I use fine quality charcoal paper along with

good willow and vine charcoal. Fixative is

applied to protect the drawing and all com-

pleted studies are black or white matted to

11” x 14” size.

Good quality actual photographs are best! I

like to borrow several - all returned - to help

me capture the personality of the animal. I

select one to use to create the study how-

ever, the more I have for reference - the

better the portrait. I need one good, clear

photograph showing the eyes...most impor-

tant!

The hallmark of my fine art is to create a

portrait where the subject study alone is the

focal point of the artwork.
