Manuel Oppel, Aurora Land Consulting Ltd.

In this session you will learn about tools, statistical analysis, and modeling techniques to organize your abandonment program based on risk in order to maximize liability reduction. Understating historical well failures can help predict project risks based on location, geology, age, technology deployed, and practices by providing estimates of expected failures, required workover frequency, maintenance, repair and decommissioning costs. Knowing which wells might pose the greatest risk and why is benefi cial to operators, technology providers and regulators.

Michelle van der Burgh, CNRL

Area-Based Closure (ABC) is a new industry wide initiative designed to lower closure costs through improved regulatory eff ectiveness and increased operational effi ciency.

This session explores recent Area Based Closure (ABC) pilot program results from two industry operators including the operational effi ciencies achieved from an ABC approach, as well as the learnings they gained. This session also evaluates the importance and impact that data can have on ABC program decision making and how non-conventional decommissioning of low risk wells can save money without sacrifi cing environmental outcomes.
