About our Chapter Bluebonnet Chapter No. 74, is the Austin, TX, chapter of the International Right of Way Association. Our Chapter was found-ed in 1985 by professionals in the right of way field to unite mem-bers for education, to improve service to employers and the pub-lic, and to advance our members within the profession. We are part of Region 2 of the International Association. Our current membership includes professionals involved in a wide array of projects requiring real estate and right of way services.
As I write this, I am still wading through the backlog of work that accumulated while I was away at Winter Forum in New Orleans. Yikes! It was great to see once again Chapter 74 was well represented! There was also a number of our Board that this was their very first Winter Forum. By all accounts everyone got something out of it and had a great time. Being able to attend the Winter Forum event is a great way to have a better understanding of how the organization operates and more importantly an opportunity to make new friends! Next year, Chapter 74 will be hosting the Winter Forum so I am hoping that some of our members will attend and it will inspire them to participate at a higher level! Not to mention enjoy themselves playing host. Daniel Stekol, Vice President – Field Operations and Lisa Harrison the current International Executive Committee President, were on hand to discuss the roll out of a few new initiatives. International has reorganized the various indus-try and discipline committees to help facilitate communica-tion between the various communities as well as to help make them more accessible to the membership body. I would suggest exploring the IRWA website if you get the chance. They have made it easier to navigate and compatible with social media. There are links to Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Instagram and IRWA’s own Fusion member network. It is through the member network that you have access to the various communities. Check it out, lots of new stuff happening. Our very own Teri Morgan will be the 2014-2015 Region 2 Secretary! Congratulations Teri on the next phase! I think I may have to get one of those inspirational calendars again after all. While I have been enjoying February’s scene of lavender field in Provence, it is a little harder to riff on and spin out pithy sayings. So unfortunately, this month will be a little dry. And thankfully short. Stay warm and safe during the next few weeks of winter. Thank you Phil. I promise to be sparking and witty next month! Cheers! Denise L. Skinner, SR/WA Chapter 74 - President

CONGRATULATIONS CHAPTER 74!!!!
Over the past year the IRWA has encouraged the local chapters to promote the IRWA and grow the chapter membership. As we have mentioned in many of our meetings our membership growth this year has been very strong. Because of this growth Chapter 74 has opportunity to award the following Free Memberships through a referral program.
1 Outside IRWA Referral
1 Inside IRWA Referral
For the Outside IRWA Referral we are asking our current members to have an associate from a company that you work with, but know that they are not members of the IRWA, send us a letter requesting the free membership. Tell us a little about the company and why they believe we should give them the free membership. For the Inside IRWA Referral we are asking our members to send us a letter on behalf of yourself or someone you know in the chapter that should get the free membership. We want the letter to explain why this person is the best candidate for the free membership. Please send all referrals to Wade McNeill at [email protected] or feel free to contact him at (512) 619-0270.
Membership News Chapter 74 would like to welcome our new member:
It is great to be the first new member with Chapter 74 of the International Right of Way
Association in 2014. Although I am new to Chapter 74, I have worked with many of you over the past years while I was with Paul Hornsby and Company. I’m starting the New Year in a new
role as Vice President of Allegiant Group, PLLC having 10 years of commercial real estate experience, with the majority of my experience being in right of way. I think the IRWA
organization is a great opportunity for me to meet other area right of way professionals and participate in many social and educational endeavors as well as continuing great long time
business acquaintances. My appraisal experience includes other purposes including lending, litigation, eminent domain and annual rent and profitability analysis, and I have conducted
market analysis and research of various property types including vacant land, subdivisions, multi-family, single and multi-tenant commercial/retail/office buildings, industrial facilities,
self-storage facilities and wind energy leases, as well as other non-residential property types, such as religious facilities. I am a Texas licensed General Appraiser, with an MAI designation
from the Appraisal Institute. I am married with two children, I volunteer as the Treasurer of
the Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas (DSACT), and I am a 1st Degree black belt in the Leadership Program of the American Taekwondo Association (ATA). I look forward to
participating with Chapter 74’s professional offerings in 2014.
Catherine A. Thomas, MAI
Vice President, Allegiant Group, PLLC
