Plus 5 Rigid (car carrier) - GENERAL DESCRIPTION

SUPERSTRUCTURE

The superstructure consists of four pillars with 2 decks positioned longitudinally between them. At the top of the front pillars is a forward projecting hydraulically powered kick-up peak ramp with built in mechanical safety locks and a pneumatically controlled release mechanism.

The first car is loaded onto the peak ramp and kicked-up allowing the carriage of 3 medium to large cars and is designed to give the best possible loading configurations.

The main upper deck is height adjustable at both the front and rear and can be specified with a hydraulically powered kick-up ramp.

The top and bottom deck profiles have been designed to allow the fully loaded vehicle to operate at a lower overall running height after final adjustments to the deck positions have been made.

The design and material used for the top and bottom decks will vary according to the specific use whether for salvage operators or for new and used cars and vans.

DECK LIFTING MECHANISMS

Elavation of the top deck is by means of single stage, double acting rams and heavy duty chains housed within the pillars. The movement of this deck is over the full length and height of the pillars.

REAR LOADING RAMPS

Loading onto the superstructure can be either by the means of 2 standard alloy ramps or a beavertail rear end with a solid one piece loading ramp, especially designed for the loading of disabled vehicles, motorcycles and 3 wheeled vehicles.

HYDRAULIC SYSTEM

A two line high pressure flex hose system is installed throughout which is designed to operate at a pressure of 3,200psi and a flow rate of approximately 25 litres per minute @ 1,000rpm. A pump will be bolted to the manufacturers fitted PTO and a complete hydraulic system installed. The flow of high pressure oil is supplied to a multiple bank of manual control valves conveniently sited on the near side of the superstructure. All functions are protected by an overload pressure release valve via the manual control valve.

Deck locking and support in transit is provided by means of pneumatically retractable pawls meshed with longitudinal rack bars contained within the structure of each pillar. Locking is at approximately 45mm increments.

Operation of the peak kick-ramp is by direct rams housed within the forward pillars. All other kick-up rams are lifted by direct thrusting, double acting hydraulic rams complete with air operated release locking pawls.

ELECTRIC SYSTEM

The superstructure has a 24 volt separate earth return system with mandatory legal lighting provided by LED lamp units (where possible) and reflectors. A night loading light system is also fitted to assist loading in poor visibility.

CAR RETENTION

The superstructure as standard can be fitted with 18 strap type bollards in total; 4 off mounted to the peak kick-up ramp; 8 off on the top deck and 6 off on the bottom deck with all strap terminating in swivel ‘T’ hook type ends. Additional bollard mounting brackets are provided and strategically sited, fitted with blue webbing straps, with the following (standard tie-down equipment):

12 x mobile ratchet bollards, 22 x swivel ’T’ hook straps, 1 off straight Tommy bar, 1 off peak tilt handle and front bumper ladder.

Alternatively if the vehicle is to be used in a salvage operation then a mixture of chains, bollards and mobile ratchets can be specified.

WINCHES - HYDRAULIC or ELECTRICAL

As an option, depending on the operation, a winch can be specified powered either hydraulically or electrically and with or without a power lead. Either choice of winch would be supplied with 23 metres of steel cable and in normal circumstance it would be mounted on the forward cross member of the bottom deck.

SPECTACLE LIFT

As an option, depending on the operation and for the recovery of disabled vehicles only, a spectacle lift can be specified. The standard option has adjustable wheel carriers with bracket mountings to allow the transportation of the widest track vehicles.

PROTECTIVE FINISH and PAINT

At the completion of the fabrication and prior to fitting, the completed superstructure is totally abrasive blasted. It is then electro-statically sprayed with a protective system and two-pack paint (in a single colour of choice), to Akzo Nobel approved standard and is covered by their 60 month warranty.

SAFETY

The upper deck is protected as far as possible by a cranked hand-rail post and wire railing system. It is of paramount importance to always insure that all personnel involved with the loading and unloading of this type of equipment are aware of the potential hazards of falling from raised decks. The railing system provided is only for use when the upper deck is deployed in the loading position and is not intended to provide any measure of protection once the kick-up ramps are elevated or the main upper deck is moved from its drive-on position.

WARRANTY

The superstructure has a 12 month warranty excepting abuse and unreasonable wear and tear.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS (Items of additional cost marked with an *)
