Dr.A.Leema Rose, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering received

InSc Research Excellence Award for her research in the field of FRP.

The Department of Civil Engineering in association with Institution of Engineers(IEI)

and Indian Society for Technical Education(ISTE) organized a Guest Lecture on “Role

Of Civil Engineering In Military Services”on 08.10.2020 at 7.00 P.M.to 8.00 P.M.

Around 100 participants including external members were participated for this online

guest lecture through Microsoft teams. The guest speaker is Prominent Alumni of our

Civil Engineering Department 2014 Batch, Lieutenant RAGU.P, Indian Army.

Department of Civil Engineering in association with Institution of Engineers and

Indian Society for Technical Education organized a International Guest Lecture on

“Advancements in Construction Management ”on 04.10.2020 at 9.00 A.M.to 10. A.M.

Around 80 participants were participated for this online International guest lecture

through Microsoft teams. The guest speaker is Prominent Alumni of our Civil

Engineering Department 2015 Batch, Mr. N. Syedul Mubarak, Project Controller, SNC

Lavalin, Canada.

Department of Civil Engineering in association with Institution of Engineers and Indian

Society for Technical Education organized an International Guest Lecture on “Construction 4.0-

The Future of Construction Industry “on 23.10.2020 at 6.00 P.M.to 7. P.M. Around 50

participants were participated for this online International guest lecture through Microsoft teams.

The guest speaker is Prominent Alumni of our Civil Engineering Department 2017 Batch, Mr. B.

Lakshmi Narayanan, QA/QC Engineer, IMAR Interiors, KUWAIT.

Ms.K.Tharini, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering has been a

resource person in “ AICTE Sponsored 6 Days Online STTP on BUILDING

INFORMATION AND MODELLING” on 31.11.2020 – 05.12.2020 conducted by QIS

College of Engineering and Technology, Andhra Pradesh.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES FROM JULY TO SEPTEMBER 2020

The Department of Civil Engineering in association with Institution of Engineers (IEI)

and Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) organized a International Guest Lecture

on “Challenges Faced By Civil Engineers In Construction Field” on 25.9.2020 at 7.00 P.M

to8.30 P.M through Zoom Platform. Around 70 participants were participated for this guest

lecture. The Guest speaker is PG alumni 2016 batch Mr.T.H.PRAVEEN KUMAR, Project

Engineer, Abdul Khaliq Building Contracting LLC, Sharajah, UAE.

National highway Authority of India collaborated with our college by providing

In-plant training for our students in their upcoming project in NH-45 Tambaram-

Tindivanam.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES FROM APRIL TO JUNE 2020

The Department of Civil Engineering in association with the Institution of

Engineers(I) and Indian Society for Technical Education organized five days online

Faculty Development Programme (FDP) “Foundation Engineering, Fluid Mechanics and

Structural Design for Civil Engineers” during 11.05.2020 to 15.05.2020. Around 70

participants attended the online Faculty Development Programme from various

Institutions all over India.

The Department of Civil Engineering has conducted a talent hunting program

“Skillerz’20” for 12th and Polytechnic Students. We have conducted various events like quiz,

memes, video making, aspirant building and speak through art. Around 78students participated

and E-certificate were given.

Dr.D.Elango, Head of the Department, Department of Civil Engineering has presented a

Webinar titled “Production of Methane Gas and from Municipal Solid Waste Management and

Domestic waste water” in Jerusalem College of Engineering on 05-06-2020.

Dr.D.Elango, Head of the Department, Department of Civil Engineering has presented a

Webinar titled “Municipal Solid Waste Management” in Panimalar Engineering College on 26-

05-2020.

From April to June, 25 faculty members have actively participated in 811Webinars, 48

FDP, 66 Quiz ,7 Conferences, 7 Workshop,2 Training Programme and 4 Expert talk.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF JULY-SEPTEMBER 2019

The Students of third year participated in a ‘Civil Engineering Interview Essentials

Workshop’. A total of 6 students attended the same, conducted by Terzaghi Institute,

Chennai on 21.07.19.

S.Shakespeare and M.Rubesh of Final year was awarded with certification for

Volunteer contribution in organizing 'Mentoring and Orientation session on IIC2.0

and ARIIA 2020' organized by MHRD’s Innovation Cell held at Sri Sai Ram

Engineering College ,Chennai held on 31.07.2017.

Value Added Course was conducted on 'NUMERICAL ANALYSIS USING ANSYS

WORKBENCH' from (30/07/19 to 08/08/19 & 03/08/19, 31/08/19) in our institution.

The course was handled by, Mr.G.R.Iyappan, Assistant Professor (O.G) -Civil and

Mr.A.Sattainathan Sharma, Assistant Professor (O.G) –Civil, Mr.S.Bhuvaneshwari,

Assistant Professor (O.G) –Civil.

Mr.G.Vishwa and Mr.Sudharsannan of Third Year participated in the ‘E-Cell Leader

Workshop’ conducted by CED, Anna University on 01.08.19 & 02.08.19

Students of Final Year Civil were involved in the ‘Preparation of Base Map, Property

and Utility Mapping and Door to Door survey using Geo Spatial Techniques for

Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC)’ on internship basis on the project to collect the

utility data for 150 wards at the cost of 8000 per 2 Sq.m on 13.08.19. The project cost is

12 lakhs.

Technology Workshop’at ACE TECH FEST'19 National Level Technical Symposium

conducted by SRM Easwari Engineering College on 14.08.19.

The students of Final Year UG and PG participated and presented a paper in ‘IEI

Tamilnadu Centenary Technical Conference on Disruptive Technology and its

Application’. A total of 21 students attended the same conducted by IEI, Tamilnadu

from 19.08.19 to 22.08.2019. M.Roshini, a student of PG final year secured the runner

up position for the best paper.

The student of Third Year and Final Year participated in the 'Orientation program on

global study and work opportunities'. A total of 38 students attended the same

conducted by Guru Nanak College, Chennaion 27.08.19.

Advanced Surveying’ held at Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering on 29.08.2019.

Final year students participated and won prizes in a symposium 'SRUJAN'19' on

30.08.19 held at SRM Institute of Science &Technology, Ramapuram. K.V.Kannan and

M.Kalyani Kumar won first and second prize in CAD Contest. T.Lokesh,

M.Kalyanikumar, B.Jayachandran won second prize in Dare to Design events.

(ICSA 2K19)' on 06.09.2019 held at SRM Valliammai Engineering College. For the

same event, K.Muthu Ganesh was awarded first place and T.Manbuselvan third place

(Track3: Mech/Civil).

Department of Civil Engineering has organized a one day National Level Workshop on

'Introduction to Building Information Modeling (BIM) tool (REVIT)'on 02.02.19.

The Guest speaker is Mr.Pradeep, BIM Manager, DE NOVO SOFTWARE SOLUTION.

He demonstrated about the design of building and structure and its components in 3D,

annotate the model with 2D drafting elements and access building information from the

building model’s database.

The Dept of Civil Engineering organized a three day 'Entrepreneurship Awareness

Camp (EAC)' sponsored by the ‘Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India

(EDI) Ahmedabad, NST Entrepreneurship Development Board, DST, Govt. of India,

DST – NIMAT Project 2017 -18 scheme for the Science & Technology and Diploma

students during 11th

to 13th

September 2017. The main objectives of this camp was to

explore the possible business opportunities and create all necessary awareness to start

an SSI Unit as per the Government procedures to the young students of Science &

Technology and Diploma disciplines.

Dept of Civil Engineering, SRM Valliammai Engineering College and Civil Engineers

Association organized CONSTRUO ’17, Sixth 'National Level Technical Symposium'

on 23rd

September 2017, Saturday at Old seminar hall. It was inaugurated by Chief Guest

Colonel P.Nallathambi, M.E., MBA., MCA., F.I.E., F.I.V., Principal Structural

Consultant, Sakthi Consultancy Pvt. Ltd., Chennai. In the Inaugural address chief guest

motivated the students by sharing his experience in challenging road construction and

Border line construction in Indian military. He also highlighted the evolution of Civil

Engineering from the past to the current trend. This inaugural function was presided by

Dr.D.Elango, Head of the Department. Technical events like Paper Presentation, Poster

Presentation, Technical quiz, CADD Quest, Model making and non-technical events like

Ship Wreck, Minute to Win, Connection and Surprise Event were conducted. Around 75

technical papers were received, out of which 30 papers were selected for presentation.

Totally 150 Students from various Engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu attended the

symposium. The best performers were awarded with cash prizes in the valedictory

function.

CONSTRUO‟17 National Level Technical Symposium

The Dept Of Civil Engineering organized a Guest Lecture on the 'Applications Of

Geology In Civil Engineering' on 26.9.17 for the second year Civil Engineering

students in which DR. T. Magendran, Geologist, Public Works Department-WRD,

Taramani was the Guest Speaker.

design and structural dynamics’ inaugurated by Dr.A.Boominathan, Geotechnical

Engineering Design, IIT Madras. This inaugural function was presided by

Dr.T.P.Ganesan, Director/VEC, and was also addressed by the Principal

Dr.B.Chidambararajan and the Vice Principal Dr.M.Murugan.

The Dept of Civil Engineering organized a Guest Lecture on 2nd March 2017. The

Guest Speaker was Jayasree Sridhar, Chief Consultant & IELTS Trainer. She delivered

a lecture and gave anawareness to the students about ‘Higher Studies Abroad’.

The Dept of Civil Engineering organized a Guest Lecture on 22nd March 2017. The

Guest Speaker was Dr.K.Palanivelu, Director, Centre for climate change and Adaptive

Research, Anna University, Chennai. He delivered a lecture on the ‘Impact on climate

change’.
