SUNDAY 11 NOVEMBER 2018
32nd Sunday of the Year - Year B
Apart from the Temple
discourse in Mark 13, the
episode in this Sunday’s
gospel is Jesus’ last public
act before his passion and
death. He decries the
actions of those scribes who
are full of their own
importance, whose ministry
is focused on their own
status and position.
Two of the scribes’ most
important obligations were
to take care of widows and
orphans and to pray. Last
week we were told the
greatest commandment was
to love God and your
neighbour but instead of
living this some scribes
would take money from the
widows (they were the lawyers of their day and administered the estates of
widows) and they rattled through prayers insincerely. For this Jesus says they
will receive “a very severe condemnation”.
In contrast is the poor widow, who demonstrates true discipleship, she gives
everything she has - her whole livelihood.
Adambrae Remembrance Service: Fr Simon will lead this service today, Sunday 11th, at 2.00pm in the pavilion at Adambrae Cemetery.
Youth Club: Sunday evenings in the Lanthorn from 6.00pm - 8.00pm. The Youth Club would like to thank the One World Group for their
very kind donation of £100 to Club funds.
The next session will be led by Fr Simon and will be held on Wednesday 14 November at 7.00pm in St Peter’s. The topic will be
‘Spirituality’.
Samaritans: Next Thursday 15th, at 7.00pm in St Margaret’s Academy, Steven Harkins, a friend of Fr Simon and a member of the Samaritans
organisation, will be in the school to talk about their work. This is part of the school’s initiative for mental health and well being. Everyone
is welcome.
Feast of St Margaret: Congratulations to St Margaret’s Academy on their feast day next Friday, the 16th. The Archbishop will be joining the
school community for Mass at 9.30am and everyone is welcome to attend.
40th Anniversary Living Stones Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group: “Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen
and precious in God’s sight and like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house.” 1 Peter 2:4-5. Day of Prayer and
thanksgiving in St Andrew’s church, Craigshill on Saturday 17 November. Starts at 11.00am prompt and finishes at 4.00pm. Tea/coffee will
be provided but please bring a packed lunch. The day will finish with parish Exposition at 4.30pm and Vigil Mass at 5.30pm.
Knowing Jesus Through Luke: Presentation on St Luke, directed prayer session and presentation on public reading on Saturday 17
November from 11.00am - 3.30pm at Gillis Centre. See poster and leaflet for booking details.
Presentation of the Gospel: Takes place on Sunday 18 November. All P4 children preparing for First Holy Communion should attend.
Social Committee: The next meeting will be on Tuesday 20 November at 7.00pm in St Theresa’s.
International Catholic Peace Organisation: In order to launch Pax Christ (the International Peace Organisation) in Scotland, a meeting is
being held at Conforti Institute, Coatbridge on 23-25 November. The meeting will include workshops, sharing and input from those in
education. There is no charge and meals and accommodation are available if required. Possible to attend only part of the weekend,
however, you need to register. For more details and to book a place contact [email protected].
Syro-Malabar Community: A fond farewell to the Syro-Malabar community after 10 years in St Philip’s. The communities from Falkirk,
Kirkcaldy, Edinburgh and Livingston will come together in one parish on Saturday 24 November in St Kentigern’s, Barnton. The Cardinal
from Kerala is coming and all are invited to take part in the celebrations at 3.00pm. We thank Fr Sebastian and the Livingston community
for their example of faith and dedication to the gospel over the time they have spent with us. The national shrine of St Alphonsa shall also
move to Edinburgh.
Thank You: The Spiritans (Holy Ghost Fathers) would like to thank everyone for their generosity with their recent Mission Appeal.

ST PETER’S …
Leaf Clearing: Most leaf falling has now ended and the parish property needs an autumn rake and brush! If anyone would like to come
along THIS AFTERNOON at 2.00pm armed with a rake and a brush I’m sure we can get it done very quickly. The more the merrier (kids
can help too).
Calling all new money counters: A meeting has been scheduled for those who have volunteered to help with this (and anyone else who’d
like to). At the meeting, it will be explained clearly what’s involved in it all. Tuesday 20 November at 7.00pm in the side hall.
Prayer Partners Wanted: We’re looking for names of anyone who would like to be a Prayer Partner for children preparing for
sacraments. This is NOT for adults to link up directly with children - a name will simply be given for you to pray for. Speak to Fr Simon if
you’re interested in getting involved.
Altar Servers/Serviettes: Fr Simon needs to know which children will be attending the Christmas Vigil so we can prepare them to make a
gift to the parish. Please let him know as soon as possible.

Remember, remember ,,,
During November, we remember. This Sunday - 11th November - is especially
poignant as many remember in various ceremonies throughout Europe and beyond, the end of the First World War. In many of our parishes Books of Remembrance are open once again for us to record names of those whom we have loved and – for now – do not see. To ‘remember’ is to ‘connect again’. As we do our remembering we too gradually are ‘put back together’ to help us manage our own bereavements and griefs. Here are some words we might use as a prayer as we remember someone we have loved especially and whom we miss. Perhaps light a candle at home, sit quietly and say the words …
A Litany of Remembrance
In the rising of the sun and in its going down,
we will remember them.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter,
we will remember them.
In the opening of buds and in the rebirth of spring,
we will remember them.
In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer,
we will remember them.
In the rustling of leaves and in the beauty of autumn,
we will remember them.
In the beginning of the year and when it ends,
we will remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength,
we will remember them.
When we feel lost and sick at heart,
we will remember them.
When we have joys we yearn to share,
we will remember them.
So long as we live, they too shall live,
for they are now a part of us, as we remember them.
Fr Simon

WIADOMOŚCI POLSKIEJ WSPÓLNOTY W LIVINSTON
Drodzy, Prorok Eliasz opowiada o wdowie z Sarepty, która uwierzyła Bogu wbrew nadziei. Dzban
mąki nie wyczerpał się i baryłka oliwy nie opróżniła się według obietnicy, którą Pan wypowiedział
przez Eliasza. Psalmista wychwala miłosierdzie Boga: Ochrania sierotę i wdowę, lecz występnych
kieruje na bezdroża. Pan króluje na wieki. Zaufanie jest kluczem jednego z 8 błogosławieństw
Jezusowych: Błogosławieni ubodzy w duchu, albowiem do nich należy królestwo niebieskie.
Opowieść Marka ewangelisty dotyka istoty naszej ofiarności wobec Boga i potrzebujących: Ta
uboga wdowa wrzuciła najwięcej ze wszystkich, którzy kładli do skarbony. Wszyscy bowiem
Polska, bycie Polakiem, patriotyzm, tradycja, przywiązanie do religii przodków i tradycji
duchowej? Co i jak mogę coś wnieść do tego wielkiego dziedzictwa? Wasz ks. Piotr
