Introduction

During Al-bairaq activities, we discovered many types of materials in sport balls. We knew the purpose of each one. And depending on it we have designed our own baseball ball, by using some of these materials which will let our ball a good creation.

Activity 1: Exploring Sports Balls Design And MaterialObjective(s):To learn about the difference between the materials and the purpose of each one.

Conclusion(s):Every piece of material has an important purpose.Activity 1: Data RecordingBallMaterialPurposeFootballLeatherProtects the ball from the outsideRubberFor a better rebound

Activity 2:Measuring The Rebound Of Sports Balls

Objective(s):To measure the drop and rebound height of the ball (dropped from a specific height (1 m)).Calculate COR.

Activity 2: What is COR?

Coefficient Of Restitution, which is the amount of the energy that the ball has remained after collision.

Conclusion(s):Balls filled with pressurized air has higher rebound.Activity 2: Data Recording

Activity 3:Investigating Energy Absorption Of Materials

Objective(s): To drop the ball on different surfaces and compare its rebound and COR.

Conclusion(s):Total amount of energy does not change.Hard surfaces absorb similar amount of energy.Activity 3: Data Recording(using baseball ball)

Activity 4:Comparing Rolling Friction On Different Surfaces

Objective(s):To roll the ball from a specific height on three different surfaces. To measure the distance the ball will travel on different surfaces and observe the effect of friction.

It was an amazing experience to be part of Al-bairaq, we have leant a lot of things:

We have learnt to be creative with our ideas, to be independent, work hard like a united team and the most important to be curious about everything around us and how we can create things from nothing. Al-bairaq gave us the opportunity to challenge ourselves no matter what the challenge is, because we have leant if we want to achieve something we have to challenge ourselves and work hard so we can succeed .Conclusion

Many thanks to the partners UNESCO, Qatar National Commission. And the gold sponsors RasGas and the silver sponsor Shell. Without them this wouldnt be possible.A huge thank you to our teachers, school and AL-Bairaq team from Center for Advanced Materials (CAM), Qatar University for supporting us during our journey with a AL-Bairaq.
