Algebra II Grades: 10 - 12 Required: Yes Prerequisites: Algebra I Length: Full Year Academic: 1 unit Description: Building on their work with linear, quad-ratic, and exponential functions, students extend their repertoire of functions to include polynomial, rational, and radical functions. Students work closely with the expressions that define the functions, and continue to expand and hone their abilities to model situations and to solve equations, including solving quadratic equations over the set of complex num-bers and solving exponential equations using the properties of logarithms.

Advanced Topics and Modeling in Mathematics Grades: 9 - 12 Required: No Prerequisites: Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II Length: Full Year Academic: 1 unit Description: This course builds on Algebra I, Geome-try, and Algebra II to explore mathematical topics and relationships beyond Algebra II. Emphasis will be placed on applying modeling as the process of choos-ing and using appropriate mathematics and statistics to analyze, to better understand, and to improve de-cisions in analyzing empirical situations. Collection and use of student-generated data should be an as-pect of the course. Students will represent and pro-cess their reasoning and conclusions numerically, graphically, symbolically, and verbally. Students will be expected to use technology, including graphing calculators, computers, and data gathering equip-ment throughout the course.

Algebra I Grades: 9 - 12 Required: Yes Prerequisite: Pre-Algebra Length: Full Year Academic: 1 unit Description: The fundamental purpose of this course is to formalize and extend the mathematics that stu-dents learned in the middle grades. Because it is built on the middle grades standards, this is a more ambi-tious version of Algebra I than has generally been offered. The critical areas, called units, deepen and extend understanding of linear and exponential rela-tionships by contrasting them with each other and by applying linear models to data that exhibit a linear trend, and students engage in methods for analyzing, solving, and using quadratic functions.

Geometry Grades: 9 - 12 Required: Yes Prerequisite: Algebra I Length: Full year Academic: 1 unit Description: The fundamental purpose of the course in Geometry is to formalize and extend students’ ge-ometric experiences from the middle grades. Students explore more complex geometric situations and deepen their explanations of geometric relation-ships, moving towards formal mathematical argu-ments. Important differences exist between this Ge-ometry course and the historical approach taken in Geometry classes.
