ASSOCIATION INAUGURAL FUNCTION OF MECHANICAL ENGG. DEPARTMENT AT SGBIT S. G. Balekundri Institute of Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering inaugural function was organized on 19 August 2017. The chief guest, Shri Aravind Kapadia, founder of Vikas composites inaugurated the association during the occasion chief guest addressed the students and enlightened the role of mechanical engineers in the industry is not only to work only on directions of the superiors but also at the same time work all by themselves so that they can learn from their mistakes. At the same time encouraged the students to be an entrepreneur, by coming up with innovative ideas and work on implementing those ideas in reality and create job opportunities. During the occasion Prof. S B Bidre was felicitated on reaching his superannuation at SGBIT. He thanked college and management for giving him an opportunity to work in this esteemed institute. Prof. G B Deshpande shared his memorable movements during the span of five years, which he spent with him. Principal Dr. S S. Salimath in his presidential speech advised the students to develop skill, professionalism and bring and bring name to their teachers and parents. He also revealed the role of Engineers in the developmental aspects for the benefit of society and mankind. In the function Dr. U. C. Kapale , Head of the Department welcomed the program ,Prof. SharanabasappaZampa delivered the vote of thanks, and proposed activity for the year 2017-18 was read by Mr. Manjunath Angadi, The program was coordinated by Prof. Prasad Kallolimath. GUEST LECTURE ON “ INDIAN ARMY: A PATH OF GLORY”
The Association of Royal Mechanical Engineering Students of S. G. BALEKUNDRI
INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, Belagavi has organized a guest lecture on “Indian army: a
path of glory” on 14/09/2017.
The chief guest of the session Major Rohit Jatain from Maratha Light Infantry
Regimental Centre, Belagavi shared the career options available in Indian Army. He has
explained about needs of engineering graduates in armed forces through direct entry, the Short
Service Commission to become an army officer and also in technical graduate officer schemes.
Though the Indian engineers are good in technology but their contribution towards Indian army
is comparatively less hence it is high time to make career and service to the motherland through
Indian army. The Indian army provides lots of opportunities to serve nationally and
internationally. The government of India provides much more facilities to the army officers when
they are in service as well as after their retirement too. In the selection process for army on
mental stability, commitment, analytical ability, decision making capabilities of the candidate
will be checked.
Principal, Dr. S. S. Salimath in presidential remarks quoted the Sanskrit Shloka “The
service to the mother and motherland is equal to Heaven”. He also motivated to take career in
armed forces.
The one more session on nano actuators was arranged by Mr. Prasanna Chikkmath from
Servo Controls India Pvt. Ltd. Belagavi.
The program was welcomed by student representative Mr. Manjunath Angadi, Dr. U. C.
Kapale, Department Head, Prof. Prasad Kallolimath, faculty coordinator, staff and students of all
the five departments witnessed the gathering. Mr. CijinCheriyan delivered the vote of thanks.

INVITED TALK ON “HYDRAULICS AND PNEUMATICS”.
The Association of Royal Mechanical Engineering Students of S. G. BALEKUNDRI
INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, Belagavi had organized an invited talk on “Hydraulics and
Pneumatics” on 11/10/2017.
Gopal R. Deshpande, Chief Engineer- Design and Development, HylocHydrotechnic Pvt.
Ltd, Belagavi was addressing the students of mechanical engineering.
He started the talk with the basic knowledge of hydraulics used in the industries. He took
the real examples of road transport including the automotive, trains, marine applications and
aviation application where the hydraulics play a vital role the usage of hydraulics and pneumatics
has made the life easy where the effort of human beings is reduced.
The Hyloc industries now exporting many components including valves and hydraulic
actuators to the multinational and international industries. The intension of the program is to
introduce the practices of industries to the academics.
The program was witnessed by principal Dr.S. S. Salimath, Head of the Department Dr.
U. C. Kapale, Faculty Coordinator Prof. Prasad. S. Kallolimath, Dr. Veeranna D. K, Placement
Officer Ravindra Yaragathimath, teaching and non-teaching staff and students participated in the
program.

One day invited talk by Dr. Raghuraj Rao on “Role of Engineer’s in Development of India”
The Association of Royal Mechanical Engineering Students (ARMES) of S. G.
Balekundri Institute of Technology, Belagavi, has organized an invited talk on “Role of
Engineer’s in development of India” by Dr. Raghuraj Rao, Vice President, Aqua Alloys,
Belagavi on 30/10/2017.
India stands third in the list of highest GDP on the world next to china and America, even
then we are considered as a developing country in the world
During his talk he stressed on the challenges and advantages to the next generation youth
in the area of technology, economy agriculture, industry, management, education and research.
He emphasized the efficient and effective utilization of the resources is the biggest challenges for
the next generation engineers. He called the students to find a solution for effective waste
management and recycling of the natural waste and electronic waste which is the biggest
challenge for the future engineers.
The program was presided by Dr. S. S. Salimath, Head of the Department Dr. U. C.
Kapale, Dr. K. B. Jagadeeshgouda, Faculty coordinator Prof. Prasad Kallolimath, and Student
Coordinator Mr. Manjunath. Angadi, all the staff and students of the department we participated.

Throw ball tournament for girls
For the first time in college history Inter-branch Girls Throw-ball tournament was organized
by ARMESon 15th Sept. 2017. 4 teams participated in this tournament. Teams were 7th sem
E&C, 1st sem E&C, Civil and E&E.
For the inauguration we invited Prof. Shailaja Mali HOD Chemistry Dept.,Prof. Miss.
Jasmith Charantimath Chemistry Dept. and Physical Director Mr. V. S. Aralimatti.Prof. Shailaja
Mali advised about the importance of warm-up for our body.
Prof Shailaja Mali inaugurated the match by serving the ball.
First match was played between 1st Sem E&C and 7th Sem E&C. The match was of best
of 3 sets with 17 points in each set. 7th Sem E&C won the match by two consecutive sets and
moved to the finals.
Second match was played between Civil and E&E. E&E won the match by winning 2
consecutive sets and moved directly to the finals.
For the final match we invited our beloved Principal Dr. S. S. Salimath, Dr. U. C. Kapale
HOD and Dean Academics, Prof. Prasad Kallolimath, Mr. Ravindra Yaragattimath TPO and
PED V. S. Arlimatti. Principal congratulated all the players for making it to the finals. And also
wished them a very good luck.
The Final match was very interesting and gave their best to win the tournament.
The match went on to the deciding set and E&E Department students won the tournament.
The main motto of this tournament was to select the best players for the college team. And the
best players of this Tournament made it to the college team and bagged 3rd place in Belagavi
Zone Inter-Collegiate Girls Throw-ball Tournament.
5 a side football tournament
Under the banner of ARMES Inter Collegiate 5 a side football tournament was organized
on 13/9/2017 to 18/9/2017. During this event Principal Dr. S. S. Salimath, Dean Academics and
Head of mechanical engineering department Dr. U. C. Kapale, ARMES coordinators Prof.
Prasad S. Kallollimath, and physical director V. S. Aralimatti and all the student participants
were present. Dr. S.S Salimath addressed the students that, “both games and sports are very
important for all of us because they keep us strong, healthy and fit. It is the area which can give
us a change from the same daily life. Everyone likes sports because it is the useful means of
entertainment as well as way to physical activity. Both are character building in nature and gives
huge level body energy and strength.” 10 teams took part in the event. Civil engineering students
were the winners of the tournament. Mr.Sagar B,Mr.Harshavardan Patil, and Mr.Akshay Lad Co-
Ordinated the events.

Volley Ball Tournament
Under the banner of ARMES Inter Collegiate Volley ball tournament was conducted on
10/11/2017 to 12/11/2017. During this event Principal Dr. S. S. Salimath, Dean Academics and
Head of mechanical engineering department Dr. U. C. Kapale, ARMES coordinators Prof.
Prasad Kallollimath, and Physical Director V. S. Aralimatti and all the student participants were
present. Four teams took part in the event. Mr. Aditya Sabade was the match referee. the final
match was played between 7th sem mechanical team Vs 3rd sem mechanical team in which 3rd
sem mechanical team won the match.

Industrial Visit to M/s Amijeet Founders:
An industrial visit to 3rd semester students was organized on 27/10/17 and 30/10/17 to
M/s Amijeet Founders ,Belagavi. M/s Amijeet Founders is a well known Foundry in belagavi
during the visit students gained the practical knowledge about the practices and processes
followed in foundry industries, also gained the knowledge about the safety measures followed in
the foundry industries. It was the useful visit in bridging the gap between academics and the
industry. Mr. Ajit Hangirgekar Proprietor and Mr. Sandeep of M/s Amijeet Founders interacted
with the students, Prof. S S Bhoj, Prof. Angad Naik, Prof.Sangappa H and Prof. Rajshekhar
Chimmat co ordinated the students during the visit.

Industrial Visit to Jayhind Engineering and Ashok Iron Works (CBMD Division):
An industrial visit to 5th semester students was organized on 3/11/2017 to Jayhind
Engineering and Ashok Iron Works (CBMD Division) a well known largest group of Industries
in Belagavi during the visit students gained the practical knowledge about the practices and
processes followed in Machine Shops, also gained the knowledge about the machining
Operations, operation performed under CNC machines, safety measures followed in the foundry
machine shops. It was the useful visit in bridging the gap between academics and the industry.

Interaction with Miss Vijaylaxmi Zirali working as a teaching assistant in Otto-von-
Guericke-Universität Magdeburg a university in Germany, under her interaction she shared her
experience of working Germany , difference between Indian university and German university,
Importance of Internship for the students in industries ,importance of German Language to work
in Germany, and also experience of working in real time projects . It was very useful interaction
for the self improvement and institutional improvements. Principal Dr. S S Salimath, Dean

Hands on Training for Technical Staff
Hands on training sessions were conducted on 13/12/17 to 23/12/17 for mechanical Department
technical staff. In the view of Quality improvement process and teaching learning process, Faculty as per
their expertise trained the technical staff in their respective labs, Training sessions in HMT lab, MMM
Lab, Machine shop lab, & CAD lab were conducted, Prof S S Bhoj, Prof. Prasad Kallolimath, Prof.
Vaijanath Patil, Prof. Suprit Malagi,Prof. Pramod S and Prof. Alok Kiragi were the trainers.
