What is Squidoo?

Squidoo was created in 2005 by SethGodin, a marketing guru.

Squidoo gets over 10 million hits a month. When you create a page on Squidoo, it is

called a “Lens”. Each Lens gets its own PageRank from

Google (very important) Each lens has a built in RSS feed (very

important) You can make money from the lens itself

from Squidoo.

According to Seth, he named it thatbecause a Squid’s eyes have “lens” onthem to “view the world.”

So, when you write, its called a Lens

And he added the extra oo at the end,because companies with the oo in theirname have done very well.

The first thing you need to do isRESEARCH what you want to write about.

What do I mean by this?

Search Squidoo for Lens that are similar towhat you want to write about.

Look at what they did, how they arrangedthings and look at their ranking.

Next, go to the Top 100 and look at the Top100 Lens, see what they did to get thatranking.

Gather your resources

You will need your material for your lens,so it is best to have it ready before youwrite your lens.

Welcome to your first lens

Upload a picture! Everyone wants to knowthat you are a real person.

So, click on Introduction, Contents &Discovery Tool… EDIT

Start filling in all the blanks and upload thatpicture!

Go up to the top and click on Table ofContents, turn it on!

Then click on Discovery Tool, and turn it on,but you have to add 3 favorite lens. Alwaysuse ones with high ranks

Once that is done, click on SAVE

Adding modules

In order to have a good lens thatSquidoo likes, you need to have at least5 modules on your lens.

Also, you should update your lens atleast once a week.

What is an update? It could be a newtext module, a new RSS feed, anythingreally.

RSS..add your blog

Okay, next you want to add your blog,this will be an RSS feed.

RSS is Real Simple Syndication, it’s away to get the news out about a pagequickly.

As I said, sign up atwww.pimallblog.com and get your freeWordpress blog. Make sure you title theblog after what you page is about! Orafter your name.

New Text Module

This is where you do your writing.

Give the module a title, subtitle and thenstart writing.

It will tell you when you have written thebasic amount, but be sure to write more.

Don’t write to much, since you can addanother text module with more in it.

And that is a secret, every two or threedays, add a new text module, or a newitem to your lens. This keeps it fresh.

Amazon module

If you want to use the Amazon module,here is where you can configure it.

Remember, that you are sharing any saleswith Squidoo.

Give the module a title, subtitle “Stuff I thinkis cool on Amazon” and then choose whatwill be shown.

You can let Amazon pick or you can.

If you have any products of your own inAmazon, then you want to pick the items.

Next you can add some photo’s fromFlickr.com

Flickr.com is a web 2.0 website that youneed to sign up for in order to show anyphotos.

Now you do not need to use this, but itdoes help.

Any picture can be used, but try to makeit something you can tie to your articles

In this section, you can add a YouTubevideo that is about the subject your aretalking about.

I STRONGLY suggest that you make thevideo!

Now, don’t get nervous, it does not haveto be a video of you, it can be aCamtasia presentation of something

Or it can be a general picture and anaudio recording of you talking.

Here you will add a list of bookmarks tosites that you have and also to othersites about your topic.

Remember Facebook Profiles?? Makesure to use KEYWORDS in your Bio!

Okay, like I said before, Squidoo allowsup to 40 tags

USE ALL OF THEM!!!

Just go to the section on the right handside that says Tags

Next click the down arrow

Now, click on the Add More Tags, andkeep adding until you reach the 40 taglimit.

Now it is time to hit the Publish button!

Once you do this, your lens is ready togo.

Scroll to the bottom and you will seewhere you can send it out on Twitter

And you can also send on Facebook,just click on the link!

Updates

To have a successful lens, you need toupdate the lens.

Or as they say “give it some love”

A good schedule is at least once aweek.

Just add a new text module

A new picture

A new video, anything.

RSS

RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication

It is a way to send out your webpage asa “news” item.

Your Squidoo lens has a built in RSSbox.

Make sure that everytime you updatethe lens, you send out an RSS blast.

I use RSSBot for all of them

PING

Once you have done the RSS update,you need to PING the RSS feed.

If you use RSSbot, like I do, it has thatoption built in.

This is how you get the word out onGoogle about your page.
