We all know that feeling of remorse or regret, that feeling of “Could-a, would-a, should-a”, and it definitely
applies to Microsoft Word and PowerPoint! It’s very likely that this will be that class you will reference in the
future, when saying you use what you learned here every day of your life!
Most students will say they know how to use a computer, but very few know how to manipulate text to create
stunningly impressive documents and presentations. Ask yourself:
Can you create a bullet and customize it in a particular shape?
Can you create a hanging indent for those college research papers?
Can you utilize fonts and formats to create a resume that will WOW! a prospective employer or
scholarship reviewer?
And once you have that job, can you create an impactful presentation with speaker’s notes that just might
highlight your skills for that next raise or promotion?
If your answer to any of those bulleted items is in question, then you most certainly will benefit
from Microsoft Word and PowerPoint! Additional benefits of this course:
It carries an option for Honors Credit weight.
Students will have the opportunity to become certified as a Microsoft Office
Specialist in Word and PowerPoint (MOS), an industry credential that is portable
(and looks great on a résumé!)
Students credentialing in all areas may earn an exam exemption AND college credit!
Course Description:
Students will learn the latest version of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to create, enhance,
customize and share documents, presentations, and publications. Digital-based classroom
learning promotes computer skills with an objective mastery performance test from Certiport.
If students pass MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) certification, they earn exam exemption and
potentially articulated college credit. Of course, these credentials enhance college applications
and job resumes.

CTE Course Spotlight - Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
CTE Connection Volume 4, Issue 2
SAHS hosted a Curriculum Fair on February 18 in the Auditorium in conjunction with 8th grade parent night and Junior Parent night. Information flowed as parents and students met with current SAHS students and staff to learn about the many offerings through curricular, extra-curricular and co-curricular opportunities. Students were also able to begin registering for next year’s classes!
