Chief Executive Director Blog—Johnnie DeLeon

Zachary Isaacs joined InspirationField as a Residential Program Supervi-sor. Prior to joining InspirationField, Zach attended Otero Junior College, achieving certifications in Information Technology. Using his schooling, he worked at CBR YouthConnect beginning in I.T. By the time Zachary left CBR, he was also managing the data services for the entire organization as well as teaching a vocational class for the at-risk youth and also specializing in compliance and transparency in the organization. He also was concurrently managing his family’s local video store, Uptown Video where he was first put into a supervisory position at age eighteen. After CBR, Zachary became licensed under FINRA and the Securities and Exchange Commission to sell securities and life insurance and helped to build the first domiciled life insur-ance company in Colorado in 37 years, as an Area Manager for Rocky Mountain Capital; manag-ing all of Colorado south of Colorado Springs.

Zachary comes to InspirationField with extensive management and technical knowledge. His enthusiasm for our mission led him to seek to join our team. Zachary brings inspired thinking, leadership, and understanding to our team. His varied history allows for unique thinking that any business could utilize to move them into the future. Welcome Aboard Zach!!

With the upturn in the state economy, I would like to thank the Governor, the Joint Budget Committee, and the Legislature for eliminating the Children's Extensive Ser-vices waiver waitlist during this fiscal year. Also, in the governor's 2014-15 budget, the governor is proposing additional funding for developmental disabilities including 2,040 new resources for Supported Living Services, which would all but eliminate the SLS waiting list. Finally, the governor signed House Bill 14-1051 bill to eliminate the adult wait list for Home and Community Based Services by July 1, 2020. Clearly, the state of Colorado has made a huge commitment to provide funding for this at-risk population and they should be commended.

On a different note, we are approaching one year of occupancy in our new build-ing. On more than one occasion, individuals we support have expressed their grati-tude and absolute love of the new facility. In addition, we have seen an increase in

staff morale, as staff enjoy coming into work in a modern environment. The facility has already been utilized by the community for many events, including: golf tournament banquets, class reunions, wedding recep-tions, statewide conference for Daughters of the American Revolution, Otero County Republican Party, Workforce Center Youth conference, funeral, upcoming Ducks Unlimited banquet, graduation party, and nu-merous other events. To help commemorate one year in the new building, we are hosting a one-year anni-versary celebration in our commons area on Thursday June 5, 2014, from approximately 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Please join us for live entertainment, building tours, brief speakers, hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and drink and door prizes. It promises to be an exciting afternoon. And, THANK YOU to all of our supporters for helping make our dreams come true! Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus………

InspirationField Shares Wayne’s Story

Success is defined by many as obtaining wealth, holding a powerful position or becoming famous. But success in its

simplest form is a desire to achieve and then attain that achievement. The following story tells of the success of Wayne

Valencia. Success that is not finished but ongoing even with impossible odds.

Wayne Valencia was born on June 26, 1969 and grew up in Pueblo,

Colorado. Wayne did live on his own at one time while in Pueblo,

however some concerns prevented him from continuing to do so, and

he was placed in the Pueblo Regional Center. Wayne resided at the

Pueblo Regional Center for one and a half years. On March 23, 2009

Wayne transitioned from the Pueblo Regional Center institution into

InspirationField’s services and supports.

From the moment Wayne was de-institutionalized, his goal was to live

on his own. Wayne lived in a Personal Care Alternative home in Rocky

Ford until February 2012 and then transferred to Prairieview Group

Home in La Junta. These settings gave him the opportunity to work on

skills that would eventually lead him to living independently.

In January of 2014, Wayne was able to move out on his own! Wayne

still continues to need support with daily living skills and the adjustment of living on his own again.

Wayne’s favorite part of living on his own is not having to answer to anyone. He loves the freedom

and having more control over his life. He loves to watch television and enjoys cooking his own meals.

Wayne said, “It was an easy transition to living on my own again and right now I am just loving life.”

Since Wayne first came to InspirationField, he has made a lot of progress with using his coping

skills and making positive decisions. Wayne attends Day Program four days a week in the Learning

Center at InspirationField and also has the opportunity to volunteer in the community.

In 2012, Wayne was nominated for InspirationField’s annual client awards. Wayne won an award

for “Community Service” because of his outgoing service to Meals on Wheels.

Wayne – hats off to you for your hard work and success! We cannot wait to see what your future

successes will include… In addition, a BIG THANK YOU to Wayne’s team for helping Wayne

InspirationField offers Inspiration Trees at New Facility

Give the gift of trees! Celebrate a birthday, anniversary or other special event or commemorate the loss of a friend or family member by giving a gift of trees. By donating an In-spiration tree, you can honor your loved ones while helping InspirationField continue to raise money for landscaping of the new building. Your tree will be a lasting memorial for years to come. Fourteen new trees are available to be pur-chased on the grounds of InspirationField. Each tree has been planted and donors will receive a choice of available tree location. Choice of trees will be based on a first come basis.

InspirationField’s Chief Executive Officer, Johnnie DeLe-on stated “Our Inspiration tree program is a chance to re-member a loved one or celebrate an event and help beautify InspirationField grounds. This is a wonderful honor for individuals to make in someone's name. What better way to remember a loved one while enriching the lives of individu-als and supporting InspirationField’s new building. ”

The cost of the Inspiration tree program is $250 per tree. This includes the tree, concrete, plaque, continued mainte-

nance of the tree (fertilizer, pruning, etc.) and a donation to InspirationField’s new building loan fund. After the tree is chosen, the contact person will receive a certificate and map of the planting lo-cation for each tree. All Memorial trees are property of InspirationField.

Anyone interested in purchasing a memorial tree or for additional information regarding Inspira-tionField’s building fund or services provided, please contact Caitlin Coffield, Community Relations Manager at 719-384-8741, ext. 102.

Adult Services Director Blog - Julia Hoeppner

This has been a busy season for Residential Services and the Recreation Department. We are look-

ing forward to another enjoyable year of keeping individuals involved in the community.

In July, we had Special Olympics Regionals in Colorado Springs, where we took 21 Individuals to

Colorado Springs to participate in Bocce. The Individuals participated in many events from Inspi-

rationField’s Annual Swim party to enjoying the Children’s Theater “Tarzan”.

August brought just as much entertainment

with 8 Individuals attending State Special

Olympics for Bocce in Denver. They attended

many events at the Arkansas Valley Fair from

the Pie Social to the Demolition Derby. We

took 12 Individuals to the Colorado State Fair

and they enjoyed watching Randy Houser in

concert.

In September, the Individuals started their

League bowling every other Sunday and the

last day will be approaching in April of 2014.

We held an end-of-summer BBQ and the Hip

Hopping Dance, along with other events.

In October, the Individuals enjoyed many Halloween events from the Art Parties to the Costume par-

ty. Otero Junior College Nursing Department hosted an Annual Event that they put on at Otero Jun-

ior College for the Individuals that we support. They have hosted this event for many years and we

would like to extend our sincere appreciation for them and this event. We had 26 Individuals attend

the District Bowling Tournament in Special Olympics.

In November the Individuals enjoyed the events surrounding Thanksgiving, by attending the, “Doing

the Turkey Dance”, “Turkey Bingo” and InspirationField’s Annual Thanksgiving Dinner in Las Ani-

mas.

What a time they had in December! The Individuals attended the Annual Dinner. Every one of the

Individuals was able to have a day of Shopping at the local businesses and buy gifts for their loved

ones. We would like to thank the Swink’s Lion’s Club. For over 30 years they have hosted the

Christmas party for the Individuals, and they ensure that each individual has a present and visit

from Santa. They finished off the year by attending the “Hopping into the New Year” dance.

In January, we started the month off with a New Year Luncheon and movie. They all attended the

Winter Freeze Dance, Karaoke and game night.

The month of February started off with a bang as we hosted a Superbowl Party in the commons area,

where the Individuals were able to watch the game on four 135” screens. We sent 18 Individuals and

Staff to attend WWE “Raw” in Colorado Springs. The Individuals also enjoyed attending the Annual

Valentine’s Sweetheart Ball.
