From club level through to state level and without the assistance of volunteers, meets cannot run smooth and timeously. As you are all aware every club is run purely by volunteers (usually parents/guardians) who give up their valuable time in the interest of not only their own child but other members of the club as well. Sometimes this falls on a small band of volunteers and it becomes difficult to spread themselves across the many duties necessary in the smooth running of a swim club. This is typical of the role of timekeeping whether it is at club level or at competitions. SSPW are allocated lanes according to the amount of swimmers competing at the meet. As we are a fairly large club we usually have a large number of swimmers at any one meet and therefore have to provide a number of timekeepers. It is therefore our obligation to fill those lanes so that the meet can run. As members of the club it is the parents/guardians obligation to be available for this role at every competition their child/children compete at. Our timekeeping officer will make up a roster prior to a competition according to entrants and it will be emailed out to all members prior to the meet. If for some reason a timeslot cannot be fulfilled it is the parents/guardians responsibility to arrange someone else to do it for them. Should you enter your child into a nontargeted meet you are responsible for timekeeping. This will not be the timekeeping officer’s responsibility. Without timekeepers our swimmers cannot swim.

SSPW TIMEKEEPING/VOLUNTEERING
The sport of swimming relies heavily on volunteers during the running of swim meets.
Should you enter your child into a non-‐targeted meet you are responsible for timekeeping. This will not be the timekeeping officer’s responsibility.
Without timekeepers our swimmers cannot swim.

Congratulations to all SSPW Swimmers who competed in the Rottnest Swim Claiming first place in the age category 56+ and 9th in the overall male teams was the team of ‘SSPW 4Life’. They were Jarrett Kang, Kenny Beisheuvel, D’Arcy Wilson and Corey Taylor (past member). Picking up third place in the 56+ Female Teams and 6th in the overall female teams was SSPW Girls. Southside Penrhos Wesley Swimming Club members; Samantha Goh (15), Sophie Drake-‐Brockman (15), Erin Ford (14) and Rachael Harding (15) scored themselves a beach towel memento of the occasion, and a lifetime of memories. Congratulations also to Sophie Yaksich, Georgia Yaksich, Mel Carrara and Brielle Jarrett who swam a time of 5hrs 46mins. The girls placed 1st in the 56+ category & 4th in the overall female teams category, an outstanding effort ladies. Other than Kenny all were first timers and all were very happy with the time they achieved, considering the washing machine conditions. A big shout out to our Vice President Bill McKenzie who completed yet another solo crossing in a time of 7hrs 58mins Congratulations Bill! Also to Graeme and Brad Rothnie who completed the crossing as part of a team – well done guys! Congratulations to each of you and well done to all of your support crews.

A Grade Premiership 2015 Fantastic effort and result as SSPW placed 5th overall in the A Division that includes the top 8 clubs in WA.
This is an excellent achievement by all swimmers, juniors through to seniors and supporters. Overall it was an incredibly successful Swim Meet for the club followed by a lunch enjoyed by all.
Club Purchases AutoCoach With the assistance of a $500 Sporting Equipment Grant, the Club recently purchased the AutoCoach Basic Train and Race for $1221.00 which we are sure many of you will see on pool deck soon. The AutoCoach SmartWatch, LED Display and Speaker are designed to operate as a complete training system. These components can be set up in various configurations to suit individual requirements. There are three main modes used in training: -‐ Interval – used when many swimmers per lane forming queues to take turns. -‐ Pace – from 1 to 9 swimmers per lane with defined target and cycle times. -‐ Race – one on one race for practicing the real thing. SSPW Flags If you were at pennants you will have seen the recently purchased SSPW Flags (x2). We think they look great.
A new email set-‐up for members to keep an eye out for information regarding social events and to use to RSVP [email protected]
SHORT COURSE CALENDAR After a short rest in April, the swim meet season calendar moves from Long Course (LC) to Short Course (SC) through to the end of September. The SC meets are listed on the Swimming WA Calendar and the Club will advise as soon as possible which meets will be targeted by the Coaches. Official LC times can be used for entry into SC events without a time conversion factor.
Notice of SSPW Constitutional Amendment Please be advised that a vote will be cast to approve an updated SSPW Constitution. The SSPW Committee has been working hard over the last couple of seasons to address many old/outdated documents that form the basis of our club. One of these documents, the Constitution of the Southside Penrhos Wesley Swimming Club Inc. has been updated to reflect the club that we have today and be in keeping with the Rules of Incorporated Associations in Western Australia and other sporting club constitutions. The updated constitution will be circulated to all members’ families shortly and a quick meeting to vote on the new constitution will be held during the SSPW Trophy Night as a corum is required to pass any changes. The vote will be held on: Date: Friday 1st May 2015, Place: South Perth Community Hall Time: 6pm
