COMMUNITY SERVICES and INFORMATION

The Duwamish River forms the eastern boundary of South Park and is a key reference point for South Park residents. What was once a meandering river traveling through wetlands and old growth timber was shortened, straightened and deepened as it was turned into an industrial epicenter and was listed as one of the most toxic waste sites in the nation in 2001. Though the river is heavily polluted, South Park residents are taking the river back and trying to restore it to health.

Aiding in the effort is the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition/Technical Advisory Group—a non-profit committed to cleaning up the river to allow Seattle residents to once again crab, fish, and use the river safely and enjoyably while providing a clean home for local wildlife.

THE DUWAMISH the essence of South Park

Duwamish Waterway Park

Enjoy a picnic or BBQ at this popular waterfront park.

South Park Bridge A critical entry point into South Park, the new bridge includes enhanced

pedestrian and bicycle facilities, artwork, and environmentally friendly features such as rain

gardens. Hamm Creek Estuary Hamm Creek was

daylighted to provide a cleaner habitat for salmon, bald eagles,

blue heron, and beavers.

Cecil B Moses Memorial Park Though technically located in Tukwila, the

park offers a short riverside

THE DUWAMISH the essence of South Park

Arte impregna South Park.

ARTS in South Park Art permeates South Park. Take a walk and you'll see the many murals dripping with stories of neighborhood history or

bump into neighbors exploring one of the community's art walks. Art abounds in

South Park!

South Park Art Walks – South Park Arts hosts occasional Art Walks around the neighborhood.

South Park Bridge – Keep an eye out for the new public art as the bridge is constructed.

South Park Bridge Murals – There are murals all over South Park. Wander around and see if you can find them all.

South Park Drainage Project at Marra Farm Horatio Law worked with the Marra Farm staff and interested neighborhood residents to create site-specific art as part of the bio-swale design.
