Program Options

On-Campus

All three degrees offered by Graduate Studies in Management (MBA, MBA-HC, & MSM) are available on-campus. On-campus courses meet in Bethany (OKC Metro), Tulsa, and Del City, Oklahoma.

On-campus groups meet one-night-a-week on either Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Classes are held in the Royce Brown Building, which includes a student lounge, computer lab, and kitchen. GSM on-campus students have access to the SNU campus and its resources.

Students concentrate on one subject at a time, with each 3-credit module (course) spanning 6 weeks. This program is delivered in an accelerated format, with modules strategically sequenced as building blocks, creating a broad base of skills needed for success.

Application and enrollment are available both online or on-campus. Students enroll one time only via Simple Enrollment. All textbooks and materials are delivered direct to the classroom throughout the program.

100% Online MBA and MBA-Health Care are available 100% online. They follow the exact same curriculum, rhythm, and course schedule as their on-campus counterparts, yet never require students to visit a campus or attend a scheduled meeting.

Assignments are provided at the beginning of every week and each student creates his/her academic rhythm, based on personal preference.

A talented faculty of diverse backgrounds deliver the varying courses to the online cohort as it moves through each 6-week module of the program. Actively supported by the SNU Center for Online Learning, students can take advantage of convenient online learning while obtaining the gold-standard education that has become synonymous with an SNU graduate degree.

Application and enrollment are 100% online and are required only one time. All books and course materials are delivered straight to each student’s mailing address in advance of scheduled course start dates.

Master of Business Administration

The Master of Business Administration program equips the student to effectively lead in the rapidly changing marketplace of global business by focusing on the financial and quantitative aspects of management.

The MBA is designed for baccalaureate-degreed professionals who desire to expand their career reach. The strategically designed curriculum, expertly facilitated by our expert faculty, fuses durable tradition with progressive real-time knowledge.

SNU offers the MBA program at our campuses in Bethany, Del City, and Tulsa, OK. On-campus students attend class only one night per week 6:00-10:00 p.m. The MBA program is also available 100% online.

BADM 6123Organizational Communication | 3 hrs

This course examines organizational communication theory and process. Special emphasis is given to common and special problems associated with interpersonal and intergroup communication affecting business decisions and operations.

ECO 5003The Economic Environment | 3 hrs

This course examines economics from a historical perspective. Economic principles are discussed from a management perspective, including production, costs, exchange, distribution and consumption. Students apply economic concepts such as scarcity and opportunity costs, relationship between aggregate supply and demand, profit maximization, foreign trade and banking systems.

MGT 5133Management of Organizational Behavior | 3 hrs

This course deals with behavioral social systems in work organizations. Topics include individual and group behavior, leadership, organization change and development, behavioral research, decision processes and motivation processes.

FIN 5003The Accounting & Finance Environment | 3 hrs

Accounting is the language of business; thus, this course incorporates the principles of accounting and finance to provide a foundational understanding of these areas in preparation for other management courses and success in the business environment. A primary focus of this course is financial statement preparation and analysis.

MKT 5113Marketing Management | 3 hrs

This course is an advanced marketing course that incorporates the techniques and functions of management and marketing as they relate to product, place, price and promotion. Extensive reading, case analysis and marketing plan preparation are used.

MGT 6143Legal Environment of Management | 3 hrs

This course provides the management student with a sound understanding of today’s legal environment. Lectures, reading, group activities and actual case studies are incorporated to assist the student in complying with the appropriate laws governing today’s business environment.

MG6153Human Resource Management & Admin | 3 hrs

The focus of this course is to examine the functional areas of human resource management, including acquisition and placement, job analysis and design, training and development, performance management and rewarding of human resources. Extensive reading, writing, group discussions and case studies are utilized.

MGT 5153Ethics in Management | 3 hrs

This course presents a rational, ethical framework, consistent with Christian values, by which decisions and actions undertaken by business people can be evaluated. Ethics will be examined through case studies, class discussions and position papers related to the students’ experiences.

MGT 6131Management Seminar | 1 hr

This course consists of three elements: 1) a two-night seminar, Entrepreneur-ship, 2) a Portfolio created by the student demonstrating his or her growth from entry to completion of the program, and 3) and exit interview.

ACC 5133Management Accounting | 3 hrs

This course examine the various systems and uses of accounting by managers with emphasis on the management accountant’s role in the planning and control function. The organization of data for decision making and the influence of quantitative techniques on management accounting are the major topics for this course. Prerequisite: ACC 5003 or equivalent undergraduate coursework.

FIN 5113Financial Management | 3 hrs

This course presents an intensive study of the finance function in the corporate world. The financial environment, time-value, capital budgeting, cost of capital, working capital management, debt-equity structure and international finance are examined.

ECON 5113Managerial Economics | 3 hrs

This course applies economic theory to practical business operations and examines how managers can best structure the architecture of their organizations to motivate various constituencies, thereby increasing the overall value of organization. Attention is focused on the management of assets and allocation of capital.

MGT 5123Management Science | 3 hrs

This course explores operations and management science techniques currently used in organizations. Project management, forecasting, inventory models, scheduling and other techniques are included.

MGT 6173Strategic Management | 3 hrs

This is the capstone course for all the Graduate Studies in Management programs. This course integrates the functional business disciplines (Marketing, Accounting, Human Resources, Operations, Economics and Finance) within the strategic management process. A management simulations component is utilized to demonstrate the strategic linkage of these functional areas.

MBA-Health Care Program Description

MBA-Health Care

The Master of Business Administration in Health Care (MBA-HC) program is designed for baccalaureate-degreed business professionals who are currently working for health care organizations or who desire to pursue a career in management in a health care organization and increase their effectiveness as managers and/or professionals. The mission of the program is to equip the MBA-HC student with the skills needed to be successful managers in the health care industry.

The MBA-HC program shares the same DNA as its MBA counterpart; it is professional in nature and is designed to provide a broad educational experience in management. Additionally, the MBA-HC program emphasizes the relationship between management and the functional areas of communication, accounting, economics, finance, marketing, legal issues, and ethics, and how they relate to the health care industry. Students will grow their understanding of progressive and emerging health care trends and develop the skills to lead health care organizations to greater success.

FIN 5123Financial Management in Health Care | 3 hrs

This course focuses on applied financial management concepts for health care organizations. Topics include preparation and analysis of financial statements for health care organizations, staffing, reporting, financial ratios, budgeting and asset acquisition.

ECON 5123Managerial Economics in Health Care | 3 hrs

This course applies economic theory to the health care sector. Demand and supply, elasticity, health insurance regulation, competition and cost effectiveness will be areas of emphasis. Attention is devoted to planning, implementation and operation of health care organization from the perspective of providers, payers and the population.

MGT 6331Leadership in Health Care Seminar | 1 hr

This course consists of three elements: 1) a two-night seminar, Health Care Leadership, which emphasizes working with various stakeholders (employees, councils, boards, volunteers, donors and taxpayers). Strategic issues include alignment of mission, goals and objectives, record systems and building alliances. The effective use of limited resources, conflict resolution and proactive teamwork are also addressed. 2) A Portfolio is created by the student to demonstrate personal and/or professional growth from entry to completion of the program. 3) An Exit Interview

This is the capstone course for the MBA, MBA-Health Care, and MSM programs. This course integrates the functional business disciplines (Marketing, Accounting, Human Resources Management, Operations, Economics, and Finance) within the strategic management process. MSM Program Description

Master of Science, Management

The Master of Science, Management Program is designed for baccalaureate-degreed business professionals whose aspirations are to work primarily in people related management positions (i.e., customer service, human resources, management oversight, etc.). In contrast, the MBA is focused on both the people and financial aspects of management. The MSM consists of 31 credit hours, with 28 of those hours parallel to the MBA program. The MSM program spans 18 months. Strategic Human Resource Management is the capstone course for MSM.

This course provides the management student with a sound understanding of today’s legal environment. Lectures, reading, group activities and actual case studies are incorporated to assist the student in complying with the appropriate laws governing today’s business environment.

MGT 6153Human Resource Management & Admin | 3 hrs

The focus of this course is to examine the functional areas of human resource management, including acquisition and placement, job analysis and design, training and development, performance management and rewarding of human resources. Extensive reading, writing, group discussions and case studies are utilized.

MGT 5153Ethics in Management | 3 hrs

This course presents a rational, ethical framework, consistent with Christian values, by which decisions and actions undertaken by business people can be evaluated. Ethics will be examined through case studies, class discussions and position papers related to the students’ experiences.

MSM Course Descriptions

MGT 6131Management Seminar | 1 hr

This course consists of three elements: 1) a two-night seminar, Entrepreneurship, 2) a Portfolio created by the student demonstrating his or her growth from entry to completion of the program, and 3) and exit interview.

MGT 6163Human Resource Management | 3 hrs

The focus of this module is to promote the alignment of corporate and human resource strategies. Special consideration is given o strategic decisions regarding each of the functional areas of human resource management and the rationale for alignment with corporate strategies. Extensive reading, writing and case analysis enable the student to apply the principles of strategic human resource management.

MGT 6173Strategic Management | 3 hrs

This is the capstone course for all the Graduate Studies in Management programs. This course integrates the functional business disciplines (Marketing, Accounting, Human Resources, Operations, Economics and Finance) within the strategic management process. A management simulations component is utilized to demonstrate the strategic linkage of these functional areas.

PROGRAM and DEGREES

Q: What degree programs are available in the Graduate Studies in Management (GSM) department at SNU?

A: We currently have three areas of study – MBA, MBA in Health Care (MBA-HC), and the Master of Science, Management (MSM) degree.

Q: What is different between MBA, MSM, and MBA-HC?A: MBA – 4 semesters, focus is management,

business, accounting, economics, finance. MBA-HC – same degree as MBA, but courses are structured around Health Care environment. MSM – 3 semesters, focus is HR, management of people and projects, 2 courses/6 hours of HR.

Q: How long are the programs?A: The MBA and MBA-Health Care programs on-

campus span 22 months, covering 4 semesters.  The MSM program lasts 18 months on-campus, covering 3 semesters.  The MBA and MBA-Health Care are also offered online and are 22 months, covering 4 semesters. All students are considered to be full-time graduate students.

Q: Can I earn my degree while working full-time?A: Yes. Our master’s programs are designed for

working adults, with classes held on-site one night a week (Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday), or  online (MBA and MBA-Health Care).

Q: Where are graduate classes held?A: Graduate classes are held on the main campus in

Bethany, at an off-site classroom in Del City or at our satellite campus in Tulsa. The MBA and MBA-Health Care programs are also offered online.

Q: When do the MBA, MBA-Health Care, and/or MSM programs start?

A: Master’s programs have several start times during the calendar year.

Q: What is a cohort?A: A cohort, defined within its academic context, is

a group of classmates starting and continuing a particular degree program together, taking courses in their designed sequential order through completion.

Q: How many students may I expect in a class?A: Classes are small to provide students with individual

attention from the SNU Faculty and to allow optimal opportunities for interaction with classmates. Maximum class size is 22 students.

ADMISSION and APPLICATION

Q: What are the application prerequisites and program requirements for admission?

A: Prerequisite: Applicants must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited university.

Once you have applied online, you will receive a Welcome Email and a phone call within 24 hours. Comprehensive instructions regarding enrollment are provided for you at this time. You can anticipate two steps to complete Simple Enrollment, provided by the GSM Enrollment Team.

First, transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be submitted. International students may use Certificates of Completion.

Second, a current resume must be submitted.

Financial Arrangements, including FAFSA submission, are the responsibility of the applicant/student. You may contact the Professional Studies Financial Aid Office at (405) 491-6316. Registration fee of $185 (non-refundable) is due at Organizational Meeting (on-campus) or at the beginning of Orientation (online). Note: The enrollment process and acceptance letter are finalized before required payment of Registration Fee.

For international students born outside the U.S., other than Canada, the U.K., Australia, or New Zealand, a TOEFL score of 213 on the computer-based exam, 79-80 on the Internet-based exam, or 550 on the paper-based exam is required for admission, or an IELTS bandwidth score of 7.0. The TOEFL exam is waived if the applicant has a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. 

International students who do not meet the minimum TOEFL score must complete additional English training.

ACADEMIC

Q: Is the focus of the programs primarily academic or pragmatic?

A: We believe strongly that you should be able to apply what you are learning in the classroom at your place of work the following day.  Although we explore and apply theory, helping you use what you learn to benefit your employer and advance your career is the ultimate goal. 

Q: Are professors primarily academic faculty or practicing professionals?

A: SNU’s faculty are extensively credentialed in their fields, and most faculty have significant professional experience in their field of expertise.  We believe in and support the value of learned theories, as well as practical application / experience. 

Q: How much time do I need to plan to study outside of class per week?

A: The time spent will vary based on student familiarity with course material and other considerations.

However, our students report an average of between 12 and 15 hours per week for on-campus courses, in addition to class time; students enrolled

in online courses can expect to spend an average of between 16 and 20 hours per week.

Q: What types of assignments can I expect?A: Short written assignments (3-7 pages) relating your

professional experience to the material you are covering in class, problem sets and case studies for quantitative courses, quizzes / exams and presentations.  The assignments vary based on the nature of the course material. 

Q: Am I expected to do group work and meet outside of class times?

A: There are some group projects and assignments, but students are not expected to meet outside of the normal class schedule to complete the group work.  Most group assignments can be accomplished through email, telephone contact, or other electronic tools.

Q: What happens if I have to miss a class?A: Along with the regular assignment, there will be a

make-up assignment that is designed to represent, as much as possible, the content you missed in class.

Q: How do choose between MBA and MSM?A: If you see yourself using financial statements and

working in upper management positions, the MBA

program is strongly suggested. If you are primarily interested in managing people and not in using financial information, the MSM program may be the perfect fit. The decision should be made on the basis of which program will best prepare you for the management role to which you aspire, not program length, cost, or number of credit hours.

Q: How do I choose between MBA and MBA-HC?A: There is no wrong choice. If you choose MBA and

decide to pursue opportunities in the health care industry, you can use previous experience (whether in health care or not) and the MBA to emphasize what you can contribute to the organization. If you pursue MBA-Health Care and decide to pursue opportunities outside the industry, you can de-emphasize the Health Care specialty. Either way, you have an MBA!

Q: Can I get MBA and MSM or both MBA degrees?A: Unfortunately, no. Once a degree is granted, the

State Regents for Higher Education do not allow altering that degree. In order to earn a second master’s degree, 27 unique hours are required. MBA-HC has 19 unique hours, but still falls short of the 27 required. SNU does offer the Health Care Administration Certificate, which is a 13 credit hour

program that is available for both SNU and non-SNU graduate’s of master’s degree programs in business, health care and related fields.

Q: Can I take a break while in the program?A: If a student misses one night of a class, he/she will

have a significant make-up work in addition to the regular weekly assignments. If a student does not complete make-up work, he/she receives one letter grade reduction. If student needs to miss second class, he/she needs the professor and Program Director’s permission to continue in the class. One cannot miss a third class period. A student may take a course out of sequence, but this may impact financial aid.

Q: Do I need to maintain a certain Grade Point Average?A: Yes. An overall GPA of 3.0 is required throughout

duration of program. Higher is better, of course! If your GPA falls below 3.0, you will be put on academic probation and allowed three modules to raise the GPA to or above 3.0. The lowest grade considered passing is a C. Anything lower requires the repeat of the course.
