I am appointed as full time Site Resident Engineer on the following DOT Project in JV with Sappi Saiccor: The upgrade of the Sappi Saiccor intersection on main road P197/3 and main road P88 rehabilitation with relocation of services such as Umgeni water lines, Telkom cables and Eskom power lines.

My Responsibilities:

I was integral part of the Structural Engineering Design and Roads Construction team.

I was responsible in executing structural designs on small scale project i.e Fashion Fusion Pinetown, Woolworths, Private properties, Umlazi Shopping Centre on Sibusiso Mdakanye road etc. I was responsible of liaising with Architects and Contractors to discuss project matters and resolve project challenges. I was managing the design and construction processes of the latter projects.

I was part of the structural design and construction team.

Under Structural Design I was responsible for structural detailing for large scale projects i.e Ahmed AlkadiHospital, Midlands Medical Centre, Darby road flats and many small scale projects.

Was to draft a program which details all my deadlines and leave slots for meetings and inspections for these projects worked on.

To produce RC Layout Drawings and submit to Engineer to carryout engineering designs. To take the Engineers Design and produce the rebar detailing for the job, submit for checking and

To carryout steel fixing inspections on these site, levels, Form work etc. To reply to queries from construction sites via emails or producing a drawing detail. Communicating with Architects regarding changes on design.

Under Structural Construction Projects I was appointed to manage two Bridge contracts as Part time Resident Engineer, which were running concurrently on the year 2015

To carry out Site Inspection i.e. Steel fixing, Form work Erection, Setting out, Levels , Concrete finish quality, Assessing Concrete mix quality, slump test, cube test etc.

Compile Monthly progress reports EPWP Compile Quantity Measurements and Payment Certificate Update progress on Construction Drawings and on Program Assessing the Method Statement Application of Colto, SANS and GCC in Compiling Payments, Site instructions and Assessing MS. Diaries Site Activities when on site. Carry out Technical and PLC Meetings. Resolving Technical and Social Issues Arising on Site. Consistent consultation with design Engineer.

I was transferred to our head office to gain design experience. I was working on structural projects.

My responsibilities:

Producing engineering drawings from architectural drawings. (Flats, hospitals, Schools and Houses work RC slabs, beams, staircases, columns, Foundations and retaining walls and steel trusses).

Producing Concrete layouts and drawing out sections where required. Taking structural designs from Engineer and producing rebar detailing or steel detailing and provided

Project: The upgrade of the main road D1357 – Location: Impendle – Client: DOT

The project was from gravel to black top. I was appointed as a Assistance Resident Engineer on site. The scope of work entailed on this project was as follows.(Layer works, Ancillary works, Box Culvert and Pipe Culvert)

My responsibilities:

Site Inspections i.e. setting out, material quality, compaction tests, MOD results, UCS and ITS result, G2 specification and prime specification, C4 layer mix design and Concrete mix design.

I was appointed by DE Consultants to work on site as a training Technician. I worked on the iNzinga Bridge for 6 months. Where my Resident Engineer allocated me to work technically and carryout the following in the process.

5 Site Diary. Steel, Formwork & Concrete Inspections. Review Method Statements and sign off Take minutes of the meeting. Process Weekly and Monthly Minutes of the meeting. Update progress on construction program. Monthly Measurement Sheets. Reporting challenges on site.

To elaborate on working technical, it was whereby I was required to work under the steel fixers for 4 weeks, where I learnt to read structural drawings and steel fixing. I worked under carpenters who are referred to as shutter hands where I learnt the art of setting out, shuttering and scaffolding setting out. I worked under the Foreman for 8 weeks where I learnt the planning, commanding a team, carrying out the tool box talks and updating the H&S and Environmental file, Processing a weekly snag list or construction program, quantifying materials required and compiling a cost report of the month entailing labour salaries, plant and material costs.

Project: The Upgrade of P127 main road – Location: iMpendle - Client: DOT

I was appointed to supervise the grade 1's working on ancillary works i.e Gabion’s, Subsoil drains, V-drains, Guardrails, head walls, manholes, Kerb and Channels, road painting and construction of sidewalks. I was tasked to first comply the construction method statement of all the ancillary works according to the DOT standard detail and SANS. After complying the latter successfully. I was tasked to train the Grade 1 contractors of how to execute the underlying tasks.

My responsibilities:

Ensure setting out carried out by the surveyor is approved and signed off by RE. Carrying out inspections and quantifying work done and materials used.

The project scope is simply from Layer works to black top. The re-alignment of p197/3 from the P88 intersection up to uMkomaas steel Bridge. The contract value is 17 million. The project involves relocation of services such as Telkom line re-routing, Eskom power line re-location and Umgeni water pipe line re- locating. And Ancillary works at large.

The project has two variation orders which have been successfully approved by DOT and Sappi Saiccor.1) The construction of 1,200 x 2 pipe culverts pipe, 25 meters long.2) The re-habilitation of the main road P88.
