Student Support Services

Who is eligible?

Students must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident, enrolled

or accepted for enrollment at Lamar University and must

meet one of more of the following requirements:

A low-income individual—you are receiving financial

aid, such as PELL Grant, SEOG, Student Loan,

Vocational Rehab, need-based scholarship, or your

taxable income meets federal guidelines

A first generation college student—Neither of your

parents received a four-year college degree before you

were 18 years old

An individual with a disability—You have a

documented learning or physical disability. You must

be registered with the Students With Disabilities Office

The mission of the Lamar University Student Support Services program is to promote the attainment of knowledge and skills that enhance the retention

and graduation of students from low-income, first generation background and students with disabilities.

What do we offer?

Advisors who work with a small population of students and know you personally

Financial Aid, financial literacy and scholarship assistance

Tutors who are available to SSS students only Computer lab, scantrons, laptops, resource books,

calculators, student lounge and more Cultural trips, academic workshops and mixers Academic, career and personal counseling Learning & study skills assessment Develop study skills, test taking skills and note

taking skills

TRiO Student Support Services is one of

several federally funded programs developed

under the Higher Education Act of 1965. The

intent of SSS, along with other TRiO programs,

is to provide the support and resources that

are necessary for students from diverse

backgrounds to achieve their higher education

goals. SSS is designed to help first-generation,

low-income and students with disabilities who

plan to complete a degree at a four year

university. We provide students with a variety

of services designed to create an academically

focused environment.
