Suzy Holland Leveille manages and directs the interior design

studio at designONE studio, llc. From the very beginning,

her hotel design career has been about creating designs,

building environments and hotel interiors that are focused on

fundamental “Truth”; the act of creating hotels that are as true

today and tomorrow as they will be well into the future. It is her

process of playing on the theatrical aspect of hospitality design

that offers unique solutions and spaces that maintain a relevant

longevity that sustains hospitality’s romantic hold on hotels guests,

especially in today’s global economic climate.

“The designONE team and I chose the “Truths” present

in the classic designs of the golden ages

of automobiles, boats, trains and airplanes.

Enjoy the subtle details and design elements which

have been creatively interpreted.”

Spark is all about the energy that ignites the creative process.

Join us as we explore Planes, Trains and Automobiles. We invite you to tag along.

It is the journal of daring adventures not yet taken and new experiences and

perspectives not yet explored. It is a celebration not just of the things that

stimulate and excite the senses, but of the magical and mystical process

that sets inspirations on a journey and turns them into unbelievable ideas.

In this issue, we explore the spark that allows us to move from one place

to another, be it near or far. Transportation. Because sometimes it is not

about the destination itself, but rather the journey we take that inspires us

to create something luxurious.

Page 4: Spark | Transportation | Volume 9

It is not just the destination it is the journey…

Travel and how we get from one place to another is

important because it fundamentally changes and

transforms us. It also allows us to unwind from the

everyday and reconnect with others and ourselves.

And it can be an adventure all in itself!

For some, there is no better way to feel the sun on your face and the

wind through your hair than by gliding over the calm warm waters on

a boat, or driving down the highway with the convertible top down.

For others, riding the rails in luxury is the choice mode of travel.

The Wright Brothers were the first to develop a sustained, controlled and powered aircraft back in 1903.

Today, technologically-advanced commercial airplanes can seat more than 500 passengers and fly at a

cruising speed of 920 kilometers per hour (570 miles per hour). A Boeing commercial airplane boasts

the longest range in the world, at more than 9,300 nautical miles (14,966 kilometers).

PROPS TABLE Propeller fans transmit power by converting rotational motion into

thrust. This table is inspired by the fan blades and metal used in the

manufacture of airplanes. It’s reminiscent of the plane propellers

as the name implies.

COACH CLASS SOFA This sofa invites you to get comfortable and is anything but coach class. The

soft, brown leather upholstery with flip back pillows add a nostalgic feel,

while the two side pivoting tables—designed with high gloss zebra wood and

polished chrome, add a sophisticated and sleek contrast.

Page 9: Spark | Transportation | Volume 9

There is something refreshingly nostalgic about taking a train. Not only is it one

of the least stressful forms of transportation, it also often offers a vista of dramatic and

spectacular scenery. And, if you are looking for a truly opulent rail trip

unlike anything you will ever experience, look no further than the Orient-Express.

The moment you step onto your gleaming carriage you will know you are in for a luxurious treat.

TUCKER HEADBOARD The headlights and grills on cars inspired the medallion on this headboard. The very

tailored and textured leather and limousine-fabric upholstered headboard creates a

combination of support and gentleness that encourages a long, restful night.

SEDAN LOUNGE This two-tone Sedan Lounge chair features visually distinct and contrasting

materials. The black leather and limousine fabric are deliberately contrasted with

the mahogany-colored leather welts, highly-polished rosewood arm pads and

a polished chrome base.

It can be argued that Karl Benz invented the first modern automobile back in 1886. In 2012, more than

63 million cars were produced worldwide, according to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle

Manufacturers. Today, consumers can not only find those highly sought after vintage cars, but also

automobiles that feature improved fuel efficiency and innovative technology that makes driving safer.

When considering the main difference

between a ship and a boat, the first thing that comes to mind is the size.

Ships are considered to be large ocean vessels—designed specifically for high seas and oceanic areas.

Boats are comparatively smaller in size—and designed for restricted

water areas like rivers and inland waterways.

SAILIN’ CREDENZA Mimicking the look and feel of boat

sails, this striking Sailin’ Credenza

is made from highly-polished, dark,

mahogany wood. The polished chrome ferrules

add a nice contrast and enhance the piece beautifully.

CC BENCH

This sleek and sophisticated CC Bench is simply gorgeous. The gentle curves of the upholstered

back is reminiscent of the sails in boats or the swells of the deep blue ocean, while the dark,

rich mahogany wood reminds us of semi-open pore boat planking.
