• This is a very interesting verb, as you will see. Spanish speakers use it in many expressions where speakers of English use the verb “to be.” You’ll see this a little later.

There are many idiomatic expressions that use the verb tener. One of the most frequently

used is to express age:

Idiom: tener _____ años

Literally: to have _____ years

True Meaning: to be _____ years old
