KIALLA CENTRAL PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Page 3
I trust you all enjoyed the extra long weekend. This Friday we are hosting our Kialla Central Primary School House Athletics Carnival. It is a normal school day starting
at 8.50am, our bus and OSHC will operate as per usual. Due to the dry state of our oval, we will be doing our running events at the Kialla West Recreation Reserve. We will start these events at 9.30am and return to Kialla Central by 11.00am. We will have recess and participate in the throwing and jumping events until lunch time. After lunch students will go back to their classrooms. Information about these changes and Parental Permission notes were sent home with the eldest of each family yesterday. Students are encouraged to wear their house colours:
Archer ~ Blue Fairmaid ~ Green Mitchell ~ Yellow
Please remember we are a Sunsmart school so students are not allowed to wear singlets. Broad brimmed hats and sunscreen are compulsory. Parents, carers and families are welcome to attend this event. We may need a couple of helpers for some of our events. Our House Athletics is a great day which all of our students enjoy. It is about having a go and trying your best! On Friday 8th March our staff joined staff from Kialla West for a Curriculum Day based on Reading and Writing presented by Danny Hyndman ~ Education Consultant. We investigated the Readers Workshop and Writers Workshop models which are part of the State Education Plan mandated by the Department. As we are in the first year of our new four year
Strategic Plan, we are able to align our teaching practices more easily with this initiative. So from here, we will be looking at what we are currently doing in our classrooms, what aligns, what doesn’t and put the models into our school context to ensure we have a consistent approach across our school.
On Tuesday, all of our staff, including our Outside School Hours Care team, updated our CPR and Epi-pen training as
mandated by the Department. Some staff are also renewing their first aid qualifications which will continue over the next two Tuesday afternoons. These sessions will not interrupt our OSHC service. Thank you for your cooperation this week. On Monday 18th March is our School Council AGM & general meeting.
Nominations have now closed. This year’s officer bearers and committee members will be announced on Tuesday 19th March in the newsletter.
School Council plays a very important role within a school. Some of its functions include:
establishing the broad direction & vision of the school within the school’s community;
approving the annual budget & monitoring expenditure;
develop, review & update school policies;
raise funds for school-related purposes;
maintain the schools grounds and facilities;
& much more.
The 2019 Footy Season is approaching quickly. Heather Adderly, Tracey Opie and I are organising and running our Footy Tipping

competition. See attached information for further details and an entry form to return to school. The K.C.P.S. Footy
Tipping Competition has been a long standing tradition at our school and creates a lot of talk throughout the season. Join in the fun! I apologise for an error in the K.C.P.S. 2019 Key Dates. Easter is actually Friday 19th April to Monday 22nd April. The rest of the dates are correct.
At the upcoming East Goulburn Primary School Sports Association's Athletics Carnival, we have been offered the
opportunity to run the Canteen as well as our other commitments. I have accepted this offer as it has been quite profitable for us in the past. In order to successfully run this we need a lot of helpers. We will have a limited menu to make it easier to manage and I am going to organise it like a Bunnings BBQ. I envisage that we will need 1o helpers on the canteen alone. I have attached a Canteen Helpers Form to this newsletter. Every year Bovine Inseminations send us a $150 sponsorship as ongoing support to our school. This commitment from Bovine started in 1999 and benefits 35 schools in our area. This money will
go towards an upcoming project I have for our Junior School Council. I would like to acknowledge the ongoing kind generosity of Bovine Inseminations.

The Important Stuff
How to Enter:
Obtain the draw for the week, there will be one attached to the newsletter or if you need more than one let Mrs. Opie know – she’s in charge of extras tipping sheets.
Circle who you think will win.
Think of a code name if you wish.
The first time you use a code name please put your name on the sheet as well.
Return your entry (with winners marked) to the school.
The Rules:
1. Every entry must have a name on it. Don’t forget you can use your ‘code’ names but make sure that Bomber 10 or Mrs. Opie knows who you are!
2. Entries must be received at the school by the date and time specified on the draw for each week and must be paid for.
3. Cost is $1.00 per week with the Total being $23:00. You may pay the full $23:00 up front or pay $10.00 up front and $13.00 by Round 10.
4. Winnings each week are split between those tipsters who pick 9 winners (draws are excluded). If nobody picks 9 winners then the prize pool will jackpot to the next week.
5. The jackpot cannot be claimed on a draw and nobody will receive points for the draw unless you specifically pick it.
6. The prize pool will be determined by the number of entries received each week. The prize pool is determined on a 50%/40%/10% split - 50% of the money goes to the school -40% to those who tip all 9 winners and 10% for the end of season prizes. At the end of the season, the 10% will be distributed as follows: the person who picks most winners for the season receives 50% of the prize pool. Second will receive 30%, third will receive 15%. 5% will go towards getting the wooden spoon trophy engraved. The more people that enter, the larger the return.
7. If you have paid in advance but forget to put your tips in for that week, you will be given the away teams, but if all away teams win you will not be entitled to the jackpot.
8. In the event of a drawn game you will not receive a point unless you pick a draw
9. Where there are rounds of only 6 games you must tip all 6 games correctly in 2 consecutive weeks to be eligible to collect the jackpot.
10. Results of each week and the balance of the prize pool will be published weekly in the newsletter.
Remember, there are no losers in our competition
Everyone is a winner … and not just for their tipping ability!!
Good Tipping Everyone!!
IT’S BACK … K.C.P.S. Footy Tipping Competition 2019
Talking Footy with Bomber 10
Well all you Footy Tipping Fans and non Footy Fans alike, it’s that time of the year again when you can put all your football knowledge together to try and win KCPS now famous Footy Tipping Competition or win our equally famous “Wooden Spoon” which can be just as hard to win. You do not need to know a lot about the footy to do well as sometimes a little bit of knowledge in footy can be a hindrance.
To join our Footy Tipping Competition just pay $23:00 per tipper at the start of the season or you can pay $10:00 upfront and the remaining $13:00 by round 10. It is that simple.
At the end of term 3 the school hosts a Footy Day where the winners are announced. New Tippers are most welcome and all profits go to the school so sign up and join in the fun. The more the merrier!
For all those new to the school and to those who have not joined in before the KCPS Footy Tipping Competition has become a tradition here at Kialla Central Primary School. Our Footy Tipping Competition is a fundraiser for the school and a lot of fun is had along the way.
Bomber 10 looks forward to receiving the children’s colourful footy tipping sheets and any other written comments such as when anyone is going to the footy or any challenge made with” Miss H” when her beloved “Magpies” are beaten by your team. Just beware that you may have to wear her “Magpie” scarf for a week at school if your team looses.
The 2019 Saturday Junior Soccer Season Begins in Term 2 and Kialla West Soccer Club is looking for students who are interested in playing. The offer is open to all Prep to Grade 6 students. However, teams will only be formed if we have sufficient numbers and coaches. Each team requires two officials, a coach and a team manager. The games are played at McEwen Reserve on Saturday morning and the times will depend on the age group.
Please fill in the form and return it to school by Friday 15th March.
If you have any questions please contact Kialla West P.S..
