FALL 2018 INSIDE THIS ISSUE 2017-2018 Annual Report and highlights from the good work YOU are doing! Spirit of Giving NEWSLETTER Pam Fiscus, a retired nurse, did a great thing. She gave five nurses scholarships! “God has blessed me to be able to help,” Pam said. “I got into nursing because, as a young person, I always wanted to care for others.” “I was lucky enough to graduate from IU without debt. I worked to put myself through school and my parents helped. But now, student debt is so high. You read about medical and nursing students with $100,000+ debt. How can they better themselves when they’re so burdened? They’re already making sacrifices, some of them have children…I wanted to make someone’s life easier.” Pam made her gift through the St. Vincent Foundation to grant scholarships to aspiring St. Vincent nurses. “I researched several places and this was the right fit. I could put my gift where I felt it was most needed.” “I know my donation is doing something important,” Pam said. “Meeting the recipients, and reading their letters brought tears to my eyes. It was amazing to see their grateful hearts and to know that I helped make a difference in their lives.” “I hope others will join me in making a gift. It’s a wonderful thing to know that I did something to make their lives a little easier.” To make a gift visit give.stvincent.org “It was amazing to see their grateful hearts and to know that I helped make a difference in their lives.” A gathering of 2018 Nursing Scholarship Recipients.

At the hardest time in a kid’s life you’re giving them something consistent—SCHOOL
P.S. Have you rememberedSt. Vincent in your will? stvincent.planmylegacy.org
The gift that (literally) pays back!
Kids who are admitted to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent can stay on track thanks to you—no matter their school district and no matter their nancial ability.
That’s something special. You should be proud!
Kids staying long-term in the hospital don’t have to worry about trying to catch up later. Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital has a full-time teacher on staff who works with kids who are in the hospital for 3 days or more. This program is fully funded by donations to the St. Vincent Foundation!
“School is a part of the healing process for our patients,” said teacher, Heather Wiselogle. “It’s part of treating the mind, body and spirit.”
YOU have made it possible for children from elementary to high school to stay on track, continue their education and heal mind, body and spirit.
Thank you, kind donors, and The Hoover Family Foundation, Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, Healthcare Initiatives, Inc., and Eric Medlen Memorial Golf Outing for helping kids be kids even as they face the unthinkable!
Deliver hope and care to those who need you most through a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA).
A CGA is a simple agreement in which you give cash or other assets, such as stock, in exchange for a fi xed annual amount—which then pays you (or maybe a family member you choose) for life. Assets that remain after your lifetime go 100% to the mission of St. Vincent.
For more about this and other a planned gifts, contact Steve Holwerda at [email protected] or (317)338-3267.

Donors saved Christina from stomach cancer via a mammogram.YOU are saving lives in unexpected ways through support of mobile mammogram screenings. When she turned 40, Christina knew she needed a mammogram. But, she was a working mom, chasing three beautiful kids at home. “Thank God the St. Vincent Mobile Screening van came to my offi ce,” said Christina.
Donors make mobile screenings possible. You save lives before cancer has a chance to take over!
Christina had breast cancer. Genetic tests also revealed that her breast cancer put her at a high risk for stomach cancer. “I had a screening [for stomach cancer] and thank God—no cancer. But because the gene that caused my breast cancer puts me at a higher risk I will have to have stomach screenings every 3 months for the rest of my life.”
“Without a mobile mammogram—I could be in a later stage of breast cancer AND be ghting stomach cancer,” said Christina. Today her breast cancer is in remission and Christina’s doctors are vigilant to protect her from stomach cancer.
Thank you for being there for patients like Christina! Help is still needed—cancer will not be stopped without YOU!
