1. General

1.1 Background and Introduction

This specification specifies requirements for new Electric operated travelling, Hand operated travelling and Semi Overhead cranes, Electric /Hand operated chain/wire hoist and Jib cranes. The requirements are in line with international standards and DEPs.

1.2 Purpose

This specification defines the minimum requirements for design, engineering,

documentation, manufacture, supply including spare parts, inspection and testing, and

commissioning supervision of the Overhead Traveling Cranes, Electric/ Hand operated

Hoists and Jib cranes to be supplied to Company projects and workshops.

1.3 Definitions & Abbreviations

1.3.1 Definitions

EOT (Electric Operated Traveling):

EOT crane is one of the most common types of overhead crane, or called bridge cranes,

which consist of parallel runways with a traveling bridge spanning the gap, operated

electrically.

HOT (Hand Operated Traveling):

HOT crane is one of the most common types of overhead crane, or called bridge

cranes, which consist of parallel runways with a traveling bridge spanning the gap,

operated manually.

Monorails are overhead beams for lifting with the supported by trolley and chain blocks.

Semi Overhead traveling cranes are a combination of electric hoist and parallel runways

with a traveling bridge spanning the gap, operated manually for travelling and

traversing motion.

Jib cranes are crane operating in a fixed position, equipped with a slewing jib and lifting

device(s).

Contractor The party appointed by Company and responsible

for the Engineering, Procurement and Installation

of material / equipment including site testing.

DEP Design and Engineering Practice; SHELL standard

for subject or item, which is provided by Company

in order to be included in material Requisitions.

TRDS Technical Requisition Data Sheet. The document

which lists all the project procedures,

specifications, datasheets, standards, P&ID and

drawings applicable to the Package and its

associated items.

Package All equipment provided by the supplier

SP-Particular Technical Specification. This document aims to

define a supply of equipment. SP is attached to the

relevant Material Requisition.

Sub- Supplier The party which carries out all or part of the

design, procurement, installation and testing of the

system(s) as specified by the Supplier (or Prime

Supplier).

Supplier (Vendor) The party which is responsible for the detail

design, engineering, fabrication, testing and

preparation for shipment of the package.

2.1 Reference documents

COMPANY specifications to be followed is defined in ITT (invitation to tender).

Latest SP/PR/GU version at the time of award of EP / EPC contract shall to be

followed unless prior approvals obtained.

2.4 Other standards

AWS D 1.1: Structural Welding Code EN ISO 3744: Acoustics. Determination of sound power levels and sound energy

levels of noise sources using sound pressure. IEC 60034: rotating electrical machines and LV motor data sheet.

Alternative Codes, Standards and specifications (for instance BS-EN), provided by

supplier shall be approved by the company.

2.5 Document precedence

Project Specification shall be prepared out of the following references:

a. Company Specifications

b. Shell DEPs

c. International Codes and Standards

Nevertheless, in case inconsistencies or conflicts between requirements of this

Specification, referred specifications, standards, codes, requisition data sheets

identified, SUPPLIER shall seek clarification and obtain COMPANY consent and approval

before implementation / manufacturing through CONTRACTOR. COMPANY decision on

this shall be considered as final irrespective of document precedence above.

CONTRACTOR shall thus seek agreement with COMPANY on any deviations.

2.6 Supplier Standards

Subject to CONTRACTOR / COMPANY approval, SUPPLIER standards may be proposed

for the design of items not covered by this specification.

Note: the relevant sections of the above SP’s/standards to be considered for OH cranes.

3. General Requirements

- Criticality rating for overhead cranes is 3 unless otherwise specified.

- STD MITP’s shall be complied, if there are any deviations, they shall be reviewed

and approved by Company Lifting Authority.

- The main parts including hoist and girders shall be designed, fabricated, assembled

and tested in the Supplier or Company approved vendor’s premises.

- For single girders the maximum factor span to safe working load shall not exceed

120t-m (Span X SWL)





- WPS/PQR/WPQ shall comply to AWS D1.1 / ASME Sec. IX. and shall be reviewed

and approved by welding Technical Authority.

- Cables design and minimum cross sections shall be specified according to cables

Specification BS EN 50288-7:2005 and IEC 60502 part 1 & 2 and voltage drop shall

not exceed ±15%

- No bare conductors are allowed.

- The Crane dimensions shall be specified in accordance with the list provided in the

Technical requisition data sheet.

- For Crane duty selection guideline refer to ISO 4301-5 Table-1.

- For cranes type selection refer to GU 957.

4. Electric operated, Hand operated, Semi Overhead and Jib cranes

This document, in combination with the applicable industry standards, project

standards, technical specifications and specific Technical requisition datasheets

referenced herein, outlines the requirements for the supply of the Overhead Travelling

Cranes, Jib cranes and Hoists.

All requirements will be outlined specifically for each type of crane in the following

Standard Appendix, vendor shall use the same formats:

4.1 Contractor Scope

The following are part of contractor scope and excluded from supplier scope (unless

specified in the contract scope and agreed with the supplier).

1. Preservation and intermittent inspection of crane parts at site shall be carried out

by the contractor based on the Vendor’s Preservation procedure.

2. Supporting structure, Gantry beams for LT of crane.

3. LT Rail and LT festoon track installation.

4. Monorail beams (for chain block and trolley) (by contractor) as per approved

design drawing.

5. Monorails (by contractor) shall be designed for maximum vertical deflection of

L/500.

6. The contractor shall provide shed walkways, structure fixed platforms, shed

lighting and ladders as necessary. The access shall be for all the parts that

require inspection and maintenance. Minimum width of the Platforms shall be

750mm:

Single girder crane shall be provided with two platforms in diagonal at the end of

long travel, in order to access both end carriage/trucks wheels

Double girder crane shall be provided with a full CT length platform at one end

of the shed (shall not be same side of vendor platform) in addition to vendor

platform.

7. Full length of Long Travel platform in one side as per project specification

(optional).

8. Crane Erection at work site includes connection and wiring of electrical power

between site networks and main disconnect switch and earthing arrangement.

9. Line and level survey of LT rail.

10. EX certification verification and generate verification report at site.

11. Functional test after installation in vendor’s presence, before commencing SAT.

12. SAT planning and arrangement according to approved SAT procedures.

13. Close all punch points related to vendor and contractor raised during the SAT

with vendor coordination.

14. Contractor’s responsibility in completing SAP PM, ESPIR etc. with vendor

coordination.





5. Environment and Safety.

5.1 Climatic data

- Environmental conditions shall be as per project requirement and as detailed in

SP 2200.

5.2 Hazardous area classification

- Hazardous area classification is provided in the individual Datasheets. Refer

Appendix A, B, C & D.

- Protection methods for electrical items shall be carried out in accordance to SP-

1107 and shall fulfill requirements of the relevant part of IEC-60079.

- ATEX Marking shall be carried out in accordance with ATEX 94/9/EC and

Company Approved certification shall be provided.

5.3 Human Factor Engineering (HFE)

The minimum space between the crane maintenance platform grating to the

lowest obstacle and walkway width, ladder width requirements shall be as per DEP

30.00.60.20-Gen.

6. Model Inspection Test Plan

Refer the Appendixes (5-10) for MITP template

7. Prerequisite to use the standard documents

The concept of standard Model Inspection and Test Plan (MITP)/Quality Control Plan

(QCP), Technical requisition data sheet (TRDS), vendor document register list (VDRL)

and PDO STD data sheet for crane LV Motor have been formulated to ensure that it

addresses the minimum requirements of related technical specifications (DEP/SP/ISO),

reduce duplication efforts of all concerned in preparing those document and to minimize

turnaround time in the process of review and approval. The documents, as a result of

standardization and derived from technical specifications, (such as MITP, TRDS,

VDRL...etc.) shall not be construed to identify/ address/ convey any deviations to the

contractual and technical specifications.

The standard document shall be modified to suit the specific purchase order

requirements and shall identify details of the specific items by title, purchase order

number, product form, grade and quantity as per the applicable purchase orders, extent

of inspection stages, etc.





Any specific technical requirements related to a product (s) or to any project or job

order shall be added in standard documents by Supplier/ Contractor.

Users of this standard document is requested not to remove any activity description

that have been addressed in the documents. If the specific activity is not applicable,

please address as not applicable (N/A) in the respective columns. However, it may be

necessary to add more activities based on the requirements.

The vendors are requested to use the standard format attached to this SP such as

MITP, TRDS, VDRL...etc. with no further review required from Company unless any

major changes.
