Needles 4mm Gauge 19sts x 30 rows = 10cm in stst Note Many different yarns could be used, from a 4ply to DK but you want to have the holes in this garment large enough for your head to fit through. If using 4ply, it is probably worth working a sample of the 40 stitch hole, to check that it is large enough. I think the 4 ply I used may be closer to a 5 ply.

Rows 1-10: stst, starting with K row
Row 11: (RS) Purl
Row 12: (WS) Purl
Row 13-22: stst 10 rows, starting with K row
Row 23: (RS) P20, bind off 40, P 10, bind off 40, P 10
Row 24: (WS) P10, *turn work and cast on 40 sts using the cable method and bringing the yarn forward before placing last st onto left hand needle, turn**, p10, rep from * to **, p20
Rows 25-34: stst 10 rows, starting with K row
Row 35: (RS) purl
Row 36: (WS) purl
Rows 37-46: stst 10 rows, starting with K row
Row 47: (RS) P 45, bind off 40, p 35
Row 48: (WS) P 35, Rep from * to **, P 45Repeat the last 48 rows until size required. I knitted 5 full repeats and ended 6th repeat at row 46.
