Future Projects Today

•Whole aircraft sizing and optimisation:Straightforward modelling of physics for many design iterations.

Realistic assumptions.Relies on intelligent use of constraints & performance trends.

Technology understanding.Realism through accurate component audit & re-run.

What are Customers’ Needs ?

• Future concept selection will be chosen to fulfill the requirements to be met…………

Range

Payload

Noise

Safety

Operating cost – (Profit for airlines !)

Manufacturing Cost (Profit for us !)

•That means understanding the options available to us, and the challenges

ahead – does the latter infer that particular technologies have to be used,

whether we like it or not ??

Reliable etc etc etc (OI, MMEL)

Cheap to maintain (DMC)

Product Safety

• Less than 15% of all accidents are caused by manufacturer related issues.

• 85% of all incidents due to operational factors, ie flight operations, weather, ATC.

• Closing the gap requires more focus on human factors

• Incident reporting key to improving safety environment

Which is the best selection of concepts and technologies that Airbus should be preparing in order to face all launching assumptions

The focus is to be shifted from Product Strategy

to Capability Development

Some Key Questions

What are the multiple challenges for aircraft & airlines in the next decade

Which aircraft configurations, evolutionary or revolutionary, will offer the opportunities to meet these challenges
