Cryptosporidium paroum currently considered the microbial water contaminants of the most resistant to disinfection by chemical disinfectants. In contrast, disinfection methods using ozone and gamma ray were considered effective due to a high disinfection for Pathogenic bacteria without formation of undesired halogenated by-products. This study was performed to investigate the disinfection on Bacillus subtilis spores by ozone and gamma ray. As the results of the experiment, Bacillus subtilis spores almost were not detected at the condition of 120 min exposure by ozone and gamma dose of 2kGy. Besides. regrowth of Bacillus subtilis spores after Ozone and gamma ray were monitored during 4 days. Regrowth of Bacillus subtilis spores after ozone 120min after 3days, and the maximum regrowth of bacillus subtilis spore was 30%. However, disinfection efficiency on Bacillus subtilis spore after gamma ray dose of lkGy approached 98% and regrowth was hardly for 4 days. Abstract

1. 서 론
산업의 발달과 생활수준의 향상 동으로 공공수역에 배출되는 오염물질이 증가하면서, 국지적
으로 상수원의 수질 오염이 심화되어 왔다. 이에 최근 들어 음용수에 인체에 기생하는 병원성 원
생동물 둥이 빈번하게 검출됨에 따라 바이러스나 원생동물인 Cηptosporidium paroum 및 G띠rd,띠
lαnblia cy쐐 의한 사고가 발생되는 상황이므로J) 정수 공정에서 효융적인 처리가 필수적이나 일
반적인 정수처리 방법인 염소 살균은 원생동물을 안정적으로 제거하는데 한계가 있고, 자외선 살
균은 음용수의 장기 보관시 잔류성이 없어 살균 효능이 감소하며 처리된 미생물이 후에 가시광선
을 받아 재활성화를 일으키는 단점이 있다. 현재 하수 처리의 경우 염소대체공정으로 자외선,
ozone 등 다양한 살균공정을 적용하였으나 정수처리의 살균공정으로는 적용하기 힘든 상황이다.
따라서 본 연구에서는 배양과 분석이 용이하고 ozone 및 염소 살균과 같은 소독제에 대한 내성이
큰 Bacillus subtJJis spore를 이용하여 1) ozone과 gamma ray에 대한 살균 효율 실험하였으며,
2) 살균 처리 후 재증식 가능성을 비교하였으며, 3) 향후 염소 소독 대체 소독 공정에 대한 연구
를 목적으로 ozone 및 gamma ray를 이용한 정수 공정의 살균 특성올 평가하였다.

살균처리공정의 평가 미생물은 독일의 DVGW에서 자외선에 대한 민감도가 다른 대장균 및
B. subtilis spore를 권장하며2) 미국 EPA에서는 역시 지표 박테리아로 B. subtilis spore를 사용
할 것올 제시하였기에3) B. subtilis spore(ATCC 6636)를 이용하였다. B. subtiJis spore의 배양
및 정량은 미국 EPA에서 제시한 방법을 따랐으며 생성된 포자의 개수를 파악하기 위해 영양평판
