    WARRANTYThe Anritsu product(s) listed on the title page is (are) warranted against defects in materials andworkma nsh ip for one year from the da te of shipmen t.

    Anritsus obligation covers repairing or replacing products which prove to be defective during thewarranty period. Buyers shall prepay transportation charges for equipment returned to Anritsu forwar ra nt y repairs. Obligat ion is limited to the original pu rchaser . Anr itsu is not liable for consequent ialdamages.

    th e equipm ent . Some or a ll of the following five symbols ma y or m ay n ot be used on a ll

    Anritsu equipment. In addition, th ere ma y be other labels att ached to products t hat ar e not

    shown in th e diagram s in this manu al.

    This indicat es a pr ohibited opera tion. The prohibited operat ion is indicated

    For Safety

    Warning Always refer to the operation manual when working near locations at

    which the alert mark, shown on the left, is attached. If the operation,

    etc., is performed without heeding the advice in the operationmanual, there is a risk of personal injury. In addition, the equipment

    performance may be reduced. Moreover, this alert mark is sometimes

    used with other marks and descriptions indicating other dangers.

    Warning

    When supplying power to this equipment, connect the accessory

    3-pin power cord to a 3-pin grounded power outlet. If a grounded

    3-pin outlet is not available, use a conversion adapter and ground thegreen wire, or connect the frame ground on the rear panel of the

    equipment to ground. If power is supplied without grounding the

    equipment, there is a risk of receiving a severe or fatal electric shock.

    Warning

    This equipment can not be repaired by the operator. Do not attempt to

    remove the equipment covers or to disassemble internal

    components. Only qualified service technicians with a knowledge of

    electrical fire and shock hazards should service this equipment.

    There are high-voltage parts in this equipment presenting a risk of

    severe injury or fatal electric shock to untrained personnel. In

    addition, there is a risk of damage to precision components.

    Caution

    Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) can damage the highly sensitive

    circuits in the instrument. ESD is most likely to occur as test devices

    are being connected to, or disconnected from, the instruments front

    and rear panel ports and connectors. You can protect the instrument

    and test devices by wearing a static-discharge wristband.

    Alternatively, you can ground yourself to discharge any static chargeby touching the outer chassis of the grounded instrument before

    touching the instruments front and rear panel ports and connectors.

    Avoid touching the test port center conductors unless you are

    properly grounded and have eliminated the possibility of static

    discharge.

    Repair of damage that is found to be caused by electrostaticdischarge is not covered under warranty.

    for th e Anritsu Han dheld MS2712E and MS2713E Spectr um Master models. Throughout this

    man ual, the term Spectr um Master will refer t o both models.

    1-8 General Description

    The Spectru m Ma ster MS2712E an d MS2713E a re integrat ed multi-functional t estinstru ment s th at eliminate th e need to car ry and learn m ultiple test sets. The Spectru m

    Mast er can be configur ed to include: 2-port tr an smission m easu rem ent, spectr um an alysis,

    inter ference ana lyzer, cha nn el scan ner , gat ed sweep, CW signa l genera tor, power met er, high

    accur acy power m eter, a nd AM/FM/PM a na lyzer. A GPS receiver can be added t o both th e

    MS2712E and MS2713E Spectr um Ma ster m odels.

    The br ight 8.4" TFT color display pr ovides eas y viewing in a var iety of lightin g cond itions.

    All Spectru m Master m odels ar e equipped with a Li-Ion bat tery delivering more tha n t hree

    hours of battery life.

    The combina tion of a t ouch screen a nd keypad ena bles user s to navigate men us with th e

    touch screen a nd enter num bers with the keypad.The int ern al mem ory is large enough t o store appr oxima tely 2,000 tra ces or set ups.

    Measurement s an d setups can also be stored in a USB flash drive or t ran sferred to a P C using

    th e included U SB cable.

    Mast er S oftwa re Tools (MST), a P C based softwa re pr ogram , can be used t o crea te r eport s,

    view and organize data, an alyze historical dat a, add mar kers a nd limit lines, rename t ra ces

    and tr ace analysis. Please see Ch a pter 8 for a brief overview of Mas ter Softwa re Tools an d th e

    1-10 Preventive Maintenance

    Spectr um Ma ster pr event ive maint enan ce consist s of cleaning th e unit an d inspecting an d

    cleaning th e RF conn ectors on the inst ru men t a nd all accessories. Clean t he Spectru m Mas ter

    with a soft, lint-free cloth dam pened with wa ter or wa ter an d a m ild cleaning solut ion.

    Clean t he RF connectors a nd center pins with a cott on swab da mpened with denat ured

    alcohol. Visua lly inspect t he conn ectors. The fingers of th e N(f) connectors a nd t he pin s of th e

    N(m) conn ectors should be unbroken a nd u niform in appear an ce. If you a re un sur e wheth er

    th e conn ectors ar e unda ma ged, gauge th e conn ectors t o confirm t ha t t he dimensions ar e

    correct.

    Visually inspect t he t est port cable(s). The test port cable should be uniform in a ppear an ce,

    an d not str etched, kinked, dent ed, or broken.

    1-11 Calibration and Verification

    Anr itsu r ecomm ends an an nu al calibrat ion a nd per form an ce verificat ion of th e Spectr umMast er by local Anritsu service cent ers. The Spectru m Ma ster is self-calibrat ing and th ere

    The Spectr um Mast er, like oth er high perform an ce inst ru men ts, is susceptible to electr osta tic

    discha rge ( ESD) dam age. Coaxial cables an d an ten na s often build up a sta tic cha rge, which

    (if allowed to discha rge by conn ectin g directly to th e Spectrum Mast er with out discha rging

    th e stat ic char ge) may damage th e Spectr um Master input circuitry. Spectru m Mast er

    opera tors mu st be awar e of th e poten tial for E SD dam age and t ak e all necessary precaut ions.

    Operat ors sh ould exercise practices out lined within indu str y sta nda rds such as J EDE C-625

    (EIA-625), MIL-HDBK-263, and MI L-STD-1686, which per ta in t o ES D an d ES DS devices,

    equipment , and pr actices. Becau se th ese apply to the Spectru m Ma ster , it is recomm ended

    th at an y stat ic cha rges th at ma y be present be dissipated before conn ecting coaxial cables or

    ant ennas to the Spectr um Master. This may be as simple as tem pora rily att aching a short or

    load device to th e cable or a nt enna prior to at ta ching to the Spectr um Mast er. It is importa nt

    to remember tha t t he operator ma y also carr y a sta tic char ge th at can cause dam age.

    Following the pr actices out lined in th e above sta nda rds will ensur e a sa fe environm ent for

    both personnel a nd equipment.

    1-13 Battery Replacement

    The bat ter y can be replaced without t he u se of tools. The bat ter y compa rt men t is locat ed on

    th e lower left side of th e instr um ent (when you ar e facing the mea sur ement display). To

    remove the bat tery:

    1. Slide th e cat ch toward t he bott om of th e inst ru men t

    2. Pu ll the top of th e door a way from t he un it

    3. Lift out t he bat ter y door.

    4. Remove the batt ery pack from t he instr umen t by grabbing the bat tery lanyard a ndpulling out .

    Replacemen t is t he opposite of rem oval. The ba tt ery key side (slot below the cont acts) should

    be facing the front on t he u nit a nd slide in first .

    Note

    When inserting the battery the battery label should face the back of the instrument

    and the guide slot on the battery should be below the contacts. If the battery door

    does not latch closed, the battery may be inserted incorrectly.

    The batt ery tha t is su pplied with the Spectru m Ma ster may n eed char ging before use. The

    batt ery can be char ged while it is insta lled in the Spectr um Master by using either t he

    AC-DC Adapt er (40-168-R) or t he 12-Volt DC a da pt er (806-141-R), or outs ide th e Spectr um

    Mast er with th e optional Dua l Batt ery Cha rger (2000-1374). Refer t o Battery Symbols

    on p age 2-9for a descript ion of bat ter y symbols.

    The Spectru m Ma ster can be opera ted wh ile in th e soft carr ying case. On t he back of th e case

    is a large storage pouch for accessories and supplies.

    To inst all the inst ru men t int o th e soft carr ying case:

    1. The front p an el of th e cas e is secur ed with h ook-an d-loop fas ten ers . Fully close th e frontpan el of the case. When closed, th e front pan el supports th e sha pe of th e case while you

    are inserting the Spectr um Mast er.

    2. Place th e soft car rying case face down on a sta ble surface, with th e front pan el fully

    closed and la ying flat .

    3. Open t he zippered back of th e case.

    4. Insert the inst rum ent face down into the case, tak e care t hat the connectors a re

    properly situ at ed in th e case t op opening. You m ay find it ea sier to insert th e

    conn ectors first , then pull th e corn ers over t he bottom of the Spectr um Mast er.

    5. Close the back panel an d secur e with th e zipper to secur e the Spectru m Mast er.

    Note

    The soft case has two zippers near the back. The zipper closer to the front of the

    case opens to install and remove the instrument. The zipper closer to the back of

    the case opens an adjustable support panel that can be used to provide support for

    improved stability and air flow while the instrument is in the case. This support

    panel also contains the storage pouch.

    The soft car rying case includes a det achable shoulder st ra p, which can be conn ected t o the

    D-rings of th e cas e.

    1-15 Tilt Bail Stand

    A Tilt Bail is att ached to th e back of th e Spectr um Mast er for deskt op opera tion. The tilt bail

    provides two sett ings of backward tilt for improved sta bility. To deploy th e t ilt bail, pull th e

    bott om of th e tilt bail away from th e back of th e instr um ent . To store th e tilt bail, push th e

    bottom of the bail towards the back of the inst rum ent unt il it a tt aches to the Spectr um

    Master.

    CautionThe soft case has panel openings for the fan inlet and exhaust ports. Do not block

    the air flow through the panels when the unit is operating.

    NoteDo not use the tilt bail while the instrument is in the soft case. The soft case has an

    adjustable support panel in the back zipper.

    This section details th e types of mem ory in t he Spectru m Ma ster , how to delete st ored us er

    files in inter na l memory, an d recomm ended usa ge in a secur e environm ent workplace.

    Spectrum Master Memory Types

    The in str um ent cont ains non-volatile disk-on-a-chip m emory, EEP ROM, and volatile DRAM

    memory. The instru ment is also supplied with a n externa l USB flash drive. The instrum ent

    does not h ave a ha rd disk dr ive or an y oth er t ype of volatile or non-volatile mem ory.

    Disk-On-A-Chip (DOC)

    DOC is used for stora ge of inst ru men t firmwa re, factory calibrat ion inform at ion, us er

    mea sur ement s, setups, and .jpg screen ima ges. User inform at ion st ored on the DOC is erased

    by the ma ster reset process described below.

    EEPROM

    This memory stores t he m odel number, serial num ber, and calibrat ion data for th einstru ment . Also stored h ere ar e the user-set operating para meters such as frequency ran ge.

    During the ma ster r eset process all operating para meter st ored in the EE PROM are set to

    standard factory default values.

    RAM Memory

    This is volatile memory used t o store par am eters needed for t he n orm al operat ion of th e

    instru ment along with curr ent mea surement s. This memory is reset whenever the

    instrument is restarted.

    External USB Flash Drive

    This memory may be selected as t he destina tion for sa ved meas ur ement s an d setups for t heinstr um ent . The user can also copy the cont ent s of th e inter na l disk-on-chip mem ory to th e

    extern al flash m emory for st ora ge or da ta tr an sfer. The exter na l Flash U SB can be

    reform at ted or san itized using softwa re on a PC.

    Refer t o th e Chapter 4, File Management for addit iona l inform at ion on saving a nd copying

    files t o the U SB flash drive.

    Erase All User Files in Internal Memory

    Perform a Mast er Reset:

    1. Turn th e instrum ent on.2. Press the Shift button th en the System (8) button.

    3. Press the System Options submenu key.

    4. Press the Reset key, then th e Master Reset key.

    5. A dialog box will be displayed on t he screen war ning t ha t a ll settings will be ret ur ned t o

    factory defau lt valu es an d a ll user files will be deleted. This deletion is a sta nda rd file

    delete and does not involve overwriting exiting information.

    6. Press the ENTER butt on t o complete the m aster reset.

    7. The instr um ent will reboot a nd t he reset is complete.

    Recommended Usage in a Secure Environment

    Set t he Spectru m Mast er to save files to the external USB F lash drive:

    1. Att ach the extern al Flash drive and tur n th e instr ument on.

    2. Press the Shift button then th e File (7) button.

    3. Press the Save submenu k ey.

    4. Press the Change Save Location submenu key, then select t he USB drive with t he

    rotary knob, Up/Down ar row keys, or t he t ouchscreen.

    5. Press the Set Location submenu key.

    The exter na l USB drive is now th e default locat ion for saving files.

    2-3 Turning On the Spectrum Master

    The Anritsu Spectr um Mast er is capable of appr oxima tely thr ee hours of cont inuous

    operat ion from a fully cha rged, field-rep laceable bat ter y (see Section 1-13 Battery

    Replacement on page 1-6). The Spectr um Mast er can a lso be opera ted from a 12 Vdc sour ce(which will also simult an eously cha rge th e batt ery). This can be achieved with eith er t he

    Anr itsu AC-DC Adapter (Anr itsu par t nu mber 40-168-R) or 12 Vdc Aut omotive Cigaret te

    Light er Adapter (Anr itsu pa rt nu mber 806-141-R). Both items a re included with t he

    Spectr um Mast er (Table 1-3).

    use.

    2-4 Front Panel Overview

    The Spectru m Master menu-driven interface is easy to use and requires litt le training. The

    Spectr um Master u ses a touch screen and keypad for da ta input. The five bott om m enu keys

    and eight submenu keys on t he right side are t ouch screen keys. The menu and submenu keys

    will var y dependin g upon th e selected m ode of operat ion, see Mode Selector Menu

    on page 2-12.

    Nu mer ic keys 1 thr ough 9 ar e dual pur pose, depending upon th e cur rent mode of opera tion.

    The dua l-pur pose keys ar e labeled with a nu mber on the key itself an d th e altern at e fun ction

    is print ed in blue above each of the keys. Use th e blue Shift key to access th e functions pr intedon t he pan el. The Escape key, used for a bort ing dat a en tr y, is t he oval but ton locat ed above

    nu mer ic key 9. The rota ry kn ob, the four ar row keys, an d th e keypad can be used to cha nge

    th e value of an a ctive param eter.

    User-defined short cut s will sta y in memory un til deleted. To delete or m ove a short cut but ton,

    press the Menu key then press a nd h old the sh ort cut for a pproxima tely 3 seconds. The

    Customize Button dialog box will open t o allow a bu tt on to be deleted or m oved. Pr ess Esc to

    exit th e Menu sh ort cut display.

    Help for t he Menu shortcut screen is available by pressing the icon in th e lower-right corn erof th e display.

    Esc Key

    Pr ess this k ey to cancel any setting th at is curr ently being made.

    Enter Key

    Pr ess th is key to finalize data in put or select a h ighlighted item from a list.

    Arrow Keys

    The four ar row keys (ar oun d th e Enter key) are u sed t o scroll up , down, left, or r ight. Th e

    ar row keys can often be used t o cha nge a valu e or t o cha nge a selection from a list. Thisfun ction is similar t o the function of th e rotar y knob. The a rr ow keys ar e also used to move

    markers.

    Number Keypad

    Rotary Knob

    Submenu Touch Screen Keys

    These submen u keys are ar ra nged along the r ight -ha nd edge of th e touch screen. The

    submenu labels chan ge as instr ument measur ement sett ings chan ge. The curr ent submenu

    title is shown at th e top of the subm enu key block.

    Keypad Menu Keys (1 to 9)

    Pr essing the Shift key and th en a n umber key selects t he menu function t hat is printed in

    blue cha ra cter s above the n um ber key. See Figure 2-1 on page 2-2.

    Not all Seconda ry Fu nction Menu s ar e active in various mea sur ement modes. If any one of

    th ese menu s is available in a specific inst ru men t m ode of opera tion, then it can be called from

    the n umber keypad. It m ay also be available from a m ain m enu key or a submenu key.

    The Pr eset Menu (1) and System Menu (8) are described in Chapter 5, System Operations .

    The Sweep Menu (3), Measure Menu (4), Tra ce Menu (5), and Limit Menu (6) vary depending

    on m easurement mode, see th e Measurement Guides listed in Appendix A for information.The F ile Menu (7) is described in Chapter 4, File Management. The Mode Menu (9) isdescribed in Mode Selector Menu on page 2-12.

    USB Interface Type A

    USB Interface Mini-B

    The US B 2.0 Mini-B conn ector can be u sed to conn ect t he Spectru m Ma ster directly to a P C.

    The first time t he Spectru m Ma ster is conn ected t o a P C, the norm al USB device detection by

    th e compu ter opera ting system will take place. The CD-ROM tha t is shipped with t he

    instr um ent cont ains a driver for Windows XP t ha t is inst alled when Mast er Softwa re Tools is

    insta lled. Drivers a re n ot a vailable for ea rlier versions of the Windows opera ting system .

    Dur ing th e driver inst allat ion pr ocess, place th e CD-ROM in th e compu ter drive an d specify

    th at th e inst allation wizar d should sear ch th e CD-ROM for t he driver.

    miniat ur e phone plug such as t hose comm only used with cellular telephones.

    Ext Trigger In

    A TTL signa l th at is applied to th e Exter na l Trigger female BNC input conn ector causes a

    single sweep to occur . In t he Spectru m Ana lyzer mode, it is us ed in zero span, a nd t riggering

    occur s on th e rising edge of the signal. After t he sweep is complete, th e resu ltan t tr ace is

    displayed un til the next t rigger signal ar rives.

    RF In

    50 Type-N female conn ector. Maximum input is +26 dBm a t 50 VDC.

    light ning bolt is displayed (Figure 2-8).

    The green Charge LED flashes when t he batt ery is char ging, and rema ins on st eady when the

    bat ter y is fully cha rged.

    When opera ting from externa l power without a ba tt ery insta lled, the bat ter y symbol is

    rep laced by a r ed plug body (Figure 2-9).

    Numeric Values

    Nu mer ic values ar e cha nged using th e rotar y knob, ar row keys, or t he keypad. Pr essing one

    of the ma in men u keys will display a list of submenu s on the r ight side of the touch screen.

    When t he value on a su bmenu key is displayed in red, it is ready for chan ging. When u singthe r ota ry knob or a rrow keys th e chan ging value is shown on the submenu and in red on th e

    grat icule. When usin g the keypad, the new value is shown in red on t he grat icule an d the

    subm enu chan ges to Un its. Selecting a u nit for t he new value completes t he ent ry.

    Parameter Setting

    Pop-up list boxes or edit boxes ar e used t o pr ovide selection list s an d selection edit ors. Scroll

    th rough a list of items or para met ers with t he ar row keys, the rotar y knob, or t he touch

    screen. These list boxes an d edit boxes frequen tly display a r an ge of possible valu es or limit s

    for possible values.

    Finalize the input by pressing th e Enter key. At a ny tim e before finalizing th e input , press t he

    escape (Esc) key to abort t he change an d ret ain t he previously existing sett ing.

    Some para met ers (such as for a nt enna s or couplers) can be added to list boxes by crea ting

    them and import ing them using Master Softwar e Tools.

    Text Entry

    When ent ering text, as when sa ving a mea sur ement , the touch screen keyboar d is displayed

    (Figure 2-10). Cha ra cter s ar e enter ed directly with th e touch screen keyboar d. The keypad

    can be used for n um eric ent ry. The left a nd r ight ar row keys will scroll th e cur sor t hr ough t he

    filename. See Save Menu on page 4-8 for additional inform at ion.

    Set the Amplitude

    Press the Amplitude main menu key to display the Amplitude menu .

    Set Amplitude Reference Level and Scale

    1. Press the Reference Level submenu k ey and use th e arr ow keys, rota ry knob, or t hekeypad t o cha nge th e reference level. Press Enter to set t he r eference level value.

    2. Press the Scale submenu key and use t he ar row keys, rotar y knob, or t he keypad toenter t he desired scale. Pr ess Enter to set th e scale value.

    Set Amplitude Range and Scale

    1. Press the Auto Atten subm enu k ey to set a n optimal r eference level based on the

    measur ed signal.

    2. Press the Scale submenu key.

    3. En ter t he desired scale units by using the keypad, the ar row keys, or th e rotar y knob.Press Enter to set. The y-axis scale is au tomat ically renu mbered.

    Power Offset Set Up for Compensating External Loss

    To obta in accur at e result s, compen sat e for a ny extern al at ten ua tion by using power offset.

    The power offset compen sat ion factor is in dB (extern al a tt enu at ion can be crea ted by using

    an extern al cable or a n externa l high power a tt enuat or).

    From the Amplitude menu, press the RL Offset submenu key and u se the keypad, the ar row

    keys, or t he r ota ry kn ob to enter t he desired offset value. When u sing th e rotar y knob, th e

    value chan ges in increm ent s of 0.1 dB. Using th e Left/Right ar row keys cha nges th e value in10% increment s of th e value shown on th e Scale submenu key. When u sing the Up/Down

    arr ow keys, the value chan ges in t he increment sh own on t he Scale submen u key. When

    using the keypad, ent er th e new value th en press Enter or th e dB submenu k ey to set t he

    value. The power offset is displayed in th e instr um ent set tings su mm ar y column on t he left

    side of th e measu rem ent display.

    Set the Span

    1. Press the Span ma in menu key or th e Freq ma in m enu key followed by the

    Span submenu k ey.

    2. To select full span , press t he Full Span subm enu key. Selecting full span overr ides anypreviously set Sta rt an d Stop frequen cies.

    3. For a single frequency measur ement, press t he Zero Span submenu key.

    Note

    To quickly move the span value up or down, press the Span Up 1-2-5 or Span

    Down 1-2-5 submenu keys These keys facilitate a zoom-in, zoom-out feature in a

    1-2-5 sequence.

    Single Limit Line

    Press the Limit menu key to display th e Limit m enu.

    Upper or Lower.

    2. Activat e th e selected limit line by pressing th e On Off submenu k ey so tha t On isunderlined.

    3. Press the Limit Move submen u key to display the Limit Move menu . Press t he first

    Move Limit submen u key and u se the a rr ows keys, rotar y knob, or keypad t o cha nge the

    Segmented Limit Lines

    The following procedur e crea tes limit lines for a Retur n Loss Measur ement . Limits ar e set t o12 dB between 1000 MHz an d 1400 MHz and to 15 dB between 1600 MHz and 2000 MHz.

    1. Press the Limit (Upper / Lower) subm enu k ey to select t he desired limit line, Upper or

    Lower.

    2. Activat e th e selected limit line by pressing th e On Off submenu k ey so tha t On is

    underlined.

    3. Press the Limit Move subm enu k ey to display the Limit Move menu .

    Create a Sample Segmented Limit Line

    4. Press the Move Limit submenu key and u se the nu mber keys to enter a limit value of

    12 dB. The limit value can also be moved by using th e arr ow keys or t he rota ry knob.Press the Back submenu key to retu rn t o the Limit menu.

    5. Press the Limit Edit submenu key to display the Edit menu .

    6. Press the Add Point submenu k ey.

    7. Press the Frequency submenu key and enter 1400 MHz.

    9. Press the Frequency submenu key and enter 1600 MHz.

    1. Press the Marker 1 2 3 4 5 6 submenu key and select t he desired delta m ark er. The

    Chapter 4 File Management

    4-1 Introduction

    This chapt er will review the file mana gement featur es of the Spectr um Master and detail the

    File men u. The su bmenu s un der t his men u a llow th e user t o save, recall, copy, an d delete files

    in inter na l memory or an exter na l USB flash dr ive.

    4-2 Managing Files

    Press the Shift key then th e File (7) key on t he n um eric keypad t o list t he File men u. Follow

    th e additional st eps below.

    Save Files

    Set the Save Location

    Press the Save submenu key then t he Change Save Location an d select th e locat ion to save

    files. You can save files to the inter na l mem ory or t o an externa l USB flash drive. You can

    also crea te new folders. If an extern al U SB flash drive is conn ected or disconn ected, pr ess

    Refresh Directories to upda te t he locat ion t ree. Press t he Set Location key to store t he sa ve

    location.Save Measurement As

    Th e Save Measurement As key is used t o quickly save mea sur ement s with a specific file

    nam e. The Spectr um Mast er saves the measurement with t he latest file name th at was u sed

    to save a measur ement an d with a num ber tha t is automat ically increment ed and appended

    to the end of th e file nam e. For inst ance, if th e last m easurement was saved with the n am e

    ACPR, Save Measurement As saves th e next m easu rem ent as ACPR_#1, ACPR_#2, etc. The

    file na me used can be cha nged using th e Save dialog box (Figure 4-1).

    Save a Measurement

    Press the Save Measurement key and ent er th e nam e for t he mea sur ement file. The file typewill defau lt to measu rem ent a nd th e appropriat e exten sion will be added based on t he cur ren t

    measur ement mode.

    Save a Setup

    Press the Save subm enu key, type a n am e for t he set up file, confirm t ha t t he file type is Setup

    using the Change Type key or t he touchscreen a nd pr ess Enter to save.

    Create a Menu Shortcut for a Setup file

    Press the Recall submen u k ey to display saved setu p files. Locat e th e setu p file to short cut

    an d th en pr ess an d hold on t he file na me for a few seconds. Select a locat ion in th e shortcut

    grid to save th e setu p file.

    Note When navigating through the File menu, pressing the Esc key will return to theprevious menu.

    Save a Measurement Screen as JPEG

    Press the Save subm enu k ey, type a na me for t he J PE G file, confirm t ha t t he file type is Jpeg,

    and press Enter to save.

    Save Dialog Box

    The save d ialog box (Figure 4-1) is used to store files on t he int erna l memory or a n extern al

    flash drive. The file type, file nam e, and s ave locat ion a re set at th is display. See Sa ve Menu

    on pa ge 4-8 and Save Location Menu on page 4-8 for details.

    Quick Name Keys

    Quick N am e keys below t he k eyboar d in Figure 4-1 allow user s t o ent er qu ick n am es for

    frequen tly used file mea sur ement na mes. To edit th e keys, press the Shift key, then th e

    File (7) key. Pr ess Save then the Change Quick Name key, select one of th e Quick Na mes forediting, press Enter and ent er th e new name for t he key. Press Enter again and t he new name

    will be displayed on t he k ey.

    Recall Files

    The recall men u ena bles you to view all the Measu rem ent a nd Setu p files in the int ern al

    mem ory an d exter na l USB flash dr ive.

    You can s ort t he r ecall men u by na me, dat e, or t ype. You can also select t o view only

    mea sur ement files or set up files by pressing File Type on th e Recall dia log box an d selecting

    th e file type you wa nt to view.

    Recall a Measurement

    From the File menu, press the Recall Measurement submenu key, select t he measu rement

    with t he touchscreen, rotar y knob or t he Up/Down arr ow keys an d press Enter.

    Recall a Setup

    Press the Recall subm enu k ey. Confirm th at th e file type is Setup or All. Select t he setup file(.stp) with th e touchscreen, rotar y knob or t he Up/Down arr ow keys an d press Enter.

    Copying Files

    The st eps below deta il copying a file from int ern al m emory to an extern al flash dr ive. Select

    th e files to copy in t he t op window and t he locat ion for th e files to be copied to in t he bott om

    window (Figure 4-3). Refer to the Copy Menu on page 4-11 for additional inform at ion.

    1. Inser t a U SB drive into eith er USB Type A port of th e Spectr um Ma ster .

    2. From the File main menu , press the Copy subm enu k ey. The Copy submenu an d Copy

    dialog box ar e displa yed.

    3. Select th e file(s) to copy. To select mu ltiple files, highlight t he first th en pr ess t he Selector De-Select key to keep t he file selected. The file will be out lined in blu e. Repeat wit h

    all t he files to copy. To display files in a folder, select th e folder an d pr ess t he Enter key.

    4. Press the Scroll subm enu k ey an d highlight th e USB drive in t he lower window using

    the touch screen or th e Up/Down ar row keys. The Scroll submen u key toggles between

    Src (top window) an d Dst (bottom window).

    5. Press the Copy key to copy th e files to th e flash dr ive.

    Deleting Files

    Delete a Selected File or Files

    Press the Delete subm enu key. Highlight th e file to be deleted with th e touchscreen or th e

    Up/Down ar row keys. Pr ess the Select or De-Select key. The file will be outlined in blue wh en

    selected. Pr ess th e Delete key and Enter to delete t he selected file.

    Delete Dialog Box

    Press the Delete submenu key to open th e Delete dia log box (Figure 4-4). The subm enu s a llow

    sorting by file type, nam e and saved date. See th e Delete Menu on page 4-12 for additional

    information.

    Key Sequence: File

    Save Measurement As: This key will save the current setup with a user

    defined file name. The default file name is changed using the Save

    submenu. To change the default file name, type in a new file with the touch

    screen keyboard and press Enter. After a few seconds the screen with returnto File menu. Press the Save Measurement As key again and the new file

    name will be used. Measurement files names have a .spa extension.

    Save Measurement: Press this submenu key to display the Save Menu

    on page 4-8 and the touch screen keyboard. Measurements can be saved to

    internal memory or to a USB flash drive. The Spectrum Master is shipped

    with an Anritsu-approved USB flash drive for external data storage. The

    saved measurement can be named by using touch screen keyboard. By

    default, measurements are saved in a directory named /user to internal

    memory. The save destination is set with the Save Location Menuon page 4-8.

    Save: Press this submenu key to display the Save Menu on page 4-8 and

    the touch screen keyboard. Measurements can be saved to internal memory

    or to a USB flash drive. The Spectrum Master is shipped with anAnritsu-approved USB flash drive for external data storage. The saved setup,

    measurement or JPEG file can be named by using touch screen keyboard.

    By default, measurements are saved in a directory named /user to internal

    Save on Event (Spectrum Analyzer mode only): Press this submenu key todisplay the Save On Event Menu on page 4-9.

    Recall: Press this submenu key to display the Recall Menu on page 4-10.

    This menu is for recalling measurement or setup data from internal memory

    or a USB flash drive.

    Copy: Press this submenu key to display the Copy Menu on page 4-11.

    This submenu is for copying files or folders from internal memory or a USBflash drive.

    Delete: Press this submenu key to display the Delete Menu on page 4-12

    and a selection box that shows the setup and measurement names, the type

    and the date and time that the information was saved. Use the rotary knob or

    the Up/Down arrow keys to highlight the file that is to be deleted and press

    the Delete submenu key, then Enter. Press the Esc key to cancel the

    operation. Note that deleted files can not be recovered.

    Change Quick Name: Press this submenu key to change the Quick Names

    at the bottom of the touch screen keyboard (Figure 4-1). Select the Quick

    Name to edit and press Enter. Type the new Quick Name and press Enteragain. The new Quick Name will display on the button below the keyboard.

    Change Save Location: Press this submenu key to open the

    Save Location Menu.

    Change Type: Press this submenu key to select what type of file is saved.The options are the Measurement, Setup, or JPG. The file type can be

    changed with the Up/Down keys, the rotary knob, or the touch screen.

    Setup (.stp): Setup files contain basic instrument information,

    measurement mode setup details, measurement marker data, and

    limit data.Measurement: Measurement files contain all of the information in the

    setup files and the measurement data.

    JPG (.jpg): JPG files contain a screen capture of the display.

    Limit Lines (.lim): The Limit line file contains limit line data details.

    This menu and dialog box is used to create folders and select where the

    Spectrum Master will save the current file. Select folders or drives with the

    Up/Down keys, the rotary knob or the touch screen.

    Note: Only folders (not files) are visible in the Save Location dialog box. To

    view files, use the Recall Menu on page 4-10.

    Sort By: Press this submenu key to sort the folders by Name, Type, or Date.

    Sort Order: Displays the folder names in ascending or descending order.

    Create Folder: This key will create a new folder in the highlighted locationor folder. The create directory dialog box will display for naming the folder.

    Set Location: This key will set the current location for saving files and returnto the Save Menu on page 4-8.

    Refresh Directories: Press this key to update the display.

    In Spectrum Analyzer mode, this menu is used to auto save measurements

    to internal memory after:

    ...Crossing Limit: Toggling this submenu key to On will save the

    measurement to internal memory when the measurement has crossed a

    defined limit line created with the Limit menu.

    ...Sweep Complete: Toggling this submenu key to On will save the

    measurement to internal memory after the current sweep is complete. If

    Save Then Stop is toggled Off, a measurement will be saved after every

    sweep.

    Save Then Stop: Set this key to On to stop the sweep after a

    measurement is saved. With this key Off and Sweep Complete On a

    measurement is saved after every sweep.

    Clear All: Pressing this key will turn Off the three save on event keys:
