Thank you to everyone who has helped get us this far – its very excing to think that were on our way to the build now. Well keep you posted! Its been 20 years since the Millennium Green was founded and we have decided to do a long-overdue bit of thinning out of the wooded areas. It is best pracce to plant the trees closer than needed to allow for losses to disease and failing to establish. But over me the trees grow tall and thin in a fight for light and resources. This weakens the trees and stresses them out. They are then more suscepble to wind damage and aack from pests and disease. I met Alec the Tree Surgeon last month and he suggested the candidates for removal. This will open out the wood and create lile glades – ideal to establish some wildflowers and increase the biodiversity of the site. As the Millennium Green is in a conservaon area we need to apply to Rushcliffe Borough Council for permission. The process takes around 6 weeks so once granted we should be able to start in early April. This is the Ideal me for planng wildflower seeds so fingers crossed they should establish in me for a good show this year. This work isnt cheap and will cost around £500 to carry out. We are planning to apply for a Biodiversity Grant, but there is no guarantee. Failing that we will be looking to ulise money raised at the Retox Karaoke event adversed on the front page or from our Friends of The Millennium Green scheme- see next months entry. Thank you to everyone who helped out on the work party on 29th February. Your help is really appreciated.
