PROVINCIAL ELECTIONS –COUNTING RESULTS

SANTA CRUZ

• Alicia Kirchner

• Javier Belloni

• Eduardo Costa

The province of Santa Cruz, is governedunder the system of Ley de Lemas (thatgathers votes under a same party). With57.3%, of ballots, the Frente de Todos won theelection over Juntos por el Cambio, establishing the re-election of the currentgovernor, Alicia Kirchner in a districtcharacterized by economic problems andsevere allegations of political corruption.

The primary elections in the City of Buenos Aireshad a participation of almost a 76%, and thevoters seemed to give its approval to the currentMayor Horacio Rodriguez Larreta, who achieveda difference that would bring him closer to aneventual re-election. The victory of Larreta, whowas accompanied by Diego Santilli and thecandidate for Senator for the City MartínLousteau represented the best result obtained byJuntos por el Cambio in these elections. On theother hand, the candidate of the Frente de Todos,Matias Lammens, got a 31.93% of the votes, and inthis way, he managed to break the historicalrecord obtained by Kirchnerism in 2011 withDaniel Filmus, when he reached 27, 4% of thevotes in the City. From the Frente de Todos, thevotes obtained by Lammens are expected toimprove until October so that could even force asecond round with Larreta.

The results of the district were not onlysurprising, but also significant. Therepresentative of the Frente de Todos, AxelKicillof, won the primary election by 52.5% ofballots against the 34.7% obtained by the currentgovernor, María Eugenia Vidal. The ballot cutthat was expected by the ruling party did notperformed as much. Although Vidal obtainedalmost 3 points more than President Macri, thestrength of the Frente de Todos in all categoriesresulted more significant. Juntos por el Cambiolost strong support from the agricultural sectorand also in those districts in which they gotstrong support in 2015, loosing current officialintendancies, such as La Plata, Tres de Febreroor Quilmes, however Juntos por el Cambio keptits hegemony in traditional PRO bastions, suchas Vicente López and San Isidro.

POLITICAL KEYS

The Government had been driving a polarization

process that did not worked out as expected, after

economy management of the last 4 years became

highly relevant.

POLARIZATION

If percentages are kept the same by the October generals, the Frente de

Todos would become the first minority in both

Chambers of the National Congress.

CONGRESS

Electoral surveys are once again on the spot,

after the closest scenario predicted only 7 points of difference and an paired definition for the Buenos
