The rapid ageing of populations is a well-

documented fact and a key policy issue in

the twenty-first century. Europe has one of

the oldest populations in the world. More

often than not, ageing is treated as a source

of concern by governments, which fear that

revenues will be insufficient to meet the

needs of an ageing population.

These people live on their own and are

hardly noticed by the general public.

Because they are so far away. Because

they are not the focus of attention.

But it is precisely our task to pay

attention and help the most vulnerable

in our society. We cannot forget these

women and men.

FOR HEALTHY PEOPLE

Our commitment

The Swiss Red Cross works every day to improve the health of

elderly people who are lonely. It is there for the people in these

poorest regions.

It is committed to helping the elderly in countries in South-Eastern

and Eastern Europe and Central Asia, such as Bosnia-Herzegovina,

Moldova, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. It supports its partner

organisations in setting up non-residential services to provide care

and support to elderly and sick people at home.

We are committed for as long as help is needed.

About the Red Cross Gala

Since 2002, the Red Cross Gala has been held

every other year in Zurich, organized by the

Swiss Red Cross and a volunteer committee.

More than 300 Swiss and international guests

from worlds of Business, Politics and High

Society regularly attend this exclusive Charity

Event to support the work of the Swiss Red

Cross.

Aim

We collect donations through ticket sales, a charity auction

and a tombola, and the proceeds are invested in Swiss Red

Cross programmes for people living in remote regions of the

world.
