The academic year 2013-2014 has brought many accomplishments and also

Against this background let me present the 62nd college day report.
ADMISSIONS
The College reopened on 20th June 2013. With the introduction of PG course in
Physics, the number of courses has risen to 18 UG courses and 7 PG courses. The
student strength as on date is 2635 with 632 students residing in the hostel. 881
students have received scholarship to the tune of Rs.28, 21,679/-. The college received
Rs.19, 60,000/- as grant from UGC. 13 new teaching staff are appointed in the aided
stream.
The College Union and its affiliated clubs had its formal inauguration by
Dr.M.Padmanaban, Course Director, Anna IAS Coaching Academy, Bharathiar University,
Coimbatore, on 16th July 2013.
Distinguished Persons were invited from all walks of life to deliver lectures,
motivational talks and inspiring speeches. This is done to infuse in the students a sense
of leadership and social commitment and elevate themselves to empowered individuals.

RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT & COLLABORATION
Research Development & Collaboration Centre is setup on January 07, 2014 with Dr.J.Manjula, our former Principal as Director. The Centre has entered into International Letter of Understanding with University of Louisville, Kentucky.
The Centre coaches students for TOFEL & GRE.
Steps are being taken to enter into collaboration with Maitreyi - The Vedic Village to offer Study India Aid Programme to the International Scholars, especially staff and students of University of Louisville, Stevenson College, Baltimore.
TIE-UPS AND MoU’s
To develop the Entrepreneurial Skill, the Department of History has a tie up with Travel Management Institute, Coimbatore and offered a Certificate Course in “International Airlines, Travel & Tourism” for the final year students of History, Economics and Literature.
An MoU was signed between our college and Sri Paranjothi Institute of
Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, Thirumoorthy hills, to promote the employable
skills of the students in the “Retail Trade” certified by National Skill
Development Corporation. 1000 students benefited out of the programme.
ENHANCEMENT OF LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
As an important step in the direction of Quality enhancement the Learning management
System software “MOODLE” was installed.
An orientation on “Moodle”, was given to the staff members and students by
Ms. Sujatha, Assistant Professor,PSGIM ,Coimbatore and her team of staff.
ESTABLISHMENT OF ED CELL
An amount of Rs 1 lakh was sanctioned by Entrepreneurship Development
Institute(Department of MSME, Government of Tamilnadu),Chennai for setting up of
Entrepreneurship Development Cell in our college. This was initiated in the month of
Dr.Tamizpavai, Associate Professor of Tamil presented a research article on
“Bharathiyum Penmaiyum” on 17.10.2013 at Thailand, Bangkok, in a programe
organized by Bharathiyar Sangam, Chennai.

Dr.(Mrs) K.Punithavalli, Head of the Department of the Commerce delivered
inaugural address on Ecopreneurship in the seminar on Ecopreneurship at
Vidyasagar College, Udumalept on26.2.2014.
Dr.R.Meera & Mrs.V.K.Saraswathi acted as Chairpersons in the National
Seminar on ‘The Charismatic past of Ancient Kongu with Special reference to
Tamil Classical period (Upto 6th Century A.D) sponsored by Central Institute of
Classical Tamil ( CICT) and Ministry of Human Resource Development Govt. of
India, at N.G.M. College Pollachi on 29.08.2013.
Dr.D.Anusya Associate Professor, Dept of English chaired the Valedictory
Session- for the seminar on Eco- Criticism & Eco -Feminism at Arulmigu Palani
Andavar College, Palani on 07.02.2014. She was a Resource Person – for the
Personality Development programme at STC College on 05.03.2014.
Dr.P.Renuga Associate Professor of English gave a guest lecture on “Effective
Guidelines for Research”-at S.T.C College, Pollachi on 28.11.2013 and a lecture on
“Communicate to Conquer” at NGM College, Pollachi on 28.01.2014.
Dr.(Mrs) N.Lakshmi Associate Professor of Commerce was the Chief Guest for
COGNITION 13 organised by Department of Commerce(CA), Vidyasagar College
of Arts and Science, Udumalpet on 06.08.2013. she also addressed on Wealth
Management in the Inaugural Function of India Nivesh Securities Pvt. Ltd on
21st July, 2012.
Mrs.P.Karpagavalli chaired a session in the International Seminar on
“Nonviolence and Peace Education” organized by Shridhar University, Pilani,
Rajasthan.

Members of faculty also act as inter departmental resource persons within the
college.
Faculty also has been updating themselves by attending refresher and
orientation course, for career advancement.
Faculty of the college has also been actively involving as members of Inspection
Commissions and Board of Studies of University and other autonomous colleges.
OUR STUDENTS EXCEL:
Arivumathi of II M.A Economics bagged the first prize of Rs.1,500 worth of books
in the essay writing competition conducted by P.S.G College of Arts and Science,
Coimbatore in collaboration with Malcolm & Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust, Chennai
P.M.Anitha of II M.A Economics attended the one week National Integration
Camp organized by Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi & NYP at Andaman &
Nicobar Islands.
M. Pradeepa of I B.A Economics with Logistics and Freight Management got first
prize in the Elocution Competition conducted by P.S.G Arts & Science College,
Coimbatore in collaboration with Malcolm & Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust,
Chennai.
M. Pradeepa and M. Indhirani of I B.A. Economics with Logistics & Freight
Managemnt participated in the Vision Tamil Nadu 2023 Oratorical Competition
organized by the Government of Tamil Nadu on 16.02.2014 and were awarded
the best orator certificate.
A.Kalaiarasi & A.Pairoja, PG Students of Department of History participated in
the CICT sponsored National Seminar on ‘The Charismatic Past of Ancient Kongu
with Special Reference to the Tamil Classical Period held at NGM College Pollachi
from 29 to 31 Aug 2013.and won the BEST REPORT Award.
R.Mahalakshmi of I M.A.History got I Prize in Drawing Competition in the World
Tourism day organized by APA college of Arts and culture – Palani on 27.9.13
and A.Pairoja of II M.A.History got I Prize in Essay competition.

Mathematics won the first prize in Paper presentation, Math Sketching, Poster
presentation, Drawing, Eloqution competitions conducted by P.K.R Arts college
for Women(SIGMA).
S.Deivanayaki,J.P.Thempaavai and M.Carmel of I M.Sc &III B.Sc Mathematics
Mathematics won the second prize in quiz competition conducted by PSGR
Krishnammal College for Women.
R.Lavanya and D.Kiruthika of III B.sc Mathematics won the first prize in Paper
presentation, Math Sketching, Poster presentation, conducted by Gandhigram
Rural Institute in Integration 2014.
A Zonal Level Robotics Workshop on “iSENSOBOTZ on Arduino” in association
with HELIOS-IIT, Bombay, ARK Technosolutions was organized on 23rd & 24th
January 2014 in our college and three top teams were selected for the final
championship to be held at IIT, Bombay in the month of March. One of the teams
came up to semi final out of 325 colleges from all over India.
Students of Commerce won 1st place in Adzap and 2nd place in Mock Parliament
in the competitions conducted in Saraswathi Thiagaraja College, Pollachi.
C N.Kalaiarasi , M.Phil scholar in commerce bagged the eighth position in the
elocution competition on Tamilnadu Vision- 2023 out of 420 students and
awarded Rs.6666 cash prize conducted by Tamilnadu Government at Krishna
College, Coimbatore.
S. Brindha Bharathi of I B.A Economics has secured second prize in oratorical
competition conducted by Wild Life Week Celebrations on October 20, 2013.
Our students participated in the Inter- collegiate competitions arranged by the
Forest Department on 17.10.2013 and bagged all the three prizes in the
Oratorical, Essay and Drawing competitions.
A group of 22 students from Department of English participated in the ‘Inter
Collegiate competitions held at PKR Arts College for Women, Gobichettipalayam
on 07.08.2013. The students won I, II & III Prizes in Painting, Poem Writing, Add
Zap, Music, Enactment and Freeze Zone.

Students of Department of English participated in the inter-collegiate
competitions ‘Pegasus’ organised by the Kongu Arts College Erode on 27.09.2013
and bagged the I, II & III prizes in the Debate, Poster Presentation, Translation,
Mime and Quiz, competitions. 12 of our III B.A Literature students participated in
the inter-collegiate student seminar held at APA College, Palani on 27.09.2013
and presented papers on Diasporic writings and received over all shield for the
highest presentation.
A group of 18 students participated in the inter-collegiate competitions held at
PSG College of Arts and Science College, Coimbatore on 03.10.2013. I Literature
students T.Shiny Karunya andG.Subhashini won the Second Prize in Debate.
54 students attended- Android Application Development at Amritha Vishwa
Vidya Peetham on 08.03.2014.
Students of B.Com (CA) and B.Com participated in the Intercollegiate
competitions conducted at SNR college, Coimbatore and won the runners trophy
for the best performance.
On 18th January R.M.Janani III B.A. English Literature participated in Thiyagaraja
Mahotsavam at Thiruvayyaru. She was given 10 minutes to perform.
CULTURAL AND VALUE ORIENTED ACTIVITIES
For the first time in the annals of G.V.G the festival of Tamilians “PONGAL” was
celebrated and rejoiced by the students and faculty on 17th January, 2014.
In commemoration of the 150th Birth year of Swami Vivekanandar the college
conducted oratorical competition, group discussion, role play on delivery of
speeches by people associated with Vivekananda Kendralaya on 24th June 2013,
30th Dec..2013 & 20th Jan,2014. 55 students of our college from various
departments attended a four day “Youth Camp” conducted by Vivekananda
Kendra, Kanyakumari at Kathir Engineering College, Nelampur, Coimbatore
between Aug 8th and 11th 2013. Another 24 students and two faculty members
attended the camp at Kanniyakumari for four days from 27/02/2014 to
02/03/2014.

Special programmes on Human Value Development were conducted on 6.7.2013,
14.12.2013 and on 11.1.2014 by the Sathya Sai organizations, under value
Education. Nearly 800 students received ‘deeksha’ from Mahraishi Param
Jothiar of Universal Peace Foundation and they were initiated to the first level of
Meditation.
CULTURAL EXCELLENCE
An intercollegiate cultural competition “BHARATHI KALAI VIZHA” was organized
at Bharathiar University from 11/12/2013 to 13/12/2013.More than 50 colleges
participated. Our students participated in all competitions, won number of prizes
and bagged the overall shield.
Malabar gold and diamonds and people-5 Ads and events management jointly
oraganised a programme “Pengal Thiruvizha” at pollachi on 18-8-2013.
Our student participated in various competitions and won several prizes.
ACHIEVEMENT IN SPORTS & N.C.C.
S. Kavinilavu of I BCA was selected to represent Indian team to participate in
Indo-Srilanka Throwball Championship held at Bangalore from 7th Oct – 10th
October, 2013 and bagged the first position at International level.
J. Archana of III B. Com, R. Yogapriya of I B. Com & S. Kavinilavu of I BCA were
selected to represent Tamilnadu state to participate in National level Throw ball
Championship held at Dhanbad, Jharkhand state from 4th Nov – 11th Nov, 2013
and bagged III position at national level.
Our college throwball team participated in National level Inter collegiate
throwball tournament organized by MOP Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai
and secured winner’s trophy.
J. Archana of III B.Com, R. Yogapriya of I B.Com and B. Lavanya of I B.Sc
Computer Science were selected to represent Tamilnadu state to participate in
National level Throwball Championship held at Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh.

II B.A. Literature participated in Chief Minister’s Trophy in Shuttle Badminton
Singles held at Tirupur on 20th Oct, 2013 and secured I, II & III position with the
cash award of Rs.1000/-, Rs.750/- & Rs. 500/- respectively.
K. Kaleeswari of I B.Sc Computer Science, M. Punitha of I.B.Sc Physics &
R. Thenmozhi of II B.Sc IT participated in Chief Minister’s District level Table
Tennis Tournament held at Tirupur on 20th Oct, 2013 and bagged I, II & III
position with the cash award of Rs.1000/-, Rs.750/- & Rs. 500/- respectively.
K. Kaleeswari of I B.Sc Computer Science, M. Punitha of I.B.Sc Physics
participated in District level Table tennis open tournament for both singles and
doubles held at Tirupur on 8th November, 2013 and secured first position in both
the competitions.
Our college Badminton team participated in District level shuttle badminton
tournament for women for both Singles and Doubles held at Tirupur and R.
Lavanya of III B.Sc Maths secured I position in Singles with cash award of
Rs.1000/- & R. Lavanya & S. M. Indhuja of I B. A. Literature bagged I position in
Doubles with the cash award of Rs.500/- each.
V. Kalaivani and D. Suganya of II B.Sc Zoology participated in District level
silabam Championship held at Tirupur on 30th November, 2013 and secured I &
II position respectively.
NCC
Our cadet S. Sri Gayathri of II B.Sc (IT) attended the adventure course at
Nehru Institute of Mountaineering at Uttarkashi from 01.06.2013 to
15.06.2013 and she was awarded “A” grade.
Two of our cadets S. Gokulanayagam II B.B.M (C.A), V. Priya II- B.Sc (CS),
attended the THAL SAINIK CAMP held at New Delhi from 27.09.2013 to
08.10.2013.
cadet D. Santhi of II B.B.M(C.A) attended the NCC National level Kabaddi
tournament held at New Delhi from 12.10.2013 to 30.10.2013

College, Madurai from 4.11.2013 to 13.11.2013.
cadet V. Karthika of II B.B.M. (CA) attended Inter Group Competition Camp
held at Yadava College, Madurai from 28.09.2013 to 07.10.2013 and secured
second position.
BOOK FAIR
Library Committee arranged for a Book Fair from 18.12.13 to 22.12.13. More than 3000
titles on Tamil, English, Science, Spiritual, Health, Cookery, Astrology and Children’s
classics were exhibited. There was an amazing and over whelming response from
students and members of the public.
CAREER GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING CELL
The College guidance and counseling cell helps to identify and develop the
interests and aptitude of students by arranging personality development
progammes, classes in communicative skills, soft skills by eminent trainers and
faculty within the college.
This current academic year the cell has achieved a remarkable target of placing
516 students in various companies like TCS,CTS, Canara bank, Hero industrial,
NIFTEA, Wipro, AEE-BEE, Dicom, Abile Technology, Opensource Academy, VS
tools, I-Tech Software solutions and Techs pine solutions.
The collectorate of Tirupur conducted a Job fair in our campus on January 4,
2014 for candidates who completed +2. Nearly 30 companies’ participated and
600 candidates were placed in and around Tirupur District.
WOMEN STUDIES CENTRE
Women’s studies centre organized an awareness programme on “The
importance of Millets” on 26.09.2013, Where in
Special speech on the importance of Millets was addressed by Mrs.E.Anandhi,
Adhi surya foods, Pollachi. Our students participated in various competitions
like pencil sketching, Kavithai, Instant cooking, Drawing and were awarded
with prizes.

Women’s Studies centre and Road Safety Department jointly organized a meeting
on Road Safety measures on 31.01.2014.Various Competitions like Skit, Mime
Show, & Oratorical Competitions was conducted to create awareness. More than
seven Colleges participated. Our students won the Overall Shield.
National Voter’s Day Celebrations was organized on 10.02.2014 and Voter’s day
Pledge was administered to make the students realize the importance of casting
vote. Oratorical competition, Kavithai and Essay Competitions were conducted in
this context.
Women’s Studies Centre and Puthagalayam of Udumalpet jointly arranged a
special Seminar on the topic “ Vasippai Nesippom “ on 18.02.2014 with the
reputed public speaker & Jounalist Thiru.Madukkur Ramalingam, as the guest
speaker.
Tailoring, Music and Hindi class are offered as Regular Programme by the centre.
A Beauty parlour has been set up in our college campus for the benefit of our students.
Awareness Programme on “Innovating for Girls Education” was organized on
28.10.2013. Competitions like Poster Presentation and Pencil Sketch were
conducted and Prizes distributed to the participants.
International Women’s Day was celebrated with a special lecture on Women
leadership by Rani Gunasekaran, Zonal officer, Dept. of Income Tax, Coimbatore.
It was followed by cultural activities on the theme of women empowerment.
SOCIETAL CONSCIOUSNESS AND PARTICIPATION:
GVG sent aid for Flood Victims. Students of G.V.G helped the Uttarkand victims by
raising a sum of Rs.31,500/- through P.G.Orientation Club on 06.08.2013
K. Anitha of II M.A Economics has got Indira Gandhi Scholarship for single girl child from UGC and she voluntarily accepted to pay the semester fees for one student of Economics.
S. Kalaivani of I M.A Economics and R. Nivetha of II B.A Economics are selected
and recognized as campus Ambassadors of our college, by the Collectorate of
Tirupur District for Election 2014.

Dr. S. Sundari Bai and Dr.P.Geetha have been adjudged as Best Coordinators by
the Udumalpet Traffic Police, during 25th Road Safety Awareness Week
Celebrations 2014.
As a recognition of the activities of Consumer Awareness Club a cash award of Rs.2500 was given by Tiruppur collectorate in relation to consumer’s day celebrations.
NSS
Our College NSS has got 6 units consisting of 614 students, 6 Programme officers and 6
co-opted members. Anti Tobacco Programme is an ongoing activity of our College NSS
units which is carried out in Ganapathipalayam Village. Medical camp to identify
smokers and for General Health Check up, Eye Camp ,Anti Tobacco Rally, National
voters awareness rally , serving as volunteers in road safety Rally organized by RTO
were the various significant activities of the year. The NSS special camp was organised
at Ganapathipalayam with 200 students from 11th August , 2013 to 17th August , 2013.
RRC
236 volunteers are enrolled in RRC. They actively participated in AIDS awareness
programme, Blood donation awareness programme and Road safety awareness
programmes.
YRC
220 students have enrolled in YRC. Several meetings were organized to enlighten the
history and importance of YRC in the world wide and India.
The volunteers conducted a programme by themselves on
Cancer awareness
Yoga and Meditation
And Organ donation

Extension Activities
Various awareness programmes on Food habits, health and hygiene, Sanitation,
Environmental Pollution, Moral values, General Awareness, Self Discipline, Child
labour, Cleanliness,Tree Plantation, Smoking and its effects were conducted in
the adopted village.
The school children in the adopted village were taught basic mathematics,
grammar, basic science, self discipline, computer basics, functioning of our
organs, Yoga, use of internet, importance of postal service, Sudoku solving, Basic
abbreviations, General Knowledge, Riddles and use of Medicinal Plants . Science
day was celebrated by all the Science departments by preparing models and
exhibiting them to the school children . Above 350 School Children with their
staff members visited the exhibition
Our Management
It is the greatest blessings of the founder and the destiny of the institution that
the college is under the able captainship of young, energetic, innovative and far sighted
lady, the female heir our founder; who works with poise and passion to fulfill the vision
of her great grandfather. We place on record our gratitude and loyalty to the
magnanimous management for all their support.

contemporary facilities.
I am sure that these and more would be definitely be achieved with the co-ordinated
efforts of faculty both teaching and non-teaching. My appreciation to them.
Our students are always cheerfully remembered with pride in our hearts for they
are the gems who have with their brilliance dazzled our lives both within and without.
