Sree Narayana Guru College, Chelannur, is situated at the

foot of the towering Kalari Hills,in a quiet village about 14

Kilometres in the north-east direction from Kozhikode. The college

has a serene and extensive campus of about 67 acres, by the side of

Kozhikode-Balussery Road, noted for its scenic beauty and blessed

with the natural spring water fountain in the south-east location.

The institution has been catering to the academic needs and

aspirations of the pupils in and around Chelannur for more than four

decades.

The foundation stone of the college building was laid in

February 1968 by Dr. T. Balakrishnan. The formal inauguration of the

commencement of classes took place in June 1968 with Sri. R.

Sankar, the Founder Secretary of the S.N. Trusts engaging the first

Pre-Degree class. In 1975, with the beginning of under graduate

courses in Botany and Commerce, the college was elevated to the

status of a degree college. It became a venue for Post Graduate

Studies with the commencement of M.Com degree course in 1995

and MA (English) Degree course in 1999. In March 2007, the college

was accredited by the NAAC at the level of B+ grade and re-

accredited by the NAAC at the level of B++ grade in October 2016.

At present the college is one of the prestigious institutions of

higher learning run by S.N.Trusts, Kollam. It is managed by the

executive committee of the S.N. Trusts with Sri. Vellappally Natesan

as the manager. The Regional Development Committee, Calicut,

assists the Trusts in the management and developmental activities

of the college. The Principal is the Ex-officio member of the Regional

Development Committee.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE



It was His Holiness Narayana Guru’s call to seek “liberation

through education” which inspired the distinguished citizens of this

backward area to start a new college. The basic objective of the

institution is to provide education to the marginalised sections of the

society. The college stands for the academic excellence as well as the

development of the skill and character of students based on the Holy

Guru’s perspectives on humanism, secularism and universal

brotherhood.

The motto of the college is ‘Enlightenment through

Education’ and it endeavours to mould a community of students

committed to the pursuit of truth and moral excellence, upholding

the high ideals of Sree Narayana Guru, our Patron. We aim at

building up a humane and socially committed fraternity of young

men and women by the upliftment of the downtrodden masses

through education.

Our institution is a major centre for higher education

offering educational opportunities to the rural community. A

sizeable number of our former students have been placed in coveted

positions in India and abroad which has contributed to the general

development of the area. Majority of the students of our college

belong to the backward classes with 70 - 80% comprising girls. The

institution is striving to achieve the goal of equal access and equal

opportunity in all walks of life.

1. It should be the earnest endeavour of every student to concentrate on studies and to keep our tradition by cultivating noble ideals of life and conduct including regularity and punctuality in attending classes and sheer hard work and perseverance.

2. Every student is expected to greet the teachers respectfully when they meet them.

3. Students are expected to be courteous, decent, cultured and pleasing in words and deeds, inside and outside the college.

4. Students are required to be neatly and suitably dressed in the class and on the college premises. Coloured dhotis should not be used. Boys shall not tuck up their dhoti while they are in the campus.

5. In the interest of the institution and for the sake of discipline, the Principal is entitled to refuse admission to any student.

6. The Principal is the disciplinary authority entitled to suspend, dismiss or take any other punitive action on the misconduct of the students.

Misconduct shall include

a) Staying away from classes without sufficient reason.

b) Disrespectful behaviour towards the staff.

c) Disorderly behaviour in the campus.

d) Organizing tours without the permission of the Principal.

7. No person from outside is allowed to organize meeting or meet students in group inside the college campus.

8. No notice /pamphlets or petition of any kind shall be circulated among the students without the permission from the Principal.

9. Smoking, chewing, consumption of alcholic drinks, use of narcotic drugs, snuffing and other unwholesome practices are strictly prohibited in the campus.

DISCIPLINARY RULES OF THE COLLEGE



10. At the first bell, before each session, students shall take their seats in the class. They shall rise when the teacher enters the class and remain standing till he/she directs them to sit down.

11. Every student shall aim at such behaviour in the class room as shall not disturb the work of the class or any other work.

12. No student shall leave the class room without the permission of the teacher.

13. Mobile Phones are strictly prohibited in the college campus and class rooms, Library and laboratory offenders will be levied with fine and mobile phones will be confiscated.

14. Students are expected to make as little noise as possible in moving about and they are not allowed to stand or move about the verandah or do any thing which might disturb the classes during the class hour. Students who may have no class to attend shall go to the library.

15. Students shall handle all college property with care. They are expected to do whatever they can to protect and promote the beauty and dignity of the college. Students shall switch off light and fan when not in use. Students shall not waste and misuse drinking water.

16. Students are forbidden to write or make any mark on the walls or furniture.

17. No meeting of any kind shall be held in the college without the written permission of the Principal.

18. Malpractice and indiscipline in exams and test papers will be severely dealt with and punishment might amount to expulsion from the college.

19. The Principal reserves the right to frame, interpret and enforce rules governing the conduct of students as and when found necessary.

20. Irregular attendance, insubordination to teachers, indifference in class, habitual mischief making, obscenity in deeds or words are sufficient reason for suspension or dismissal of a student from the college.



21. Political Activities Banned

a. Political activities are strictly prohibited in the college campus. As per High Court Order on writ appeal No.535/2003 and judgement on review petition dated 20 February 2004, all strikes, demonstrations, agitations, dharnas, gheraoes and the like are banned in the college campus.

Students who violate the above rules are liable to be dismissed from the college. Therefore, students shall keep away from all sorts of agitations like strike, disturbing classes, taking out processions, uttering slogans etc, in the college premises.

b. Students shall not bring flags, placards, leaflets, pamphlets, notice boards, banners, posters, or any pubilicity material of the political parties or students organisations to the campus.

c. No flags or banners of the political parties shall be hoisted in the college campus. Students who resort to strike are prohibited from entering the college compound, verandah of the college and classrooms.

d. No external involvement will be allowed in the affairs of the college.

22. Students shall not indulge in ragging or in any other activities causing harassment or difficulties to the fellow students in the college. Any student involving in ragging activities will have to face penal proceedings in accordance with the provisions in the Ragging Prohibition Act of the Government of Kerala.

A choice based credit semester system and grading have been

introduced for the UG curriculum in affiliated colleges of the University

with effect from 2009 admission. The curriculum restructuring

envisages a thorough revamp of the existing one in concept, structure,

content, spirit and methodology. The three governing principles are

greater emphasis in methodology, interdiscplinary and academic

freedom. The structure of an undergraduate programme comprises

ten common courses, core courses (including two methodology

courses informatics, an elective and a project) complementary

courses, audit courses and an open course. The entire course of study

and examination are known as programme (traditionally referred to as

course) and the duration of a programme shall be six semesters in a

period of 3 years. A semester is a sequence of 18 academic weeks of

five working days each. It will have a minimum of 90 working days

including examinations.

The measure of the weekly unit of work assigned for the

course is known as the credit of the course. It is the index of the total

number of teaching hours attended by the student. Usually 18 hours of

class room teaching activity would make the student gain a credit.

Extra credit is the additional credits acquired by the student for co-

curricular activities.

CHOICE BASED CREDIT SEMESTER SYSTEM (CUCBCSS)

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

1. Student shall be admitted into undergraduate programme under

faculties of Science, Humanities, Language & Literature,

Commerce & Management, Fine arts and Journalism and such

other faculties constituted by the university from time to time.

2. Duration: The duration of an under graduate programme shall be

6 semesters distributed in a period of 3 academic years. The odd

semester (1,3,5) shall be from June to October and the even

semester (2,4,6) shall be from November to March. Each semester

shall have 90 working days inclusive of all examinations.

3. Courses : The under graduate programme shall include four types

of courses, viz, Common course (code A), Core courses (code B),



Complementary courses (code C), Open courses (code D). The

minimum number of courses required for completion of an under

graduate programme may vary from 30 to 40 depending on the

credits assigned to different courses.

4. Course Code: Each course shall have an alphanumeric code

number, which includes abbreviation of the subject in three

letters, the semester number (1 to 6) in which the course is

offered, the code of course (A to D) and the serial number of the

course (01,02, ......). Course code will be centrally generated by the

university. A particular complementary / open course should have

same code with same credit even though it is offered for different

programmes. For example: ENG2A03 represents common course

of serial number 03 offered in the second semester and PHY2B02

representing second semester core course 2 in Physics

programme.

5. Core courses: Core course are the courses in the major (Core)

subject of the degree programme chosen by the student. Core

courses are offered by the parent department. The number of core

course varies from 10 to 18 including a project work.

6. Complementary courses: Complementary courses cover one or

two disciplines that are related to the core subject and are

distributed in the first four semesters.

7. Open courses: There shall be one open course in core subjects in

the fifth semester. The open course shall be open to all the

students in the institution except the students in the parent

discipline. (They can choose an open course from a different

discipline). Each department/discipline can decide the open

course from a pool of three courses offered by the university.

8. Credits: Each course shall have certain credits. For passing the

degree programme the student shall be required to achieve a

minimum of 120 credits of which 38 (22 from common (English)

courses +16 for common languages other than English) credits

shall be from common courses, a minimum of 2 credits for project



and 3 credits for the open course. (in the case of LRP Programmes

14 credits for common courses, 8 credits for Additional Language

courses and 16 credits of General courses.) Minimum credits

required for Core, Complementary and Open courses put together

are 82. However the credits to be set apart for the core and

complementary courses shall be decided by the faculty concerned.

The maximum credits for a course shall not exceed 5 honours and

dual core programmes are having separate credits distribution.

9. Attendance: A student shall be permitted to appear for the

semester examination, only if he/she secures not less than 75%

attendance in each semester. Attendance shall be maintained by

the concerned Department. Condonation of shortage of

attendance to a maximum of 9 days in a semester subject to a

maximum of four times during the whole period of a Degree

Programme may be granted by the university.

Benefits of attendance may be granted to students who

attend the approved activities of college/university with prior

concurrence of the head of the institution. Participation in such

activities may be treated as presence in lieu of their absence on

production of participation/attendance certificate in curricular/

extra curricular activities. It should be limited to 9 days in a

semester. The condonation of the shortage of attendance shall be

granted according to the existing prescribed norms.

If a student registered in first semester of the UG degree

programme is continuously absent from the classes for more

than 14 working days at the beginning of the semester without

informing the authorities the matter shall immediately be

brought to the notice of the registrar of the university. The name

of such students shall be removed from the rolls.

Admission to repeat courses should be within the sanctioned

strength. However if more candidates are there, the candidates

who have suffered serious health problems, on production of

medical certificate issued by a physician not below the rank of a



Civil Surgeon in Government Service, may be permitted to repeat

the course, with a written order issued by the Registrar, Calicut

University (By considering his/her SGPA/CGPA and percentage of

attendance). The number of such candidates should not exceed

two.

10. Grace marks: Grace marks may be awarded to a student for

meritorious achievements in curricular activities (in Sports/

Arts/NSS/NCC Student Entrepreneurship) carried out besides the

regular class hours. Such a benefit is applicable and limited to a

maximum of 8 courses in an academic year spreading over two

semesters. No credit shall be assigned for such activities.

11. Project: Every student of UG degree programme shall have to work

on a project of not less than 2 credits under the supervision of a

faculty member as per the curriculum.

12. Extension Activities : Compulsory social service (CSS) for a period

of 15 days is essential for the successful completion of a UG

programme.

EXAMINATION

sThere shall be university examinations at the end of each

semester.

sPractical examinations shall be conducted by the University at the

end of fourth and sixth semesters.

sExternal Viva Voce, if any, shall be conducted along with the

practical examination/Project evaluation.

Evaluation and Grading:

sMark system is followed instead of direct grading for each

question. For each course in the semester letter grade, grade point

and % of marks are introduced in 7 point indirect grading system.

sCourse Evaluation: The evaluation scheme for each course shall

contain two parts (1) Internal Assessment (2) External evaluation.



sInternal Assessment: 20% of the total marks in each course are

for internal examinations. The internal assessment shall be based

on the pre-determined transparent system involving written tests,

assignments/seminars/viva and attendance in respect of the

theory courses.

sComponents with percentage of marks of internal evaluation of

the theory courses are, class room participation based on

attendance - 20%, assignment-20%, Seminar-20% and test paper -

40%. For practical Courses record - 60% and Lab involvement - 40%

as far as internal is concerned.

The internal assessment marks awarded to the students in each course

in a semester shall be notified on the notice board at least one week

before the commencement of external exam. There shall not be a

chance for improvement of the internal marks.

sExternal Evaluation: External evaluation carries 80% of marks.

External evaluation of even (2,4,6)semesters will be conducted in

centralized valuation camps. Answer scripts of odd semester (1,

3and 5) exams will be evaluated by home centralized valuation. All

question papers shall be set by the university.

The external examinations in theory courses is to be

conducted with question paper set by external experts. The

evaluation of the answer script shall be done by examiners based

on a well-defined scheme of valuation and answer keys shall be

provided by the University. The external examination in practical

courses shall be conducted by two examiners one internal and an

external appointed by the University. The project evaluation with

viva can be conducted either internal or external which may be

decided by the BOS concerned. No practical examination will be

conducted in odd semester. Practical examination shall be

conducted in the even semester (II,IV,VI) and as per the decision of

the appropriate academic bodies.

sAfter the external evaluation only marks are to be entered in the

answer scripts. All other calculations, including grading, are done



by the University.

sRevaluation: In the new system of grading revaluation is

permissible. The prevailing rules of revaluation are applicable to

CUCBCSS-UG 2014.

sStudents can apply for photocopies of answer scripts of external

examinations. Application for photocopies/scrutiny/revaluation

should be submitted within 10 days of publication of results. The

fee for this shall be decided by the university.

INDIRECT GRADING SYSTEM

sIndirect grading system: based on a 7 point scale is used to

evaluate the performance of students.

sEach course is evaluated by assigning marks with a letter grade

(A+, A, B, C, D, E or F) to that course by the method of indirect

grading.

sAn aggregate of E grade with 40% marks (after external and

internal put together) is required in each course for a pass and also

for awarding a degree.

sAppearance for Internal Assessment (IA) and End Semester

Evaluation (ESE-external) are compulsory and no grade shall be

awarded to a candidate if she/he is absent for IA/ESE or both. For a

pass in each course, 40% marks or E grade is necessary.

sA student who fails to secure a minimum grade for a pass in a

course is permitted to write the examination along with the next

batch.

sAfter the successful completion of a semester, Semester Grade

Point Average (SGPA) of a student in that semester is calculated

using the formula given below. For the successful completion of a

semester, student should pass all courses. However a student is

permitted to move to the next semester irrespective of SGPA

obtained.

The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of the student is

calculated at the end of a programme. The CGPA of a student

determines the overall academic level of the student in a programme

and is the criterion for ranking the students. CGPA can be calculated

by the following formula.

SGPA & CGPA shall be rounded off to two decimal places. CGPA

determines the broad academic level of the student in a

programme and is the index for ranking students in terms of

grade points in a programme.

Method of Indirect Grading

Evaluation (both internal and external) is carried out using mark

system. The grading on the basis of a total internal and external

marks will be indicated for each course and for each semester and for

the entire programme.

RULES & REGULATIONS

I. ADMISSION

1. Students are not ordinarily admitted except at the beginning of

the first term. Prior sanction from University is required for

admission of students from other colleges in the middle of the

course.

2. Application for admission must be made in the prescribed form

bearing the college seal. The application form can be had from

the college office on payment of Rs.30/- either directly or by

sending Rs 40/- to the Principal by M.O. If the application form is

to be sent by post, a self addressed envelope should be enclosed.

Ability Enhancement courses / Audit courses : These are courses

which are mandatory for a programme but not counted for the

calculation of SGPA or CGPA. There shall be one Audit course each in

the first four semesters of the degree courses. These courses are not

meant for class room study. The students can attain only pass (Grade

P) for these courses. At the end of each semester there shall be

examination conducted by the college from a pool of questions

(Question Bank) set by the University.

3. All candidates who are provisionally selected and called for an

interview with the Principal must produce their SSLC Book,

Transfer and Conduct Certificates from the school or college they

last attended, at the time of their interview.

4. No candidate for admission will be enrolled or allowed to attend

any class until he/she has paid the first instalment of tuition fee

together with Laboratory and other fees and caution money. Fees

once collected will not be refunded. Students are liable to pay

the term fees in case they leave the college after admission.

5. The upper age limit for admission to UG and PG programmes shall

be 21 years and 26 years respectively.

II. IDENTITY CARDS

1. All students admitted to the college shall keep the identity card

with recent passport size photograph duly attested by the

Principal. All payments, issue of certificates etc. will be made to

students only on production of the identity card.

2. Students should strictly wear the Identity card within the college

campus.

3. The students shall produce their identity card as and when the

teachers, office staff and other members of the college service

demand it. Any tampering or disfiguring made on the identity

card will be viewed seriously.

III. FEE REGULATIONS

1. A student seeking admission shall have to pay the prescribed fees

before his name is enrolled. No student shall be enrolled during

the terms unless he has paid all the instalments of the fees

which he would have to pay, had his name been on the rolls from

the beginning of the term.



2. The first instalment of tuition fees shall be paid on the date of

admission together with the special fees and other fees.

3. Each instalment of tuition fees shall be paid on the dates

notified/prescribed. Absence from the college with or without

leave shall not be an excuse for non payment of fees on the

prescribed dates.

4. A receipt signed by the Principal shall be granted for every

payment made, which the student shall preserve and produce

whenever required by the Principal. Mistakes, if any, in the

receipt issued for payment made should be pointed out then and

there and should be corrected. Complaints made later will not be

entertained.

5. Every student shall be liable to pay the prescribed fees for the

whole term, during any part of which his/her name is on the rolls

of the college.

6. All cash transactions will be closed in the office at 2 p.m.

7. The II to VIII instalments of tuition fees shall be paid from the

month of August to February. The last date of payment of fees

without fine shall be the seventh consecutive working day of

each month.

IV. REFUND OF CAUTION MONEY

It shall be the responsibility of the student to claim the refund of

caution deposit paid by him/her for the particular course

immediately after the closing date of the college after the

completion of the course. Those who have failed to claim refund

of caution money before the reopening of the next academic year

following the academic year in which the course is completed or

within the time limit prescribed in the Gazette notification

regarding the refund of caution money of the students of the

college, the amount will be permanently forfeited and the same

will be remitted to government revenue. The student should

keep in safe custody the receipt issued for the remittance of

caution deposit amount, during the tenure of the course. The

caution deposit amount will be returned only if the relevant



receipt issued from the college is produced along with the

application for the refund of the caution deposit.

V. FEE CONCESSION

1 Applicants belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes,

other eligible communities, Kudumbis and Christian Converts

from the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes who are bonafide

subjects of the Kerala State are eligible for full fee concession,

stipend and lumpsum grant. They will have to produce at the time

of admission a certificate of nativity and certificate of

community.

2. Students who are bonafide subjects of Kerala are eligible for full

fee concession provided the income of both their parents or

guardians does not exceed Rs1,00,000/- in the case of admission

to the degree class and post graduate classes.

3. All the particulars required in the income and community

certificate and in the prescribed applications for fee concessions

shall neatly, legibly and correctly be filled in with out leaving any

of the columns blank, and shall be submitted along with the

income certificate.

4. In case the father of the student is not alive and the income

certificate produced in the name of mother, certificate from the

competent authority stating that the father is not alive and that

the mother is the guardian of the student, also has to be

submitted along with the income certificate.

5. In case both the father and mother are not alive, certificate to

that effect shall be produced stating therein the relationship of

the guardian to the students.

6. In case the parent/guardian of the student is an employee in

service of the Government, quasi government/private

establishment, a certificate from the employer concerned along

with the income certificate should be produced. Similarly in the

case of pensioners, a certificate from the competent authority

also shall be produced stating the monthly amount received by

way of pension.



7. Application for fee concession in the prescribed form which is

available from the college office, shall be submitted within two

weeks from the date of admission or commencement of classes

failing which the full fee will have to be paid.

8. Applicants who come under (2) above should produce in addition

to nativity certificate, community and income certificates issued

by Village officer/Tahsildar in the prescribed form. The income of

both the parents must be shown in the form and certified.

9. Nativity certificate has to be obtained from a Revenue Officer.

10. Community certificate obtained from anyone of the following

authorities will be accepted. M. P., MLA, Tahsildar, Deputy

Tahsildar, Revenue Inspector, Vigilance Munsif and the President

of a Punchayat Board. The name of Community should be spelt

exactly in the same way as given in the list issued by the

Government of Kerala.

11. Applications for the fee concessions in the prescribed form

should be produced at the date of admission. If this is not done,

the fees will have to be paid.

12. Applicants who do not produce the necessary certificate at the

time of admission will not be admitted.

NB: Students who discontinue their studies after enjoying

educational concessions are liable to refund all the benefits

enjoyed during the Courses. (Vide letter No. D 9-8349/86 dated

3.6.92 & 8-10487 dt. 7.11.92 of the District Development Officer

for the S.C. Kozhikode).

VI. ATTENDANCE

1. There shall be two sessions a day, one in the forenoon and the

other in the afternoon.

2. Students should be in the class room by 9.25 am before the

prayer.

3. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class. Absence

during one period will be counted as absence for the session.



4. Late comers shall not enter class without the permission of the

teachers. Repeated late coming will be seriously viewed.

5. Leave for single period may be granted by the teacher concerned

at the beginning of the particular period.

6. A student coming late will lose half a day’s attendance, but the

teacher in charge may, if he/she thinks fit, mark the student

present.

7. Repeated absence from the class will be seriously viewed.

8. In the case of absence from any test paper or composition or

other exercise, the paper or exercise missed must be answered

and the answer paper or books should be submitted to the

teacher concerned. Otherwise the student shall not be given

his/her attendance.

9. Each student is expected to keep his/her own record of his/her

attendance. The list of the attendance gained by the students till

the end of every term will be published on the notice board.

Students shall examine the list and report if there is any

discrepancy and also see that they do not fall short of the

minimum percentage of attendance required.

10. The annual certificate of attendance and progress required by

the University for admission to the University examinations will

be granted subject to the following conditions.

(a) The certificate will not be granted unless a student has

completed the course instruction to the satisfaction of the

college authorities, and his/her progress and conduct have been

satisfactory.

(b) The minimum attendance of 75% of the total working days of the

year required for the annual certificate is absolutely necessary

for promotion and for admission to the University examination.

(c) Students whose attendance falls below this minimum shall apply

for exemption through the Principal to the University. The

application for exemption shall be accompanied by a treasury

receipt for ` 100/- The reason for each day’s absence will have to



be explained. In the case of absence on account of illness a

medical certificate also has to be submitted.

(d) No application for the exemption will be recommended by the

Principal unless he/she is satisfied that the shortage of

attendance was due to causes beyond the student’s control.

Ordinarily only prolonged illness will be accepted as the reason

for condoning the shortage of attendance. Absence without

leave letter will not be condoned under any circumstances.

VII. ISSUE OF CERTIFICATES

1. Students applying for any certificate or corresponding with the

Principal must state in their application, all particulars required

for identification viz. full name with initials, class last studied with

class number, admission number, group or batch to which they

belonged, and the year in which they left the college. When reply

by post is desired, a stamped and self addressed envelope must

be enclosed, where the above details are not given a search fee

of 1/-will be levied.

2. A student of past or present desiring to obtain a certificate will

have to apply to the Principal in writing.

3. No certificate will be issued to those who have to clear any dues

to college.

4. No fee will be levied for the issue of Transfer Certificate either at

the time of the student leaving the college or if applied within

one year of his leaving the college after the completion of the

course or discontinuance of studies.

5. A fee of ` 10/- will be levied from those who apply for Transfer

Certificates a year after leaving the college. An additional fee of

25/- will be charged on those who apply for duplicate copy of the

Transfer Certificate. Those who are applying for duplicate

Transfer Certificate shall produce an affidavit signed in the

presence of a first class judicial magistrate in stamp paper worth

50/- stating the Transfer Certificate issued to the student has

been irrecoverably lost.



6. Ordinarily a notice of five days will be necessary for the issue of a

certificate of any kind and will be issued only if the student has

cleared all the dues to the college.

7. Conduct certificate is a document which a student has to earn. It

will not be issued as a matter of course. Normally conduct

certificate will not be issued one year after the student leaves the

college.

8. The pass certificate of the qualifying examination and the mark

list surrendered in the college office at the time of admission to

the college and the mark list of the University examination a

student was presented from this college shall be taken back by

the student within six months of the completion of this course.

The college will own no responsibility for certificates, SSLC Book,

mark lists, Pass certificate etc. if any, retained after six months of

completion of his/her course or his/her discontinuance from

studies.

GENERAL FACILITIES IN THE COLLEGE

I. LIBRARY CUM READING ROOM

1. The General library opens from 9:30 am. to 4:30 pm. on all days

except sundays and public holidays.

2. Books of reference will be issued only from 12:30 pm. to 1:30 pm

and 3:30 pm to 4:15 pm. Students are not permitted to take home

books belonging to the reference section.

3. A student is permitted to borrow, at a time, only two volumes and

these volumes shall not belong to the same section.

4. Books taken out by students shall be returned within 14 days.

Failure to return a book on the due date entails a fine of Rs. 1/- per

day for each volume retained. Sundays and holidays be excluded.

5. A student against whom there is any fine or other outstanding

charge will not be allowed to borrow books.

6. Transfer or sublending of books is strictly prohibited.

7. Marking/underlining in any books, manuscripts or map

belonging to the library is absolutely forbidden.

8. Books which have been borrowed from the library must be

returned forthwith when a requisition is made by the Librarian.

Failure to do so will involve the liability to pay a special fine.

9. When borrowing a book, the student shall bring to the notice of

the librarian, any damage that may be in the book. Otherwise

they will be held responsible for such damage.

10. If a book is lost, the student concerned will have to replace the

book or pay the current price of the book and fine.

11. No paper or periodical lying on the table may be removed from

the reading room or from the place allotted to it.

12. Students are not permitted to remove current number of

periodicals from the room.

13. Loud reading and talking in the reading room are strictly

forbidden.



14. Any loss or damage will have to be compensated by the person

responsible for it.

II. DEPARTMENT LIBRARY

Department Libraries exist at the various departments wherein

the head of the department or the teacher in charge will make

arrangements for the issue and return of books.

III. THE TUTORIAL SYSTEM

With a view to improve the general atmosphere of the college

and to provide opportunities for closer contact between staff and

students, the tutorial system has been introduced in the college.

Each member of the teaching staff will act as a group tutor of 20-

25 students of a class. The tutor keeps himself in touch with the

students and ensures their progress in studies and participation

in curricular, co-curricular, and extra curricular activities. The

tutor will supervise the ward’s progress in studies and conduct,

and through guidance, counseling and persuasive approach, the

tutor endeavours to mould the character and personality of the

students.

Leave will be granted and conduct certificates will be issued to

students only on the recommendation of the group tutor. Every

tutor shall keep a personal diary regarding the conduct, character

and progress of his/her wards.

GYMNASIUM

A Well furnished gymnasium is provided in the campus expecting

to cater the needs of students as well as teachers.

PHYSICAL TRAINING

Facilities for sports and games are provided in the college.

Students are expected to make good use of them to develop a

healthy mind within a healthy body.

SPORTS HOSTELS

Hostel facility is provided for boys as well as girls selected by



Sports Council of Kerala. Students thus selected are given

intensive and systematic coaching in sports and games by expert

coaches of the Kerala State Sports Council.

The Sports Council of Kerala has set up two sports hos tels in

the college, one for men and the other for women, from 1997

onwards. A coach has been appointed by the Sports Authority

of India to give them training in Volleyball.

WOMENS HOSTEL

The College provide well furnished & maintained hostel facility

for women.

COLLEGE EXAMINATIONS.

sAll classes will have two examination one at the end of the first

term and the other at the end of the second term. A University

model exam will also be conducted at the end of each semester.

sIn addition to these general examinations, special test papers will

be given from time to time at the discretion of the Head of the

Department or the teacher handling the subject.

sExemption from attendance at the college exam is granted only

by the Principal. A progress report will be sent to the parent/

guardian after each college exam.

NATIONAL CADET CORPS (N. C. C)

The most important objective of N. C. C is the development of

leadership qualities, character, comradeship, sportsman spirit

and dignity of labour in youth. A sub unit each of the N. C. C Army

(Girls) and Navy (Boys) wing is functioning in the college.

COLLEGE UNION

The students of the college elect a college union from among

themselves every academic year as per University rules. A

Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Fine

Arts Secretary, Student Editor, University Union Councillors, Class

Representatives and Secretaries of various Departmental



Associations are elected. The College Union will organize co-

curricular activities to develop the talents of students. A College

Magazine is published by the College Union at the end of every

academic year.

A Co-operative society is working in the college to meet the

needs of students regarding text books, articles of stationery,

laboratory records etc. All members of the teaching and non-

teaching staff are share holders of the society. Every student shall

pay Rs. 6/- as fee for Associate Membership of the Co-operative

society which shall not be refunded. An elected executive

committee is the governing body of the society.

students with pure drinking water.
