salt therapy is not a new concept in many European Countries. Health benefits have been recognized for many years. Medical doctors have prescribed sessions of salt therapy for patients as a more holistic approach for respiratory conditions. Research continues to show the benefits of salt therapy. Wellness Centers, Assisting Living communities, and Veterinarian practices are just a few of the industries that are recognizing the positive results and are placing Salt Therapy into their facilities.

The Salt Therapy Oasis at The Spa & Salon at St Andrews Country Club has received extremely positive feedback and rave reviews. Our members relax and revitalize while breathing in the micro-ionized salt in the air. Respiratory and Skin conditions are addressed while you enjoy the soft music and dim lighting of the space. Visit the Spa and take a peek at this amazing Oasis.

Show your love and gratitude for your loved one by sending them to the Spa & Salon on Valentine’s Day where they will enjoy Prosecco and chocolate covered strawberries while they are pampered and rejuvenated.

More restaurants and chain restaurants are offering healthier choices: the restaurants need to keep up with the times, and that is healthier options for all age groups. More restaurants are opening up in your area that are yummy and topped with high nutritious dense foods, such as: avocado, beans, sweet potatoes, or grainy dishes such as quinoa or barley.Vegetables: they are back! Vegetables are packed into Bowls have become a quick serve favorite to many. We used to see vegetables as little more than toppings on a Pizza. They are full of fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. This is our new trend, let’s keep it coming!Omelet Bars are continuing to become so popular. Eggs have healthy fats and we have learned to understand the importance of healthy fats. Omelets also give us the opportunity of eating more veggies, B vitamins, and complete protein.Supplements are on the rise. More and more of us have figured out that the obesity crisis has some part of malnourishment at its core. More and more of us are also enjoying protein shakes with some 20 or more plant derived vitamins. Home cooking rebounds for our younger adults. Kitchens are getting bigger, and cooking with family or friends has become quite cool! It is social, creative, and just plain fun. 70% of Americans manage to cook at home at least four days a week. It is easier to get recipes today that you can choose without searching all the cook books.
