South Plymouth Grows at RedbrookOur November 30, 2015 meeting
was held in the Meeting House at the real estate development
Redbrook in southwest Plymouth near South Elementary school.
Tom Berkley, Vice President and Project Director for the A. D.
Makepeace Companies, gave us a brief overview of the Redbrook
development, originally called River Run. Eventually there will be
1200 homes built on 400 acres of the development. Some 1300 acres
will be set aside as woodlands and other open space with many
unpaved nature trails and paved hiking trails suitable for cyclists
as well as hikers. A variety of commercial buildings with retail
space will be erected around the village green.
Our primary speaker was the executive director of the YMCA,
Derek Paiva. He announced that the grand opening of the Y will take
place on Saturday, December 12. beginning at 9:30 am. He stated
that there would be a visit by Santa and that Plymouth South High
School Band would perform. He went on to explain that the Y is
already being well used by families in that area of Plymouth, as
well as by families living nearby in East Wareham. The Y provides
programs for people of all ages, preschool programs and
after-school programs for grade schoolers, ‘tweens, and teenagers.
There are tai-chi, yoga, and zumba classes which attract seniors.
The Old Colony YMCA also runs Camp Clark in the summer on Hedges
Pond Road.
After his presentation in the Meetinghouse, he took Club members
on a tour of the facilities and showed off the up-to-date
exercising equipment and the various rooms for group activities. He
also explained that they will be running another fund raising drive
to build the second phase of the plant. This will include a
swimming pool and basketball court. The goal of this campaign will
be $8 million.
After guiding the Club through the new Y building. Derek Paiva
led a few Club members through some of the model homes.
Home buyers will have 10 different floor plans to choose from.
The homes will range in price from about $375,000 to $500,000. They
hope to attract a wide gamut of home buyers: families with

young children, empty nesters and retirees. The first phase
consists of about 30 homes, 11 are already occupied.
GuestsPresident Darin introduced one guest, Mark Russell, a
potential member.
Nancy Richard led the Club in a stirring rendition of Rudolph,
the Red-nosed Reindeer.
Andrew Carter gave the invocation.
President Darin thanked Derek Paiva and Karen Macri of the Old
Colony YMCA for providing the meal.
AnnouncementsPatti Ryan announced that 58 had signed up for the
December 11 Holiday Party, and announced that late deciders can
come if they contact her first and soon.
The Club will provide bell ringers for the Salvation Army
outside Macy’s on December 19. A sign-up sheet was circulated.
Donna Ouellette announced that Dennis Carman would like some
members to help him assemble auction packets on Friday, December 4
at 3 pm at the Plymouth
Chamber of Commerce.
There were no Happy Bucks, Hand Shaker or King of Hearts Drawing
at the meeting to leave more time for the program.
