Richard A. Tell (Ric), K5UJU, was first licensed as KN5UJU, Novice class in 1959, at the age of 15. He upgraded to General class within the year &, eventually, upgraded to Extra class in 1970. He holds a B.S. degree in physics & an M.S. degree in radiation sciences & has spent most of his professional career in the area of RF hazards. He spent 20 years with the Environmental Protection Agency where he worked as Chief of the Electromagnetics Branch in the Office of Radiation Programs serving as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service assigned to the

EPA. During the past 20 years, he has been involved in his own scientific consulting business that focuses on RF safety issues. He relocated to beautiful Colville, Washington with his wife several years ago after spending 29 years in Las Vegas. 11:00AM Tour of ARRL Headquarters by Life Member Gary, K7OX Room #? While visiting his daughter in New York City during the holidays, he took the train up to Newington & pretty much had the run of the place. The folks were great & he had a personal tour guide who took him everywhere. Dan Henderson, N1ND, is the Regulatory Information Specialist of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the national association for Amateur Radio. He is responsible for providing up-to-date information & handling queries on FCC rules & regulations, antenna restrictions, & related topics. Before accepting the challenging job as RIS, Henderson was the Contest Branch Manager, running the ARRL's contest program for almost eight

years. First licensed in 1971 as WN4YMV, he later held the call signs WN4QQN, WD4HCY & WA4QQN. Henderson became N1ND (proud to be a Notre Dame alumnus) on the first day the vanity call sign program began in 1996. His interests in Amateur Radio include emergency communications, public service, elmering, contesting DXing & education. In 1996, Henderson was given the Cash Gregg Award for Outstanding Contributions to Amateur Radio, presented by the Western Carolina Amateur Radio Society. He's written several published articles on a variety of topics (from Amateur Radio to baseball to political science) & contributed chapters in some of the League's publications. Prior to working at ARRL Headquarters, Henderson was a Political Science Instructor at several colleges & universities, & earlier, a high school teacher & coach. Honors include: Outstanding Teaching Fellow, University of Vermont, 1990; Outstanding Western NC Educator of the Year 1984; Founders Award initial recipient - the WNC High School Model United Nations, 1987. Henderson holds BA degrees in History from

The University of Notre Dame & in Secondary Education from Appalachian State University & a M.A. degree in Political Science from The University of Vermont. Outside of ham radio, Henderson enjoys golf, computers, travel, reading, Notre Dame athletics & being a life-long supporter of 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox!

3:00PM How Do I Get on the Low Bands? Room #? LaMar Ray, WA7LT Currently on his 7th Amateur Radio call sign, LaMar has been designing, building, & using unique antennas since 1948. Most of his activity has been directed at DXing & contesting on the HF bands. 4:30PM Raffle Prize Drawings Announcer's Table, Commons Area GRAND & DOOR PRIZE RAFFLE INFORMATION Name and address, or call sign must be on the front of each ticket to be valid. Any tickets drawn without this information may be discarded at the discretion of the Spokane Hamfest Committee. Grand Prize Raffle: the white tickets are $1 each. The two prizes are each an ICOM IC-706MKIIG HF/VHF mobile radio. You need not be present to win. The winner is responsible for all delivery charges. Door Prize Raffle: the green/white

admission tickets are drawn intermittently during the event to award various prizes. The main door prizes are a Yaesu FT-1802M 50W mobile 2M radio & a Yaesu VX-170 HT 2M 5W radio, plus over $800 in other door prizes. You must be present to win, & proxies are not accepted. The winning ticket numbers will be posted on the chalkboard at the Announcer's Table in the Commons Area for approximately two hours, or as time allows. Kamiak Butte Amateur Repeater Association, KB7ARA, consists of several privately owned linked repeaters. It covers an area from NE Washington to NE Oregon, & from western Montana to central Washington. The KBARA system is also part of the Evergreen Intertie, an interconnected group of repeaters located in western Washington, Oregon, & Northern California. The repeaters' frequencies & locations are as follows: 147.380Mhz on Mica Peak near Spokane, WA; 147.360MHz & 223.90 MHz on Stensgar Mt. near Chewelah, WA; 147.280MHz on Pikes Peak in the Blue Mountains near Walla Walla, WA; 147.020MHz on Lookout Pass on the Idaho-Montana border; 146.740MHz on Kamiak Butte near Pullman, WA; Internet Radio Linking Project (IRLP) Node #3957 in Spokane, WA; Please visit these websites for more information: www.kbara.org & http://groups.yahoo.com/group/evergreenintertie. NW Tri-State A.R.O. was started on February 19, 1972 with the goal of linking the Palouse Empire with the Inland Empire using a VHF repeater. Present members who were at those first organizational meetings are John WA7HWD, Phil WA7HTL, KenW7NGI, Ann WA7ROS & Jim WA7RVV. The club currently owns & maintains two repeaters, 146.22/82 on Moscow Mountain near Moscow, ID & 147.84/24 on Mica Peak near Spokane, WA. All Amateurs are encouraged to participate in the 8 PM check-in each Wednesday evening. The club address is POB 13133, Spokane Valley, WA 99213-3133.

The Spokane DX Association, K7SDX, was formed in early 2002 by three expert hams, K7OX, N5AR, & WA7LT (ex-W9LT). Today, the club is 40 members strong, & has monthly meetings which include presentations on all aspects of DXing & contesting by our local experts, guest visitors, or via CD, DVD & PowerPoint presentations. Recent subjects have included topics such as DXpeditions, HF contesting, creating better antenna systems, HF & VHF/UHF DXing techniques, ham software, tower installation, etc. Visitors are always welcome. Inland Empire VHF Radio Amateurs, WR7VHF, promotes VHF Amateur Radio communications in the 21st century. It provides local repeaters on Chewelah Peak, Krell Hill, in downtown Spokane, & Spokane Valley. The club radio system also has packet nodes & BBS. Activities for club members are held throughout the year, including a picnic & Christmas party. A weekly net is conducted Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m., on the 146.880 repeater, PL 123.0 Hz. Monthly club meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of the month, 6:30PM, except July & August, at Spokane Community College, building 1 (old main). And there's a 2m simplex net at 8:00 pm. on Thursday evenings. New members & visitors are always welcome. The club also has station KE7CDO at the school & can operate on 440 MHz, 2, 6, 10, 15, 20, 40 & 80 meters.
